What bow to buy.

Well, I finally did it. I'm hanging up my old Hoyt and moving on to a matthews. I have been looking for a new bow eversince I had a mishap this fall with a monster buck. I shot the fred bear instinct and the (matthews made) Mission bow. Of the two, I really liked the Mission. The Instinct was nice but had too much vibration for the price tag. The mission had everything that I was looking for. It was about $400 all camo, or 300 with black riser. It had little hand shock, lots of speed, and was quiet. As I was leaving, I told the guy that I'd buy the mission if my buddy didn't sell me his switchback. He asked if I ever shot one and I said no. He then said that I had to shoot one. I did, and it was a big mistake, like going over to the darkside. I started doing some looking into prices. It would cost me just as much to buy a new mission with accessories as it would to buy a used Switchback XT that already had some with it. So,today I bought the Switchback XT, now I'm just waiting for it to arrive. By the way, There are a ton of Switchbacks for sale on hsolist, the Drenalins must be flying off the shelves. It has been nerve racking trying to get a good deal, but I believe that for what I got, I paid roughly half of what its worth. $600 for the bow, a G5 lighted sight, and a trophy taker rest. Was this a good deal?

I would say so...I'm debating getting a new bow this year but the money is tight. Let us know how you like it. BTW - don't the Switchbacks come with only one draw length setting? Oh yeah, and you just lost all excuses for this fall with that new toy ya got coming! wink.gif

I dont know if you got a steal but then price doesnt sound to bad for the items you received.

I just called a shop and now I would say you received a pretty good deal. They quoted me a price of $794 for the XT, bare bones.

Cooter, you are correct in the draw lenght. You can change it approx 1/2 if you use a loop.

Funny how much you learn by becoming a smart consumer. Matthews likes to make you buy a cam if you want to adjust your draw length. Draw length can sometimes be adjusted with the letoff, but its usually only a 1/2 inch increment Example 29" at 80% let off but at 29 1/2" its 65% let off. I felt most comfortable with the 29" draw length. I know that I have now lost all excuses for any misses next year. If I miss now, I just plain suck.

Yep, thats a decent deal. You can easily end up at 2X that price for a new unit fully set-up and outfitted.

Welcome aboard brother grin.gif

You would have been OK with that Mission bow too, I shot one a few weeks back and its a great bow for the money. I plan to buy one for my son this spring.

I got the bow. It basically came with everything but the arrows and release. I can still buy the accessories on it, they total about 250 bucks. The bow was bought in October 2006. After looking at it, I am pleased with the purchase. Not bad for just over $600. I can't wait to shoot it. I haven't looked on hsolist anymore, but I was looking for about 3 weeks prior to buying. I checked it everyday and was constantly looking for the buy it now tag. I finally found a buy it now for 600 bucks and jumped at it. Most of the others are 700+ if it has anything on it. The bare XT bow was bringing 575 used. The deals are there if you just keep watching. Good luck.
