Crestliner Fishawk 1850

Hey guys,

What are your experiences with Crestliner's line of boats? I am looking at a Fishawk 1850. It's 18.5 feet long with a 115 horse yamaha....seems underpowered....but i'm not a speed freak. How does this boat handle the rough water?

I have a Crestliner 1650sc and love it. I have had no problems in 5 years of ownership. Handles rough water ok for me. Have not been on waters bigger than Ottertail so thats all I can go by.

As for the motor size, can't really comment. I have a 50 4 stroke on mine and it gets me where i need to go and back with no problems. Trolls like a Dream!!

I would diffenitly buy a nother when the time comes. grin.gif

Here's the deal....for those of you who are a little more boat savy than me...I ask for your help! smile.gif

I'm considering buying a boat from a guy who is asking 18,900. It's a 2003 Cresliner 1850 Fishhawk

Dual Console

115 Horse Yamaha (200 hours)

Lots of other little gizmos on it.

I went to NADA and their value for boat/motor was about $11-12,000. Is this guy asking wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaay too much?

I guess i'm looking for a little advice from some fellow anglers.

In my opinion... Yes. NADA is definitely in the range I would consider paying for a boat like that, depending on accessories. Its basically the off season too, bad time to be selling a boat. Good time to be buying a boat.

Even though you may like the boat, if you're at all concerned about the hp (and I would be concerned) then I would look for something else. Not going with the right motor is something that you'll kick yourself for every time you use the boat.

I fish a lot out of 1750 SC Fishhawk with a 115 Yam and a T8. Nice set up and nice boat, but I don't think I'd want that motor on a bigger boat. It's not just speed you'll be sacrificing, it's also power and cruising performance. Espcially with a full windshield.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

I have this exact set-up although I have a 115 opti on the back. I have driven in an 1850 FH with a 115 4-stroke and there is a big difference in handling between the two. The opti definately handles this boat better out of the hole and cruising speed. I have never felt like this boat is under powered but I'm not a speed freak nor do I fish on big bodies of water. The boat has just been fantastic. Your seller must have whacked himself in the head because at this price you can buy a brand new '06 model with a 150 Opti for just about the same. Call the Crestliner dealer in Hutchinson and he'll sell you the one on his showroom floor for 18995. Just talked to him last week about ordering some accessories for mine to be put on this winter. Good Luck and I would definately receommend the 1850 DC Fishhawk.

Before I'd comment on whether it's over priced or not I'd need to know more about the rigging. Is there a 4 stroke kicker? Trolling motors, electronics, radio, Trailer, boat cover, ect...

But my first instinct is it's at least a bit high.

It's fully rigged with the exception of a kicker. I just think the motor is too small for the boat. He has nice electronics on the boat. I am going to hold off on buying this boat, not exactly what i'm looking for. Thank you guys for all of your input! It is greatly appreciated. I will however, continue to look at Crestliners and not ONLY Lunds. I had my heart set on a Lund Pro V until I came across this Crestliner.

I'd definitely max it out at 150. I run a 1750 FishHawk and I have a 115 4-stroke on the back. The 115 will move the 1850, but not like it should. You'll want to go with the 150...

The 1850 is a darn nice boat. A lot of room and set-up very nicely. You will like fishing out of the 1850...

Thanks Matt for tip. I have always heard get as much motor as your bank account will allow.

Make sure you get out and do some ice fishing for those of us who are stuck in the south!

I have a 2003 Fish Hawk 1850 DC with a Suzuki 140 4 stroke. I love the boat, plenty of hole shot and tops out around 44 mph. IMHO the 115 is not enough motor for the boat. As many other posters have said, the asking price is WAY to high. If you are looking to spend around $19,000, buy a brand new boat. I would max the HP with a 150. Too bad it is very difficult and costly to power a C-liner with anything but a Merc. If I bought new again, and money was no object, I would get the 1850 Fish Hawk and power it with a Suzuki 150 4 stroke.

Get the right engine for the boat, HP is not everything, look at recalls, warranty etc. I have twin Merc. Optimax 150s on my Mako 253 and they have been great. However, the lower units were both defective, thankfully the warranty covered everything!

That is smart to pass this boat up, I own a 1850 with 150 suzuki 2 stroke and got it with trolling motor depth finder and single console new in 05 for 16,900. The boat is great and the motor is very nice at top end, Little hard to idle with but the trolling motor takes care of that.

I have the exact same boat with a soderblooms stainless prop and yes some more H.P. would be nice but it gits along pretty good and am very happy with this set up and I can troll it down to about 1.2 mph, I dont think you will be able to do that with a 150.

What is your top end on your boat and that prop?

Depends on the water/wind but a pretty consistant 43mph as long as the front livewell isnt full, Ive actually had it going faster but I was pretty low on gas grin.gif and I prefer to have at least a half tank before putting in. I also found out with the help of Jay soderbloom that my trim gage is just a reference, he told me to keep trimming it upuntil the prop starts slipping and listen to the sound it makes (for future reference) and watch for the speed to drop off and an rpm climb abit then trim back down alittle. I'm sure I can get more from it by moving the motor up 1 bolt hole but I want to check into it a little more.

Nothing more fun than finding just the right setup. I got my 18.5 Monark king with the 140 suzuki in late july 06, new and only $20,000. I'm more than happy without the brand name. The power and handling is good.I wish I could figure out how to send pitures to this site.Hope you find yours before opener.

In my opinion, i would spend a little bit more money to get the warrenties, plus, get the motor that you are looking to get.

Im with Matt on this one, if i were you, i would want that 150 on her, to make sure you have enuf power. Being in the boat industry, i have seen alot of people come bak and say they wish they would have placed a bigger motor on there boat. smile.gif

Just a thought.

Last fall i bought a 1850 fish hawk with a 115 Merc Opti 2 stroke for 18,100.00 including tax (with tarps, butt seat, 85 lbs auto pilot included). It has a good hole shot and GPS speed of 40 mph. If 3 mph more is worth $2,000 than get the 150 but otherwise put the $$ towards a kicker and other gear to become a better fisherman rather than a racer.

3 mph diff by going 150 instead of 115? I'd say 6 to 8, you're talking about a lot more diplacement, bigger gears, bigger prop, less hull in the water, etc. with a 150. But I agree with you on spending the money on things that will help you be a better fisherman.

I have a 2004 1850 with a 150 Suzuki 2 stroke and I'm very happy with it. 50 mph with 3 guys in it. That 115 your talking about is a very good motor but if you can get a good deal I would go with the 150. My Suzuki gets me down to 2.1 mph. If you fish a lot of bigger water you may want to go with the bigger motor but if you don't I'm with the others, spend the money to make you a better fisherman.

The only real reason I got the 150 is because I got a great deal on it...just under $15,000.

Love the Fishhawk and can't wait to get out in her again this sprind!
