Yawwwn. Hope he makes it thru post-race. smirk.gif

Not sure who was running DEI engines, but the ones running RCR engines had a tough day.

What a horrible race. I was hoping for some better action with this boxy car, but same ol' same ol'. Yawwwn.

Hey Lawdog, how about that "total jerk" Tony Stewart pushing Gordon to the win? I'll give credit where it's due, Gordon made a he// of a move, but I can't imagine how loud you'd be griping if Stewart cut in front of Jeff like that. I sort of agree with some that are saying it was a boring race, but I thought the last few laps were pretty darn exciting.

Oh, and also whats up with what I am hearing that Toyota has something like 85 more horsepower than everyone else. Is there truth to that?

I think what he means is the horsepower peaks at a higher RPM. Like 8500 or 8600, Dodge is also near the same. The Chevrolet is like 7300.

He was in the lead for a 1/3rd of a lap give me a break!!! It's about the same as saying Vicker's only win was at Tally last year and he took 2 guys out to win it!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Better to be lucky than good!!! grin.gif

Would the Toyota teams please wake up and come back to reality please?? They qualified very well.....all the go or go-home drivers did. Why? Because they qualified in qualifying trim, not race trim like everyone else.

That's fine and dandy, but please stop trying to sell it as if they are great teams and they've really accomplished something. Hogwash. They pulled the same garbage at the last restrictor plate race.

The other part that irks me is the announcers try as hard as they can not to call them out on it and let it go on like these teams are ready to go for the win in the race tomorrow.

Good luck with that....

Care to take back your comments?? Looks like that qualifing trim worked pretty good for racing. I think the toyotas were very strong in this race and possibly could have won. Vickers and Mikey were very good. Blaney hung back until the end. I dont think i saw any of the toyota that started up front drop staight to the back? Only Villinueve. You want to make comments about junk....how about those DEI/RCR Engines???

He said going in that he was just going to ride until it mattered and he led the only lap that counts Perch. Some day you should admit how much you are jealous of his superior skills!

With a brand new car that is bigger, more boxy, and definitely one that will push in dirty air, the best they all could do was stay in line. Was easy to see that cars could suck back up too, and for when there was some side by side racing, I thought there was some ability to move forward or go straight back....

Boring for the most part? Yes...it was get in line and stay there for the first 480 miles of the race. Even though I am not a fan of either gordon or JJ, their strategy of "sandbagging" and staying toward the rear for a long time paid off big time. I believe Tony stewart and bobby labonte did that a few years back too. Don't recall if either of them won (I am almost sure tony didn't...don't think he has a tally win yet) but they came out pretty well in the end..

Funny we were seeing some blown tires causing wrecks...not all that common at these big tracks. Usually is someone trying to get by, someone gets pushed, bumped, what have you...

Oh well...

Steve

No reason to take back my comments because they are true. I didn't make any claims of how they would race, my beef was how everyone was making it seem that they found the miracle set-up and are now competitive all of a sudden with the big boys after this "amazing qualifying".....that is the point I was making...not about how they'd run on Sunday. Even Jeff Gordon all but laughed about it on Wind Tunnel last night, essentially saying you could be running garbage and still have a shot to win at a restrictor plate race so Toyota doing well didn't mean much. Get the right draft and be in the right spot at the right time and viola, you won the race. They also said that Talladega wasn't the place to say that Toyota has proven anything, even after a smoke and mirrors qualifying effort, although the Toyota teams and TV announcers would wrongly lead you believe that they have. The sad thing is that many people got sucked into the Waltrip propaganda vacuum and just saw the qualifying lineup and didn't fully understand the numbers behind the results.

Toyota had to be doing something right in the engine package compared to the rest of the field. Just ask the following who were not running toyotas.

#60-Boris Said, 187.423

#10-Scott Riggs, 187.324

#06-Sam Hornish Jr., 187.262

#09-Sterling Marlin, 186.696

#4-Ward Burton, 185.963

#37-Kevin Lepage, 185.765

I am not going to include A.J. Allmindinger because he qualified 9th and didnt make the field which is a joke. You didnt seem to comment on the Chevy engine problems, and the Toyotas running fine all day.

I think the announcers were giving credit that they had a good qualifing effort. Qualifiying for a race that has 8 spots for 14-15 cars is a big deal. Period.

Hello? They were running a qualifying package to make the race....the rest of the field wasn't. That simple. They surely wouldn't have out-performed the rest of the field if you compared apples to apples (everyone running the same qualifying set ups).

We've been over this before when they pulled the same voodoo at the last restrictor plate/impound race and everybody ooh'd and aah'd for no reason.

Put them in the same trim as the rest of the field and they'd be in their usual place at the end of the qualifying day....on a hauler heading back to Charlotte. smirk.gif

Who cares where you start anyway? Its where you finish that pays the points AND the money!!!!

Oh, and where they ended up was ONE Toy in the top 20 and Chevy taking 3 of the top 4 finishing spots! I think us Bowtie guys will take those results any day!

OK, lets try this ONE more time. I do not care how they raced or finished. I wanted to call out their misleading qualifying results and how everyone was so impressed when in all reality it was just a facade. They have not made any more gains on the rest of the manufacturers just based on the qualifying results of this weekend. It just makes me laugh when I was hearing people commenting about how those Toyotas really made a statement this weekend in qualifying. LOL. Gotta look past the numbers boys.

Anyone can win or finish well at Talladega if they put themselves in position to win. There is no handling required and the draft basically pulls you around. Jeff Gordon said last night on Wind Tunnel that Talladega is hardly a benchmark to show that Toyota has improved due to the type of racing it is. He even said to look at them as an example since they fell to the back and came to the front when they wanted to with little trouble.

Toyota is far from being a competitive team on a weekly basis.

OH geez....Tommy Baldwin is on ESPN right now talking about how hard they worked to get the results they needed. Unreal. Way to sell that snake oil! I can't believe that he can even make those statements with a straight face. There is a river in Egypt too... smirk.gif Oh well, the uninformed will keep getting the wool pulled over their eyes until they WANT to accept reality instead of ignoring it. I give up.

Toyota is still a non factor, I expect as most do that they will continue to get better and will be more competitive next year especially with Gibbs going over.

Back to the race. Although the restrictor plate tracks are 80% worthless to watch the endings are always great. You don't have to listen to an announcer saying wow he gained 3/8ths of a second on him that lap he might catch him in 10 laps if he gets caught up in traffic...

This is from foxsports nascar area. Shows that Toyotas engines had nothing to do with performance in the race it was all luck......

It should surprise no one that Dave Blaney, who finished third in the UAW-Ford 500, topped NASCAR's chassis dynamometer test chart at Talladega Sunday night with 461 counts of horsepower. Fifth-place finisher Ryan Newman was second with 455 hp, followed by Carl Edwards (443) and Jimmie Johnson (437). Blaney posted the highest finish for Toyota this season and was one of five Camry's that started sixth or better in the race. Some engine men in attendance were disappointed not to have the No. 00 Camry of David Reutimann on the DynoJet, but NASCAR officials unknowingly removed his restrictor plate before the test...
