Ice conditions with this Warm wind today

I can`t believe it rained again last night and barely went

below freezing, just a little ice of the roads this morning

but temps were already 44f. Now at 11am its up to 48f and

wind is starting to pick up with a wind advisory this

afternoon into the evening. I have a feeling it might be a

while before the ice in this region becomes safe again. I

would not even want walk on it when its been this warm for

so long. I guess I`ll have to savor last weekends fishing

to keep reminding myself its december. frown.gif suppose to be in the mid 50`s here today. confused.gif

Lakes in my area were holding their own as of Tuesday.

Yesterday noticed a little darkening starting to happen and today alot of it is going on. frown.gif Grass is greening and ground is soft and wet everywhere and wind gusting to 20+.

My larger permanent is sitting in the sun and the wood reading 60 degrees. I'm going out to roll a second coat of stain on it that I did not get done four weeks ago when it turned rather cold.

Then its going in storage as this 4,000 lb unit will not see any ice anytime soon enough to deal with it.

I bought a light weight 5 X 8 three weeks ago thinking by next week I'd be on the ice and driving by New Years.

I'm close to packing the whole season away and will decide by mid next week.

Painting outside on Dec 14 is not a good sign.

I feel your pain to, just invested over $1500 in new fishing

equipment to get this year going and it only got used once this

last weekend. My son is furious, keeps saying Curse you mother

nature. He wanted to go back out ice fishing this weekend so

bad.Last weekend he slaughtered the fish, outfished me 3 to 1.

Then again, Dad was putting on the bait for him, he has issues

with hooking waxies yet. grin.gif

The weather sure has been frustrating for those of us that live in the Metro and south however don't give up yet. You can still travel to Mille Lacs and find good fishable ice! Reports are 8-10" of ice on the south part of the lake. Funny they have not lost any ice this week and have even gained some ice? If willing to travel a bit you can still find good ice fishing.

Not sure if anyone has noticed or not, but the cold turn of weather in South Dakota has accelerated the oncoming of the cold front, and the forecast has us taking a dip closer to normal in temps this weekend...

We should be back to a positive Ice gain again by Sunday night, as Sunday is only coming up as a high of 33.

So really, it's a walk-out situation this weekend, and then we're moving nicely once again.

My Ex lives on a lake near Fergus... She called me last night to congratulate me on getting engaged, and told me that every night she hears the lake pinging and popping as it rejuvinates the ice lost during the day.

So it's not totally terrible... It just means you guys in the cities are going to have to come north if you want to find "Decent" ice.

????? its 55 here in South Dakota today and our forecast shows 55, 50, 46, 35 for daytime temps the next couple of days. Our low here in Sioux Falls is 29 degrees for tonight and tommorrow night.

I will be bird hunting this weekend instead of fishing. Atleast I was able to get out once this week before the ice got bad again.

Rick- I would love to but already committed to a large group . We plan on hunting some big catail sloughs, plus a huge cornfield we watched numerous birds going into. We tried the corn today and about 15 roosters shot out on the ends tommorow we will have blockers! grin.gif

Next time I would be up for it. cool.gif Plan on possibly hitting the slayton area next week.

The report I got was that it snowed in Western SD last night, which is going to cool down the prevailing westerlies...

Current forecast for my region (And I fish and Hour North of where I live) is

Friday High 38 (Windy) Low of 30

Saturday High 42 Low 21

Sunday High 33 Low 17

Which is down on all numbers by about 5 degrees from what it said yesterday.

Yeah it's not -10 and perfect ice making... But I consider it a positive change in the forecast, as far as Ice Fishing is concerned.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
