You Fellers Must Have Money

You guys and your $200-$500 Vex and Marcums. I bought this the past year and loved it more than the times we took my dads Vex 8 out. That thing was way too confusing, this is alot more simple to use, and at only $50- it works:

Ya I have some money and work hard for it. Well some times.

As far as a Vex or Marcum V.S. what you have in the pic. Im guessing the Flashers will be a much better tool and show much more. Well worth the money to me.

You have to pay to play and I like to play with the best equipment I can.

I am thinking about getting a Marcum next year when I get tax return back, just had to give you guys some heck. I honestly haven't been too impressed with my dads Vex. I really do like that lil Zebco fish finder better.

I don't know what that thing is you have in that picture but I can tell it isn't anything I would use for ice fishing. I think I would rather use a old Lowrance green box. I have tried using LCD graph for on the ice and none compare to the flasher. But that is just my opinion.

Nothin wrong with used stuff either. You can get used augers, flasher, and portables at good discounts. check hsolist, pawn shops, friends for good deals. I got a 4 year old auger last year at a pawn shop that cost me 30-40% of what a new one would. 2 new blades and I was good to go.

I have splurged on everything else- a Clam 5600, a BIG Mr Buddy, a new 4 stroke StrikeLite. Say all you want about that Zebco- she shoots through ice, shows depth, has both video and audio alerts when fish appear, also shows structure, and, well, its so easy to use- a caveman could do it

Gotta be able to drill a hole out there- you know, before you stick your $500 piece of plastic and styrofoam in it tongue.gif

Too bad you have an auger with plastic flights and you have to lay it down special so that the oil doesn't drain into the cylinder grin.gif.

I'd take it everyday and twice on sunday. Beats lugging a 50 lbs Jiffy out. Kinda nice pulling up the pump when I first got it sticking a gas nozzle in, squirting it full and going. Get funny looks when I am on the ice though- people all around are wondering why I am drilling holes soooooo fast- and QUIET

If you like a light lightning fast auger, check out the Nils. She light and great for running and gunning and boy does this auger cut holes fast.

I have not found one problem with this auger to date. I have had auger races with other and have yet to get beat drilling holes.

I'd agree with that statement. I've used a lot of different augers and so far this is the one I'm hanging onto.

That reminds me to pick up a new 8" metal Lazer bit for my dad's Strike-Lite.

Broke half of the plastic flighting off getting it unstuck last March on URL. frown.gif

Hope the oil problem doesn't happen again. frown.gif

Severe disappointment on our part. Sorry.

My Lazer Mag Xpress is still running strong and problem free after 5+ years, Strike-Lite couldn't make it through one season.

I run a lazer 224, sweet auger, but i often thought the ultimate would be the 224 auger and the 4 stroke strike lite motor in the same package! If your staying with strikemaster anyways!

I am one of the many who read all the hype about Nils on this site the past few years. I saved my money and bought 1 last fall. It was all it was hyped up to be, and more. 1 of my buddies thought I was an (Contact Us Please) for spending that much on an auger I had never even seen at a store, but after a weekend on Red, and alot of holes drilled he was convinced.

Nils are fast and furious, however it's fair to say they leave lots of slush in the hole. Great if you have kids fishing, bad if it is -20 and you want to drill quick holes to try out - not the funnest.

They do startup better and you can start drilling much sooner compared to a 224. I wouldn't say it's too much faster in a hole to hole comparison (once the 224 is started and warmed up for 5 minutes they might be close!)

I've punched 20 holes, gone to use the auger again after 10 minutes and it runs like it hasn't been started all month.

go figure, LB

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
