that's right. after catching my fair share of turtles lately, I decided to let my partner catch one. He said he wanted to catch one so I granted his wish. I think that was the last one he'll want to catch grin.gifgrin.gif

Then he did the unspeakable, he caught an **whisper** upgrade.

Beauty of a channel Hanson!

I finished the night with a decent 17lb flat, but I won't steal Chris's turtle thunder.

We got to give the history on this one mate. So people can get a perspective. LOL.

as I mentioned in a previous post. One of my favorite fishing mates has been having unbelievable luck this year with turtles. Hence the name change from DTRO to DTURTLE....This video clip was one of three snapping turtles of the night. Its slightly possible that it may have been caught twice in the same night. If so......... Goes to show how primitive and hungry and stupid and smelly these critters are.

This will be the last time I haul any of more of these into my boat, both for safety and sanitary reasons.

But it does make for a fun night.

Please do not try this unless you have a really long set of hook removers. Mine wasn't

Hard to believe I've been fishing the Minnesota River for 3 years now and I have never caught one of them Softshell Turtles. Guess my luck ran out! LOL!

As for the channel cat, thats my personal best from the MN River so it was pretty exciting. 31" x 18", 11lbs. It hit cut sucker on a circle hook and was really trying to get my rod out of the holder too! I love it when a channel cat freight trains a circle hook rod! Now thats fun!

Nice fish Hanson. The word around the camp fire is channels are going strong down there now. Good buddy of mine got a fairly large one last weekend on Pool 2.

Congrats on PB cool.gif.

Is that your PB (21) in avatar.

Actually... No. The pic in my avatar is 19lbs, but here's the cool part- 31". Thats the fattest 31" I've ever seen. For comparison, that MN River channel cat I just caught was 31" as well but 11lbs.

My 21 is either this guy...

or this guy...

They were both right there. grin.gif

The Bottom one is huge. It kind of looks like the Zumbro State record pic grin.gif LOL. I.E. color of fish, back lite, but at least your not holding it out like a serving dish.

They are both very nice fish. I will have to bring cut sucker down next time I am on the river.

I can see it now. Both fishermen standing on their seats screaming like little girls while the eel slithers around the bottom of the boat sliming everything and trying to nip at the fishermen. Classic!

Joe's net still had a ring of eel slime on it from last fall when we went on the Sturgeon Excursion this spring:o

That would be fun to see....Actually, I should keep quiet...I'm not sure what I would do with one in my boat?

Was fishin with Ed lastnight and the turtles were biting! He caught 3 and instead of leaving the turtle hooked up and in the water while getting his camera he unhooked it and let it go in the boat! Ha they are pretty fast buggers!

Larry, you definitely deserve kudos for your handling of that snapper in the video above. You didn't kill it or have to clip the line or anything. You boated it and unhooked it! You have more guts than I my friend.
