Depending on your budget I would first figure out the size that fits you best and would also look at V-fronts. I have heard they pull a lot easier. Than just start adding options till the budget is maxxed grin.gif You can always finish it as you go. I don't own one yet, just been doing some research. I plan on getting one in the next year or so.

I have looked at several used house recently. $4500 should not be a problem. Things to consider; Direct Vent Heater, Saves more space than you think. Make sure you tow it first. Inspect for a rusted frame. Think about what you will use it for in the coming years. There are many choices out there. You may want to consider a longer drive to get the right house for you. I want my to last me until I am old and grey, look as many online as you can.

Good Luck

Mike:

Your probably not going to find anything much past a stud version house or economy in a "new" house @ $4,500 in the size you want. Heater might even be a option with most you might find.

Used houses are a hot commodity right now seeing its so close to "go time" smile.gif

Check out the classifieds here and anywhere else. hsolist and fish house for sale dot you know what is a must to check out.

Given your budget, I would look at used houses.

I bought a house on hsolist this fall. It's a Performance Engineering built house in great condition.

I stayed away from used DIY houses (assuming a DIY frame). It's a dump shoot on quality. I'm sure some are made better than the brand name units, but I wouldn't take that chance.

Good luck!

Mike,

Call Mark. He's selling his 6.5' x14'. I bet you can get him down to $4500 no problem. His ad is in the for sale forum under Blackshack! Nice house... Empire heater and 4 bunks. He's had it set up by me for the last several years up on Red. May well be your best buy out there.

The Fish House Sore in Milaca makes a very nice house also. 10 year warranty on the frame and drop down.

Good Luck!

Ken

I had a Performance Engineering 6 1/2' x 14' for 5 years and it was a good quality house. However, I did bend my spindles so I ended up getting rid of it.

I built my own a few years ago with the Tundra heavy-duty frame from Fish House supply. It has the 5200 lb spindles almost impossible to bend. I cruise 75-80 mph back and forth Elk Hunting and trips to Red and Lake of the woods. The frames cost a little more, but you do get what you pay for.

Mike:

I hear ya on the problem issue. Don't rush in to it if you can survive till next season.

Didn't mean to lead you in to a problem house, dont recall

anything in the ad about a wheel issue.

You sure see alot of those Ice Castles for sale ?

I purchased a 6.5 X 14 Ice Castle this week that was in that price range. When I got it home and looked closely I noticed a small dent in one of the fenders. I called them up and they are going to have a new fender ready for me to pick up tomorrow! I'm not sure what the rules are on this site about giving out business names on the forumn so drop me an email if you want more info!

Is the light aluminum house by Soderbloom strong enough comparing with other steel frame houses?

Quote:

I tend to agree with Northlander. Lighter aluminum house with Soderbloom and you'd get more in terms of size for the money initially with some options. Add more options later as money permits.

Because its alum. doesnt mean its less durable or weaker. Your commercial airplanes are all aluminum, and look at the abuse they take. All I am saying is that after building two of my own ice houses and looking at no less than 15 other manufacturers and trailer frames, I would highly consider Soderblooms for lots of obvious advantages (weight, etc...), qualitity construction, and great service I received from them while building my own. Some people have said angle iron frames are weeker too. I would tend to agree but not neccessarily. Wood is lighter that steel. Yes thats true to but what are we comparing it to? Its like comparing an aluminum boat to a fiberglass one. Which one is stronger? I dont know, but my guess is that the fiberglass one is heavier if its built right.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
