Talked to Matt at the Thorne Bros booth, Talked to a couple other FM'ers at the Fishpalooza and Artic Armor booths, bought some rope light, coat hooks, and runners for the portable. My buddy who I was with bought the large Frabill flip over for $629. Spent four hours there...was not enough time!!!

Didn't get a chance to talk to him, but I saw Dave Genz and listened to him talk at his booth and I think I saw Gary Roach.

A set of Artic Armour, from Walleye Dan and Shelly. Can't wait to try it out.

An 8" extension for my Strikemaster auger best deal at the show that I found 5.00. And a today's tackle bucket clip.

The guys at the lakemaster booth were very helpful in answering some questions I had on an error I am having trying to transfer my waypoints from my locator in the boat to the contour pro software in my laptop. All in all a great evening to be thinking and talking about ice fishing.

Some sore feet from working the Arctic Armor and Thorne Bros. booths!!!

I actually ended up winning on the scratch-off deals at the Arctic Armor booth. Not the $50k, but a free pair of the Arctic Armor gloves. I'm pumped! Make sure to stop down there and give the scratch-off's a try. Say hello to Greg, Tom, and WalleyeDan when you're down there as well.

The camo suit is sweet in-person. Not to start a firestorm or anything, but at the show, Dan has a limited run of the suits in Mossy Oak breakup for you deer hunters out there. Had I known they existed previously, I'd be heading out tomorrow morning with one on. Make sure and ask for the show special!

Ducked out of the office this afternoon (I work in st. paul) and managed to get the following in just under an hour:

1. Fish Trap X2 with all the accessories

2. Strikemaster Ice-Scentials parka ($50 while they last)

3. Hooded Srikemaster sweatshirt for the wife

4. Tickets to the Wild vs. Blues game

It's a good thing I didn't have more time or I would have had to buy a heck of a lot more than a sweatshirt for the wife to offset all the things I would have bought for myself. grin.gif

Some more jigs to fill the tackle box, even though I've got little room in there to spare!! And a couple of ice dippers to replace the ones that fell down the hole. And some nice heavy gloves from the army guy that should keep the fingers warm on the long 4wheeler rides in from mille lacs in a couple of weeks!!!

Well I booked a stay at Arnesen's between Christmas and New Years and needed another Walleye rod. Figure I would give a TB Walleye Sweetheart Glass rod a try. Of course I needed another Tica reel to go with the rod and a decent Lakewood Ice Pole Caddy to protect it.

Wallet biopsy completed successfully.

1. ifinder Explorer GPS $150 ($50 off)

2. 2007 Lakemaster Chip $79 ($20 off)

3. Marcum Icepac $55 ($5 off)

4. Marcum Camera Compass $8 ($5 off)

No tax on the first 3.

Total Savings: $80 (plus tax on $278 worth of stuff)

Total Spent:$285 (plus $5 parking $7 entry)

Total Budget:$200

Not too bad. Great deals to be had, but you do have to ask for them and probably even have to do some bargaining (I talked the guy down $20 on the GPS and $5 on the Icepac).

PS The parking lot on the North side of the gravel lot is the cheapest. $5 compared to $25 event parking accross the street (gravel lot) and $10 parking by the Science Museum.

Lots of reading material. Theres one guy there every year, in the middle on a corner. He sells Army surplus stuff. I bought a pair of those elbow high choppers. Elk hide, wool inserts... good stuff...

I was very tempted to consider that house that Mora Unclaimed Freight had there. dark blue 6.5 x 12 Ice Castle for $5k.. not a bad deal at all...

WEll picked up a few things. grin.gif Got my Arctic Armor Suit and gloves (Thanks a lot Dan), a ton of ice buster bobbers, a dozen Yad rods for $5 a piece, Nils Jigging Shads, power pro and triple fish florocarbon, tip up bells for Surface Tension wink.gif, Marcum Rod Bag for Poutslayer, Todays Tackle Rod Straps, bobber stops, laker jigs and new liners for my boots for $5.

It was a fun show and I found a lot of good deals. You had to ask of course.

Buy a Arctic Armor suite at the show and get the gloves free while sizes/supplies last. They were going pretty consistent. That new Camo suite is awesome and soft and quiet.

We sold a lot of Nils augers at our booth too.

Over all its always a good show and fun to see all the FMers.

See everyone next year.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
