When she asks me "What's that for" Or "What are you doing" or "Why do you need that?" or "Why are you taking those days off from work?" and In my reply the word "fishhouse" is said. I think she's getting sick of it.. =)

I am very fortunate with my wife being as understanding as she is.I believe if its for hunting or fishing,I have it.She has never given me any grief for my equipment.I in return, never argue about new shoes,a dress, new items for the house or a new car for her.It does work both ways.

Yes,I am fortunate. smile.gif

Hiya -

My wife likes open water fishing, but she's a nut for ice fishing. We were parked on the couch the other night watching an episode of Fishing the WildSide On Ice that I'd taped and she turned to me an said "Man I want to go ice fishing right now. Should we get a drop-down house?" Told her I knew 50 guys that would go insane with jealousy if I quoted her... smile.gif

Her favorite open water fishing, by the way, is muskie fishing in October.

The football metaphor for me ending up with her is "outkicking your coverage..." smile.gif

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

RK- Sounds like you got lucky like me. I had the auger and she had the house when we met. A couple of weeks ago we were looking at drop downs and she walked into one and said "If we were to get one, this is the one I would want!" Well it is now in my driveway, now she wants to buy a generator, TV, Surround sound and she evan bought me a new FL20 and gave me a $50 gift certificate to Gander for my birthday today! Man I LOVE MY WIFE!!!

My wife hunts, fishes, and is an outdoor nut. I guess that is why we are still together after almost 10 years and 2 kids! grin.gif

After 34 years I have never heard my wife say anything, but go for it when I decided to get a boat, ice fishing equipment, take a trip, or anything related to my outdoor intrests. Of course I'm a big supporter of her intrests and activites which I think has a lot to do with it. Incidently she has absolutly no intrest in fishing.

My wife of 8 yrs. knows that I am an impulse buyer and it is okay as long as the bills get paid first...if she only knew how I juggle some of these "bills" shocked.gif

If I make a larger purchase like my Eskimo QFIII, I put it together at a buddy's house and leave it over there until ice fishing commenced. She noticed the new fish house in the back of the truck and asked when I bought that, my son, the 10 yr. old snitch (yes, there was a trial period in the relationship, wink.gif), proceeded to rat me out. I told her I got a real good deal on it "could not pass it up"...too bad the only real good deal I got on it was putting it in the back of my truck. grin.gif

My son is finally learning, what Dad buys is benefitting him, so, better keep mouth shut. HA HA.

The first time I went shopping for an FL-8 She was with me, this was prior to our marriage and at that point she realized that there is no point in trying to rationalize with a person that has drool from mouth to floor over something as stupid as this. (of course this was her thought)

We are often driving down the road and I will say WOW! LOOK AT THOSE! The first couple of times I would get decked and she'd say quit looking at other women, at least when I am with. I said what are you talking about(look around there are no women walking around)? I was talking about that Four door, Dually F-350 with the V-10, Pulling a Skeeter. I was in love. Now I get the eye roll. With a mumbled comment... laugh.giflaugh.gif

Somebody asked me if Im still in love, and I said I cant afford not to be. My wife is pretty good letting me buy stuff for hunting and fishing within reason, I dont sit in the bars or waste to much money on stuff like that, I stick any extra money i have into gear for the outdoors, laugh.gif

Sometimes I think maybe I SHOULD start a drinking habit - it would have to be cheaper than hunting and fishing! grin.gif

I, too, am a blessed man as a few others here are. That being said, I bought her a Browning 20ga O/U this year and her first snowmobile a few weeks ago too. I got off cheap the first 10 years of our marriage, but it's sure catching up with me now. Hah!

Last winter I took my 8 yr old daughter out on a local lake for a few hours one morning, and my wife was going to bring my 5 yr old son so we could swap kids and I he & I would fish for the afternoon. Well, she shows up with my son and grabs one of my rods. I ended up leaving her and the kids in the house and I stood outside fishing for hours - she had so much fun cathin' sunnies & gills, she was HOOKED.

Ya, I just about fell over the other day. I had made the coment several weeks earlier, that if I were to ever upgrade my portable it would be an otter. She responded, "I heard an ad on the radio say that a bait shop in madison lake carries them." Where'd that come from?

I'm not married yet... (Wedding is on September 15th!)

But in all our time knowing each other and dating, and now that she lives with me, I've made a point of being absolutely straight up about my passion for fishing.

I don't go out partying/drinking etc...

I told her my perspective is that for thousands of years men have been out there on the edges, hunting fishing, working and playing hard... And in all the centuries before the sexual revolution we weren't involved immediately in the work of family life as much as we are today. I'm totally fine with taking a big role in our family dynamic, and I'm excited to one day teach my children about the sport I love.

But at the same time I need some time to get away, to go fishing, to go out and embrace that primal male inside... Because if take a man, a real man, and always make him sit at home like a house plant, it would be like hanging the Mona Lisa in the men's room of a Truck Stop, or using a Thoroughbred horse, at the County Fair Pony rides...

A Guy just have to get out and get back to those roots every now and then.

I pad my freedome with a couple of simple steps.

My Personal Maxim is "Personal Accountability is the high water mark of a man." (I always do my share of the house work, and toss in a couple of little stuff extra along the way during the week.)

My Follow up... I always make sure that she and I resolve any arguement before the next time she speaks with or see's her mother.

As a result, "Currently" I am encouraged to get out and get fishing!

Somehow though I get the feelings things are going to get tighter the closer I come to September 15th!

LOL

STOP IT!!!!! I get dump from my wife every time I mention it. We had our first baby (boy) in March and I went fishing 4 times this summer (insert tears here). I mention something about ice fishing and there's never a comment. She loves to summer fish but when there are chores to do around the house there's no mention of fun cause that means we're not WORKING! LOL I'll be lucky to get out a few times this winter due to the little one but it's all worth it. Bla bla bla. I can't wait to bring him fishing. If you ever see a blue with silver tarp mailbox type ice house on South Center stop by and say HI. Too bad I'll be at home washing the dishes and watching TV!

Don't get me wrong here. I love my wife to death and we get along VERY well. Not one bad argument in 8 years and married for 1.5 yrs.. Just gotta get past the Honey-do lists.

My wife doesnt mind that I ice fish. It's just seems she gets upset that if I am working on something, it's for the fishhouse and not something that needed to be fixed around the house. House hold work is not as fun as fish house work wink.gif

Heck, I've got a fishing trip planned on Febuary 14th. laugh.gif
