best track and race to attend

Recommended Posts

Since there are a number of you who have had the opportunity to attend multiple races, I figured this was the best place to ask.

My hubby turns 40 next year, and I am already planning for his gift. We attended the Daytona 500 with his cousin and wife - a gift for the cousin's 40th birthday. We would like to do the same for my hubby. He has been to Chicagoland, and now Daytona. What are your top five best tracks and races to attend?

The August Race in Michigan is really a nice affair as well. If you camp, the experience is much better...especially on Race days.

The past two years there have been 3 races. ARCA, and the Busch and Cup races. VERY fan friendly...lots of free stuff before the Busch and Cup races just outside of the track. It's a pretty big "to do" for kids, and contests. My father in law has won a few different tool sets from Dewalt and Irwin, and when sharpie was big, I think we picked up over 30 pens (being teachers those come in handy)

If you stay off track, be ready for a long time in traffic...CAMPING is the way to go here, but a great track with good racing.

I have had tickets to Daytona for 13 years, I've been to Richmond, Atlanta, and Charolette. I would recommend 1 of the last 3 with Char and Richmond having the friendliest people. Southern hospitality at its finest. If you are going to Daytona make your reservations soon. We always stay in Orlando. It is a lot cheaper.

Michigan and Kansas City were nice because they are close. Michigan was also the first race I was at so it was way cool. Vegas I wouldn't go back to for a race.

As for the best though, there really is no comparison. The Bristol night race isn't like anything you'll ever experience anywhere. Its absolutely utterly amazing. The noise, the crowd, the cars under the lights, the action all over the track, man I'd go back there in a heartbeat!

Been to Richmond 4 times and dover once. Been to Talladega but not for a race, Richmond was great!!! Great seats to see everything, good racing since it is a shorter track!!!

Richmond is on my "to go to" list for sure. I've heard that visibility is a problem at Dover, particularly due to the cross over walk. True?

I had a thought to add too. The May speed week in Charlotte with the All Star race and then the next week the 600 would be a great trip. Lots to do that whole week involving NASCAR and you can tour many of the team shops around the area that week. The NASCAR museum will be opening there soon too (don't know when).

1. I'd vote for charlette. Its the only one I've been two but what a good time. Like lawdog mentioned a lot of the teams are based in the area and welcome visitors.

2. The next track for me is Bristol. Don't care if its the day or night race. I've been told to get the seats up high so there is a chance of getting some fresh air!!

3. Taladega - The lady in black, what else is there to say!

4. Any of the old school tracks that are still left. Dover, Martinsville, Richmond, Darlington, or Pocono (in that order.

5.Vagas - lots of stuff to do!!

We have relatives near Charlotte, and have been to Rousch Racing headquarters. That was really cool! We went to the track while it was being resurfaced, so they let us in to look around, but there were no buses taking people out on the track.

Bristol has been on his list of tracks to visit, mostly due to timing. We farm, so the spring and fall races would be a little more difficult to get to.

I think I will look at Bristol first, then go from there. Thanks for all the info!

(I turn 40 this year, and am secretly hoping for the same gift grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif)

I have attended two races. I would highly recommend the Spring Dega race & camp by the track.

I personally think the spring Bristol race was overrated, unless your seats are in the mid to lower level. I sat 3/4 quarters the way up for the Busch & Cup races and 1/4 the way up for qualifying and there's huge difference. (on a short you want to be close the action). Surprisingly, I think everyone was sleeping by 8 pm.(Maybe should've went to the fall race.) It's a good spot to see your favorite drivers get on & off the helicopters & leave on their on motorcycles & in the cars
