CNY Tim - its much worst than an epidemic, its become a pandemic! Good to finally see an encouraging ice report on this board. We had a great discussion yesterday, really got me pumped to start saying hello to some of those southern jumbos.

King - looking forward to hitting the hardwater with you and Tim and the rest of the crew in the not too distant future. Those winds don't sound too good - I've taken rides on Oneida,Rago and Erieville in my portable shelter in similar conditions - high winds and no snow on the ice. None of the rides were fun - luckily no major damage to equipment or myself.

I just came back from my tri county tour.(Broome,Tomkins and Chenango. There was not any fishable ice.Whitney Point 1 inch,Dryden 11/2 inches and Long Pond 2 inches. All measurements taken just off shore after that they all got a little thiner.Looks like next week before I fish any.

CNY Frank - way too busy just holding on. My shelter sits on a couple of downhill skis - real easy to pull around but also real easy to get pushed around. Amazing what kinds od speeds that thing will reach with a strong breeze to propel it. About all I could do was to hang on. Tried sticking my feet out the door to provide some drag but that didn't make any difference. Basically a rough patch of ice and getting blown out of the jet stream around a point were the only things that finally stopped me. So if we get the chance to fish together this year you and Tim and the others should definitely stay upwind of my location.

Tank - definitely a wise decision given the ice conditions you reported. Once things stabilize a bit I think we will have some good options on the hard water.

Pete - Sorry guy didn't make it up to Delta found myself with little time on my hands this a.m. to do more scouting.

I did find 4.5" of ice on Z's lake and that's exactly where were headed tomorrow morning, figure with the overnight low she will be at least a stout 5" or even better. I have been looking forward to this trip and an opportunity to break out my brand spanking new load of Maki Plastics that I purchased from Loby Baits. The time has come for some serious plastics testing, let the games begin...

salmonseeker73 - Jimi I got you taken care of I know a place that has exactly what your looking for and at a price wink.gif well the Don himself cannot refuse wink.gifgrin.gif

Tank - Thanks for the report and with some luck our lake will be ready for exploration next weekend.

North Shore - Hopefully the PO will have something for us tomorrow thanks for checking today and congratulations to Maggie on another win on the hard wood.

I made my rounds around the ponds here in Greece where I live....Cranbarry Pond, Long Pond and Braddocks Bay.

No one was on the ponds, but at Braddocks Bay, the tip-up crew were out in full force. I ventured out from shore about 10 feet and came to a previously open hole. Measured 1 3/4". I am glad I didn't have to pee because my pants would have been wet. Got off quickly.

The guys fishing had their tip-ups out half way to the end of the docks, and they were standing on shore waiting for a flag. Pike were caught...

I wouldn't have fished out there with less than 4". Granted it is less then 3 FOW where they are, but I don't want to take a chance.....

Johny . . .you are a pretty smart guy for being from Rochester!! Despite the flu, I am stuck at work and can't wait to hit the driveway this pm when I get home. No calls from Timmie so he either lost his cell in the first hole he drilled or he lost it in the second hole!! tongue.gif

HeyNow . . . been on Oneida and seen the flying Dutchman act . . .it is no fun. Last year on the Can we had to sit outside and pretend we were anchors a couple of times. I throw ice chips from the holes on the leeward side (I think that is the non-wind side) of my shelter to act as a brace once I get a "permanant" hole. Good until the wind changes direction.

CNY Frank - thats a good idea which I have tried with some degree of sucess. I also have used the chips/slush scooped out of the hole to freeze my skis to the ice. I also have used my auger to anchor my shelter in place a number of times but am hesitant to do so because I bent the shaft of my old blue strikemaster doing so. Needless to say, if the shaft is bent, even a little, it won't cut at all and it was an expensive lesson learned.

I figured Tim would have given you a live, on the ice report by now. Wondering how he's doing? Hopefully, all of his St Croix's will be in one piece.

This snowfall really sucks.

Have a good afternoon.

Had to cut the trip short guys Amanda's school let out early so I had to leave the great wide north by 12. Anyhow caught steady fish from 10 a.m to 12 a.m. Nothing much going on from 8-10 p.m. just didn't mark many fish. 34' seemed to be pretty good. I released a few fish today all toll about 30 craps a rocky and a small perch. Out of those craps about 10 were keepers and not one was over 12"

Rob and Craig brougt home about 15 keepers between them. Maki plastics worked great and there was not a one that did not work. ifished mostly maki's and poli's. here some pics for you grunts. BTW the ice was 5 3/4", nice...

Didn't think it would ever get here after the year we had John... Thank God the walleyes kept us busy wink.gif I took a second and nodded to the gods before that first drop down the hole, wishing everyone a safe and happy fish filled season. Sorry for the torture pics John it was not my intention... grin.gif

Not bad for my first trip on the hard stuff, I didn't forget a thing... Poor Z hooked up his battery for the MarCum last night and forgot to plug it in. confused.gif He fished blind this morning.. grin.gif

NorthShore thanks for the call about the spikes I'll be up there after work.

Timmy- ditto what IG said - great first outing of the season. I guess those plastics do work after all laugh.gif. Glad to see you didn't break anything. From the reports I've gotten from a few friends this lovely snow is really putting the screws to us. Hopefully King will have some encouraging news from his part of iceville.

We only have a dusting of snow out here Timmy as of Saturday morning which is fine by me. I've got to vacumn the house this morning crazy.gif and then I'm going to take a ride with my nilsmaster and tape measure and see if I can find some safe ice to chase those "Stoagies" later today. I have a backup trout pond I could fish or go after crappies and gills but I'm really leaning towards walleyes, big surprise eh wink.gif For some reason I'm just not that excited about catching panfish yet but I'm sure that will change smirk.gif
