Going to buy an Aqua vu - boy did I screw up

After some research I decided to get an Aqua Vu Scout SRT for the upcoming ice season. Its more than a couple hundered bucks so I better tell the wife before I spend that much (you married guys know what I am talking about). She said "no I don't want you spending that much", WHAT no??, I wasnt asking her I was just giving her a curtousy heads up, she never says no to stuff like that, what gives? So a small argument ensues and I basically said "you saying no makes me want to buy it out of principle" and the argument ends with no resolustion. This was a couple days ago, so I was going to get it this weekend and I told her again, "just so you know I am going to get it this weekend." So then she tells me "The reason I said no is because I have been researching and emailing your freinds to see which camera I should get you for your birthday (later this month) I was really excited about it being a suprise." OUCH, boy do I feel like a jerk, and to add insult to injury, her research led her to the Aqua Vu SRT, the very one I wanted. Oh well, I guess it makes for a good story.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I've been "busted" a few times myself by my wife for wanting to buy stuff she picked out for my bday as a surprise. I still have a hrad time figuring it out sometimes. Maybe it's best just to listen to what they say. crazy.gif

After 24 years of being married to the same woman, I'd a seen that coming a mile away!!!grin.gif

Ah well, live and learn...live and learn. Remember that for next time, and if it happens again, start dropping hints for the top dollar version,(with all the options) treat her like a queen and bask in your own genious!!!:)

I had the SAME thing happen a couple of years ago, but substitute a Garmin etrex legend, and a little more verbage. Needless to say I got it but it cost me way more than it should have.

Hint to other husbands, PAY ATTENTION: If she says it is stupid to get something because she feels you'll never use it, do not, I repeat DO NOT compare that to the expensive jewelry that she wears 2 days a year. Let me be the only guy to make that mistake, please, for your own sake.

My wife tells me that she can never get me something like this for Christmas or birthday because if I want something I just buy it. Maybe this stems from the fact that she has never given me anything for hunting or fishing in 34 years. I'd bet a bundle that she won't start now either. I do have to say that one Christmas I found one of those ice fishing kits in my stocking that had about six little lures, a lead depth finder and a little cork bobber in it. confused.gifsmile.gif

My girlfriend and my family say the same thing to me.Let's face reality, I have expensive taste and want it now, I just need to get them all coordinated as to where I want my giftcards from. It seems every year I get gift cards but they vary so much as to where there from. Better yet give me cash, then I can shop anywhere.

I used to always get frustrated with clothes and stuff that I 'needed' for xmas and b-day. I have since gone back to the good ol days and I make a xmas list. I do it on an excel spreadsheet with cost, item number, location, and also put on there where to get gift cards to if there is something big I am saving up for. Problem solved this year it is all salmon fishing stuff. I also e-mail it out to my family. I make sure there is small stocking stuffer priced stuff all the way up to the big dogs.

I usally buy these things in stelth mode. remember there are three prices too everything.. the price you tell her you paid... the price you really paid... and the price you pay when she finds out what you really did paid. Thats the world I live in. After 14 years of marrige we both know the deal and I keep it under control(kids still get fed)

My wife and I have a pretty good understanding, she doesn't buy me hunting or fishing stuff and I don't buy her jewelry. Now if she wants to get me something for my outdoor adventures, she flat out asks and I show her, and if she wants a specific piece of jewelry, she shows me and I opay ( boy do I pay!!). The only pieces of jewelry she wears that I bought are on her left ring finger.

Now when it comes to me buying stuff, I keep a "Fund" account at the bank. All pull tab winnings, poker night winnings, odd paid committee work at school, etc. goes into that fund. Whenever I go out of town for the weekend, any left over weekend cash goes in there as well. Needless to say, this has been a good year, I am looking at a LX-5 for this season which won't put too much of a dent in the account smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

I also have been putting 25-50 bucks a month in a shotgun fund for my two boys (almost 4 and 5 1/2)since my oldest was born, that money is solely for the purchase of hunting equipment when they get older. My goal is a matched trio of Berreta over/unders when they are out of college.

I quit smoking and I kinda thought that might entitle me to spend a little extra on outdoor stuff. I was wrong. I used to be the president of a union local and I used the union wages to pay for my outdoor toys. Man I miss that job. To make it even worse, I'm retired and can hunt and fish all I want to. I guess I don't have it so bad after all. shocked.gifgrin.gifwink.gif
