Filling LP

BigDaddy

Question

I don't know about you, but I wonder about some of these inexperienced/untrained people filling LP at gas stations. They really struggle sometimes. And they'll always charge me for a full container even though my tank wasn't empty.

I was camping in Michigan and stopped at a LP store. That guy really knew what he was doing and only charged me for what I got (10 lbs topping off a 20 pounder).

Where are the good places in the Metro for LP? NW burbs preferred.

Thx

Funny you bring this topic up as I just got back from a LP search. Local Farm & Home station has a kid working the LP and says a 100# tank is a flat rate as is all tanks there.

$2.39 a lb he says.

Went to the local Co-op (who supplies Farm & Home)and they told me $50 p/u and $70 delivered.

Another just miles north of me wants $85 and wont deliver.

So I guess its a dump shoot in price, knowledge and service.

I like Little Bighorn, they are very competitive. 100 lb'er average cost last year was 43.00, 20 lb'er 12-13, 40 lb'er 23-25. Not to mention the customer service excellent. For those interested they are in Coon Rapids. (these numbers based on last spring)

I second Little Bighorn. They are great and I'm proud to support a local small business. I don't know the exact address but they are in Coon Rapids right off of I think Northwest BLvd. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Little Big Horn is at 1532 Northdale Blvd in Coon Rapids. That's where I like to go also. Take Hwy 10 to Hanson Blvd. Go north about a half a mile to Northdale Blvd. Take a right and Little Big Horn is another mile or so on the right side. It's just a small shop out of a garage and is easy to miss if you're not familiar with it.

BTW quite a few years ago, before the new tanks came out, I took two 20 lb tanks to a gas station to get filled. Well they sure filled them. After we unloaded our things at the shack we noticed a propane smell and heard hissing. The 2 tanks we had filled were leaking propane. The brain surgeon that filled them must have put in enouth to fill a 100 lber. crazy.gif
