  1. My wife and I went out of Silver Fox charters in Homer 2 weeks ago. They ran a very good business and put us on fish. Capt'n Steve was our captain. Another company called the "Butt Chasers" had a very impressive catch as we were walking by their store. I can't speak for what kind of a company they are though...
  2. I purchased a 6.5 X 14 Ice Castle this week that was in that price range. When I got it home and looked closely I noticed a small dent in one of the fenders. I called them up and they are going to have a new fender ready for me to pick up tomorrow! I'm not sure what the rules are on this site about giving out business names on the forumn so drop me an email if you want more info! [email protected]
  3. Dick's still has the 332c's. I spent quite a bit of time looking for them lately and finally found them ad Dick's.
  4. Have the dates been set yet for the LETS statewide? Team Josh is hoping to be able to get back in on the action this year.
  5. Start by scanning your system with a antivirus program. A good one that is free is at www.antivirus.com. Click on the "Housecall" button and do a scan. Then run one of the previously mentioned spyware scanners. I just got done rebuilding my mothers computer that started with these same symptoms. Once you get rid of whatever it is that is causing your problems (or give up and reload) make sure to install a good antivirus program and set it to automatically download the latest pattern files. Another good idea is to make sure you have all the recommended security patches for your operating system installed. Do that by opening Internet Explorer, click on Tools, and select windows update. There will be a link to scan your system and then it will tell you what needs to be updated. Last but not least get a personal firewall installed to prevent people from getting access to your system. Let me know if you have any other questions. -Capt'nJosh
  6. You guys are killing me... Not fishing LETS this year is going to be difficult to say the least! Maybe we will be able to make it to 1 or 2 events anyway... Capt'nJosh
  7. Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Sure wish I could make it, but I will be just up the river chasing eyes during iceout. Capt'n
  8. This might be a dumb question, but are we talking ice fishing, or open water? I know the Rainey River is opening up about that time, but is the lake?
  9. I'll second the vote for leatherman micros. If you want to get fancy you can get their names engraved on them too. Capt'nJosh
  10. Team Josh won't be in this year. Both have new baby's that are taking our time. We REALLY enjoyed this league and will be back in the future! Capt'nJosh
  11. Catfish/Mouse, Have either of you used PowerPro in the past. Can you compare the two?
  12. Have any of you tried any of the Cabelas brand lines? Thinking about tryingn one of them out this year... Capt'nJosh
  13. Backwater, Thats a pretty kewl contraption, but does it float? Capt'nJosh
  14. Might sound weird, but last year I used a LARGE cardboard box. Open the top of the box and flip it upside down so that the bottom is open. I bought 10 replacement pine broom handles (about $1 apiece) and pushed them through the sides of the box to hang the sausage on. Cut a door in the side of the box to access the hotplate. You will need to keep the hotplate away from the sides of the box. It worked great for smoking my deer sausage last year. In fact I just folded up the box and its ready for this year. I had $25 into it including the hotplate.
  15. Sounds like a great time CD! Unfortunately I have a wedding that weekend so I won't be able to make it. Capt'nJosh
  16. I have a 4 year old golden and found a way around the cocklebur problem. About 2-3 weeks before opener I take him in for a haircut and have them give him a "lab cut". When they are done with him he has 1-2 inches of hair everywhere and looks just like a lab. Since I started doing that I haven't had to pull 5-6 burs off him total. Capt'n
  17. Thanks for all the replys! I spoke with Radde in Waconia and its headed there this afternoon. Thanks again! Capt'nJosh

    Ice Updates

Lake Traverse was froze over this weekend. Saw 3 deer go across it to SD, 2 of them made it, 1 ended up swimming. The guys I hunt with saw 2 guys out there ice fishing Sunday... Capt'n [This message has been edited by Capt'nJosh (edited 11-11-2003).]
  19. I finally managed to find a buck big enough to make its way onto my wall. I'm looking for a good taxidermist in the cities area. Can anyone recommend anything in the west metro?
  20. Has anyone out there tried putting this stuff down? I've had a couple people tell me that it is awesome, but haven't tried it myself. I understand that it is a mix of minerals, is it ok to use during season or is that illegal baiting? Capt'nJosh
  21. 2 3/4" Winchester 385 grain partitian gold slugs are the way to go. 1900 FPS at the muzzle. I've used them for the last 2 years and have only shot 3 shells to get 3 deer. 1 of them was right around 100 yards out. Thats my $.02 Just checked, Federal has a 2nd generation sabot out that is similiar to the Winchester. Has anyone used those yet? 22. If I was going to get a new portable I'd be looking at the fishtrap voyager. I've got the next size smaller and its awesome. The only complaint I have is that I wish that it was a little bigger, but I had a blazer at the time I bought it and the Voyager would not fit in there. As far as a vex, watch the used gear section of this site. People are starting to upgrade from the FL-8 to the FL-18 and you can get a pretty good deal on a used FL8. Capt'n
  23. Had a golden retreiver start staggering and then 30 seconds later his hind legs went on him. He was trying to pull himself around with his front paws. We got a truck over there and loaded him up, kept him wet in the shade and got him drinking right away. He pulled out of it thank god! We always carry 20 oz bottles of water for the dogs (and us!) plus keep a large cooler full of water in the back of the truck for all the dogs to drink. We learned not to hunt so hard in the heat. Almost learned it the hard way...
  24. Went back to SD for their opener and couldn't beleave the number of birds. If you could find a slough next to a picked corn field you found birds, and LOTS of them! I'm underexagerating saying I saw 500 birds this weekend. Anyone else hunt SD opener? Capt'n
