Sifty
If the 31 could have gotten to the 5 (in my opion he never got close enough) what do you think would have happen?Burton is a class act and with last year being in the chase do you think he would have given shrub a little bump and run. Or was he thinking big picture? His tires where 70 laps fresher and his car was like a rocket. Also do you think that the 24 held the 31 up helping out his team mate?Sifty
LMITOUT
Just watching the replay now as I was reading this question and the 24 didn't hold up the 31 at all. The 31 went around the outside of the 24 on the restart and got right on the 5's bumper before they got to Turn 1, so that was a non-issue. The 31 was all over his bumper and could have easily taken him out. He was definitely close enough to take him out if he wanted to. In fact, on that restart he got on the outside of the 5 in 1 and 2 and could have swept down and spun him (hook'd him) without a problem. He let off and fit back down between the 5 and 24 and continued on. He got his nose inside a few times later but didn't push him. Like Busch said after the race, if it were anyone else behind him other than Burton he'd been on the wrecker crossing the finish line but that's just the way Burton runs races. I'd have liked to seen Harvick behind the 5 for those last laps.
VMS
Burton even said in his post-race interview that he raced him clean since busch has raced him cleanly.. Jeff B definitely had the car to catch him and win if there were more laps..I give credit to Burton for that. He doesn't want to win by taking out another competitor-he wants to win legitimately. That is a class act...something the Childress camp really needed and it has helped tremendously.Steve
lawdog
I was in Vegas and didn't see the race (other than the multiple trips I made to the room to check the running order and catch a lap here and there), but Jeff Burton isn't giong to wreck anyone to win. He's one of the cleanest racers out there. Good to hear him say that he raced Busch that way since Busch has always raced him clean. Don't ever hear much good about Busch, maybe he's not as bad though as we all think???
harvey lee
Usually you get raced the exact same way that you race. If you take em out then be ready to also get taken out. If anyone other driver would have been leading and not a team mate, Gordon would have taken the leader out just as Sr. would have.
Uncle Bill
Mabey some of you caught shrubs vocabulary at the end of the race.He thanked Burton for his "courteousness"
Jeremy airjer W
His vocab is about as good as our spelling!! I was surprised that Burton didn't give him a little bump just to let him know that he was there and he wanted the win just as bad. I like the fact that a driver can get a fender on a guy on the inside and still back off in time not to wreck a guy. I think it shows a lot of impatients and stuborness on quite a few other drivers. I'm all for hard racing and a little bumping but if a guy has a fender on you and you can't hold your line than to bad if you end up in the wall. On the other hand if you get loose making a run on the inside of a guy and take him out thats just a bad deal!
Sutty
I believe the question was did Gordon hold up the 31, and could Burton have bumped Bush out of the way not would Gordon have bumped him out of the way. Nice dig H.L. I think he (burton) could have taken out Bush and didn't and I don't think at the end of the race Gordon would have held him up for Bush, but I think he would have kept him behind for his own position if he could have, just like anyone else at the end of the race. I think the question is next time Bush is in second behind Burton will he drive the same way... And I hope the answer is yes.
eyehead
I wish that Burton would of wrecked kyle but burton is way to nice of a guy and there's no way he would do it.
PikeBayCommanche
We all know what would have happened if it was Kenseth behind Burton. Wooooops. Didn't me to tap you that hard Jeff. Sincerely, Matt Kenseth
tunrevir
It was a really awsome finish and I thought for sure there was going to be a bump and run ala Busch sr. to take out the schrub. I have to give Burton credit, hed could have won that race outright with a little tap and go, his car was fast! Gordo blew the restart and spun the tires and wasn't even a factor as far as holding up Burton in my opinion. Awsome race and pretty exciting finish. I don't know about you all but these late race cautions are really getting to me. Tunrevir~
