Whadda Ya Do While Yer Cattin'?

Eat, chat with my buddy, cut down the Vikings, talk up the Packers, watch the stars, look for falling stars(highly productive this time of year), organize tackle, tie snells, pre-cut my cut bait into nice chunks, wonder when I'm finally gonna catch that 60 pounder, etc.

Well it's never a bad time to sit with a good book on catfishing. I take NAFC books and read up on the critters I'm trying to catch.

Heck you might get a tip to speed up that run your waiting for. If your doing it all right, that run should not be that long off. If you got a loud clicker a nap is in order LOL ...Flathead fishing is a prime napping sport.

Good fishing, keep the rod tips up.

When I'm fishing channels I rarely sit on a spot long enough to get bored. If I go 15 minutes without a hit, I usually move. I don't set my rod down much either. I like to watch my line & feel for any light hitters. But I know what you are saying when you're stuck on shore with limited spot options. On some smaller rivers that I shore fish, I'll drive to 5-10 favorite spots along the river & hit them each for 20 minutes. If I catch fish I'll give them more time. Same way I fish channels from the boat. Flathead fishing is a different story though. Set the clicker & wait. Maybe crack a beer, talk, watch the bats. Maybe I'll bring the radio for a Twins game sometime. Vern

Hey Ed, Have you seen that new edible yarn? Can be great fun with a can of cheese-wiz!

Auquaman, I wouldn't worry to much about the added expense of a special two line permit....the money goes to a great cause (more guys to hand out special permits)

Most of the time, I fish alone so its usually pretty quiet sittin on the bank at night...quiet enough to hear all those nightime noises. Like Vern said too, Watching the bats is incredibly time consuming. I also like to watch the mosquitos land on my arm, fill up with blood and fall to the ground.....must be the hot sauce.

Yup, just sittin there waiting for the big one....Nothing compares!

With one rod on free-spool with the clicker engaged, I'll move up and downstream working a slip float on a second rod along shallow breaks, always staying within hearing distance of the clicker rod.

That's if I feel like working. Plenty of times, it was simply a matter of putting lines in different places and waiting out the fish. And listening to the night sounds and watching shooting stars and . . . well, you all know how those great nights go. grin.gif

Good idea Rushing. I should get your e-mail...I'm at klinnfamily@aol

Shefland, I WILL make it up there some day. After driving that far I wouldn't want to sit still either! Can those fish pull you out of your boots too?

A lot of eating, but that's probably not the best thing to do. If your with someone, just shootin the breeze is fun, or do what wastewater did at the last metro LETS, play cribbage!(they won with cats!)

Dirk W, I don't wear them thong thingys, that would just be down right scary.

But, the who does wear them just may be a big part of what I do-do while I'm waiting for "Da-Bite"...Eh?

Hey y'all. I know I haven't posted on here forever cuz I usually post about the Elk River or Monticello cat action. Anyways....I'm over in Iraq, got called up for the National Guard, 134th Signal Battalion from Inver Grove Heights. I'm attached here with the 234th Signal from Iowa, 156th Signal from Michigan, and 133rd Signal from Illinois. I wish I had some pics of it but I did get to do some fishing when I was at the Baghdad Airport for a few days, they have carp in the channels there, big ones too. Once I get back to the states I have film I'll develop and hopefully figure how to post some pics of "Fishing in Baghdad." Anyway, hello from the town of Balad, Iraq, about 40 miles north of Baghdad, and hope to be home on the Mighty Miss' soon hitting the cats.

Great to here from you Jeremy! Thanks for everything you're doin' for us over there, and for the good people of Bahgdad! You can join me for a cold one in my boat anytime.

As for what I do while I'm waitin' for a fish, well that's pretty easy. Drink like a fish, eat like a bear, and generally drive everyone else in the boat CRAZY!

As you might have guessed, I'm not a very patient person. Sorry......

Hey Jeremy "Riverbasher", thank you for your service! I'd love to see those big Baghdad carp. Post those photos! I fish the Monticello/Elk River area quite a bit for cats, smallies, redhorse etc. Keep in touch. Vern
