Late September

I have to admit I do not spend a whole lot of time paying attention to water temps except in the spring of the year. Late sept is just the start of fall fishing really, and the fish seem to key on any green weeds still avaliable. If no good weeds, then start looking for shorline rock and such. All your normal baits.. Spinnerbiats, rattle traps, jigs, worms ect should all still work fine. I do tend to throw larger baits in the fall as the fish put on the feed bags.

B&S, where where ya? Is that 16lbs in 5 fish? I love throwing jigs as well... When the conditions and area are right but those monster craws are on the spendy side as far as trailers go. I like saber tail grubs or twin tail mr.twisters myself... very similar action but consiterably cheaper.

I use a 5/0 Owner worm hook, I like the thicker gauge of this hook vs a 5/0 Gamakatsu worm hook. It's a personal preference, I think the Owner hooks are easier to extract from the bass vs the thinner diameter Gama's.

Do any of you folks use this lure, or more modern knock-offs? I used to fish a west metro lake with this spinner when the water started to cool down, and the fish moved to shallower, green weed beds.Did real well using this lure with a pork,or plastic trailer on it.Anyone with InFisherman back issues may remember an article they did on this lure a few years back.Guess where I got the idea from? grin.gif

Do you realize that Gamakatsu makes 5/0 thick hooks. I believe they are the Super Line hooks. Probably thicker than those Owner hooks you're talking about.

I was just goin to mention that, yep there called "super line". They are a perfect match with a 10" junebug culprit, and a 3/8oz. rattln' gambler screw-lock weight wink.gif

I think the Bass bite is super right now.

Flukes, Hardnose Toads, Skider Walks and Devils horse. They all cought fish for me today. The last two days surface baits have been the top choice. I had a 36" northern blow out of the water on the Toad today. Fun! My son cought a 20.5" 6.4lb Lm on a fluke friday. I can't wait to get off word tomarrow.

Glad to hear some of you are still finding a good bite, the couple lakes I usually fish have been almost completely shut down the last 2 weeks, hard to even get bit.

Hopefully the water temps have dropped a bit and the action picks up tonight.

I fished Swan 4 times this past summer... Tried nearly every approach A guy could think of. I did catch 3 decent bass and a real nice channel cat. If you ask me I don't think there is huge population there. And the timber is really the only thing that would hold fish other than shallow cattails. No weeds what so ever in the lake and it is intirely a mud and silt bottom. No sand and I saw only a few shallow rocks on shore. Not a lake I'd fish again as it is only a few miles away from lakes with much much better structure and populations.

I think there is a lot more bass in there then you think. When there is league nights out there, there is a lot of bass bought in to the weigh-in scales. That lake gets more pressure than people think. Wood is the dominant structure in that lake, As far as rocks go there is a whole shore line on the east side full of rocks. It seems like the fish in Swan really don’t bight when there are weather changes. There isn’t much deep structure for them to move out to so they are really sensitive to changes. smile.gif

Thats correct bro, this lake does get more pressure then you think. The lake produces monster bass. There are league nights out there that we fish, and the winning bag is close to 20 lbs on 5 fish. Structor is a key to this lake, with no deep water structor on the lake. I have found fish off the deep edge, which intitles the fish to become tight to shore.

Out again last night for a couple hours, still not getting good numbers but right before we left my cousin finally got an explosion on his buzzbait right on the outside edge of some lily pads, Im going to credit the fact that I didnt catch any fish to this fish eating them all, pushing the 7lb mark, dont have exact weight because the scale is not digital, but is accurate(checked).

Made it worth the 2 hours of casting without a bite, of course fish this size are only caught in my boat when we dont have a camera, would have made a great pic.
