Gotem
Are you allowed to drink adult beverages in MN state parks, particularly Sibley State Park? Noticed something about 'no intoxicating beverages' in the regulations, but was wondering if they actually enforced that. I'm not from MN, so bare with me. sparcebag
Regs. say no but they bypass a lot of it,dont get loud or roudy I think you'll be OK,I have been, Sibley is 12 miles from home
Eric Wettschreck
This park is fun. I like it. No alcohol is allowed in any MN state park. Is it enforced?? ah....no. I drink a lot in state parks. If you arn't loud and annoying everyone is fine. If you're a loud obno drunk then you will deal with ranger Rick.Sibley state park is a GREAT place to camp and hang out. minndonn
Also wise to put a can cooler on the beer so it is not obvious. Some rangers may ask you to put it away if it is obvious.
Gotem
Thanks for the info. Sounds like there shouldn't be a problem.
Ryan_V
also don't bring bottles, if you do, pour it into a cup. that's the only time I've been talked to. even then they just told me to pour it into a cup. not a bad idea anyway, just pour the beverage of your choice in cup and you'll be fine!! jegerjack
We were talking about this a little bit in the discussion about bringing wood into a state park and I went off a little bit about loud mouths... After I calmed down I started to think that drinking and drunkenness is less of a problem than it was 10 or so years ago, thoughts? One thing I noticed the past few years I have seemed to notice more police officers driving through the parks any one else notice this?
sparcebag
Gotem while your in the area you should try out Monson state park about 12-15 miles from Sibley.Least used state park in the state and one of the smaller,We go there to avoid the crowds at Sibley,Good fishin lake, lots a sunnies for the kids off the dock, and I've never been there when more than 4 other campers were there.(if your lookin for a little solice)its the place. IFallsRon
I've seen a deputy car several times at Sibley. I'm guessing that they patrol parks that don't have large staffs, especially since the system isn't funded as well as it was in past years. As said above, those who go about drinking and minding their own business seem not to have any problems. BLACKJACK
They know that if they strictly enforced the rules against alcohol that they'd lose a lot of campers. Less campers mean less $$$ coming in.
PRWoody
This one is a no brainer, keep it out of sight and don't get loud in the evening hours and no one will bother youfor drinking. Good advice about the can-cooler or intoa plastic glass. When I worked in Itasca, got alot of free beer from rowdy campers. Another FYI, if you are drunk, go to bed or stay in yourcampsite. That is one easy way of getting kicked out ofthe park!
Powerstroke
Everyone has given you the right advice. The rules are there to deter the casual partier from using the state park as a party place. They are designed to be family places. You will not be hassled for alcohal unless oyu are creating a problem. I have been asked to "conceil" the bottle also. Kinda of an "outta sight, outta mind" deal. Its like being at a little league game. You can be the guy walking around with the brown paper bag. minndonn
Bottles are a bad idea in any outdoor environment. Broken glass is hard to clean up and can injure ont people wether at a state park beach or softball game. Get either plastic or cans to help protect yourself and others. Scott K
I believe the signs say no public display of alcohol, ( out of sight, out of mind ) as p.s. stated. Its their way of saying no keggers, or big parties. This way if you are roudy, they can kick you out for breaking the rules if they want to.
