St Paul Ice Show this weekend

With all of the talk (good or not) about the frenzy, I'm suprised that there isn't more chatter about this weekend's ice show, the Real Deal. I'm going early Sat and hope to get to the same haunts as are always there. Is WalleyeDan going to be there with the Artic Armor? I'd like to have a look at the different offerings and how they all stack up.

McGurk:

I'll be there Fri./Sun., and the folks from Arctic Armor will be there all-weekend for sure. Make sure and stop by the booth, as I believe there'll be some prize drawings smile.gif

I got a chance to look at the Mossy Oak version of the suit and was impressed with the fabric. It appears to be pretty quiet, which is a big deal to anyone looking to pull double-duty with the suit to go hunting!

I talked with him a couple of weeks ago and he will be down there unless things changed. I'll be working the Artic Armor booth as well on Saturday morning until 2pm.

We (Arctic Armor) are very much looking forward to this weekend's show. We will be in Booth #605 and will be passing out "Key To Riches" scratch tickets (While supplies last!). Find the '6' keys in '6' scratches and win $50,000 in Cash! (Yes, every ticket has 6 keys and is a potential $50,000 winner). We are also giving away Arctic Armor suits, Arctic Armor gloves, and $5.00 off coupons if you find 5 keys, 4 keys, etc. Everybody gets a free "Arctic Armor" bumper sticker! If you stop by the booth, and you are wearing any of our products, I will make sure to 'sneak' you an extra ticket (shhhhhh!)

I don't really know of any early ice spots in Eden Prairie since I've only lived down here for a couple of years.

I'm planning on heading back up to where I grew up in the St. Francis area. For early ice I usually go a small back water area off one of the rivers. Its not a large area so it freezes quickly and has some great early ice catch and release pike fishing.

Maybe we can hook up one day. I'd love to learn some of the local lakes but I'm just not sure where to start.

I'm planning on going on Friday. Gonna look for some weeds, some runners for the bottom of the sled, buy my raffle ticket for the Fishapalooza, get one of those scratch tickets for Artic Armor, say hey to the guys at Thorne Bros,...heck, I'll even wear my new IceLeaders hat I ordered online...gonna be a busy afternoon! I've been waiting for this show since summer.

This will be my first Ice Show...and I am PUMPED!!! I am going to be out there Sunday trying to work a couple of deals on a Yukon Fishtrap, some Ice Armour, and I need to have a heart-to-heart with the boys at the Thorne Bros. booth. I tell you what, this cold snap could not have come at a better time for the show!

Looks like I will be able to meet a few more people from the site this weekend. I am coming down with a gaggle of people so it will be busy, if the line for the Ice Fishing Santa isn't too long, I am going to bring my little boy to see him. Is FM going to have a booth set up at the show, and if so, are they going to have any hats or decals available at the show? I would like to get one of those HSO hats everyone was wearing at the walleye get together at Appledoorn's in early October. I will be sure to say hi to those I know and maybe score a good deal on some new toy.

See ya at the show,

Tom

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
