WCHA Final 5

I wouldn't exactly say the Gophers were impressive but they got the job done. The Sioux look like a machine right now and I think they will win tonight. Although, with the Gophers having home ice (nice recruiting tool), you never know

Wheeler shines when he has the puck. His weakness is away from "the action" and I think he even knows that. Too bad he doesn't have the mentality of Eric Rasmussen. Last night, they needed each of those goals, just as they would any other night and I'm glad someone took the reigns. It will be a good game tonight either way. I expect to see a lot of goals, one-sided, with whichever team gets the ball rolling first.

This is a great game. Of course, the WCHA Final Five final should be a great game. The Gophers are showing me something tonight.

Gotta go...the overtime is about to start...what a game!!

Although the score suggests otherwise, the Gophers dominated this session of "fire wagon" hockey. The amount of quality attempts was staggering in favor of the Gophers. It's playoff hockey and "the boys" are ready to get it on. It's time for the NCAA Tournament!

Nothing bad to say about Wheeler tonight, is there? grin.gif

Wheeler, that is the effort every player should have. I was b!tching to my son when he had a skate by and No Dak went back the other way but what a game and what a finish. I was telling my son that Broten got a goal like that against No Dak in 79 when I believe Casey was in nets. He look at me funny and then Frank brings it up to Wooger. Moral of the story is sometimes I know what I'm talking about.

M I N N E S O T A GO GOPHERS RAH!!!!!!!!!!!

The gophs definitely had it together last night, they pretty much controlled the tempo and play most of the game and in the end it paid off. Nice to see an effort for an entire game (actually 2 games) for a change. I'm glad I was wrong in my prediction for them. On the same note, I couldn't believe how bad scsu looked this weekend. They didn't even bother to show up on friday, I think UND actually dominated them more than what the score showed.

The best part of wheeler's goal was watching Lamaroux sit & pout for 5 minutes afterward. He spent the entire tournament jaw-jacking after every save he made & it was priceless to see him get shut up with that goal.

The gophs still have some work to do if they want to keep it going though. They are still trying to make every goal a highlight & not working hard enough to get the "dirty" goals (especially on the PP, seems like way too many soft passes), although the last one by wheeler was worth the highlight.

Once again it was a great tourney in st. paul & I can't wait to order my tickets again for next year. grin.gif

If any of you guys have scene a hockey game at The Ralph in GF. They put up a video on the scoreboard with highlights to get the crowd into the game which includes Holy Cross and the Bina goal earlier in the year. I was just suggesting they should add this highlight to the reel. GO GOPHERS

It was a great game. USCHO has the Gophers and Sioux predicted to be in the same regional...that would be unfortunate. These could very well be the two best teams in the country right now.

And after the way the Gophers won last night, I wouldn't want to face the Sioux again anytime soon...

After the game as I was leaving, Some jickey-jack was carrying a HOLY CROSS sign around. Wonder if he made it out of the X alive grin.gif

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
