Fiber optic sight question??

Right now I have a fiber optic sight that has worked well for the last couple of years....this year for some reason I am getting alot of shot oppurtunities right at last light and I'm just not able to pick up my sight.....I have a ladder stand on the edge of a field so at dusk i get the shadow of the woods on me but can see the deer plain as day....Has anyone used a fiber optic sight that picks up the low light??

Cobra Sidewinder. I have one and love it. It is bright in very low light conditions. I think it has like 2 feet of fiber optic wrapped up for each pin.

Yeah, try an HHA. I have one (HHA 5000 w/3ft of fiber optic)and I am not kidding when I say that you can still make the pin out (faint, however) at midnight. It takes very little light for this sight to glow. Here are some of the features:

I've got a Cobra Sure-Loc Sidewinder and it has the brightest fiver optics I've seen.

I have a cobra sidewinder as well, but personally I dont find it to be exceptionally bright. I put a tru glow on my son's bow and I would say that in low light his pins show up quite a bit better than my those on my Cobra.

i also have cobra sidewinder on my parker and i have the tru glow on my mathews im thinking about changen my parker to tru glow because its just that much brighter.

I have the Tru-glo and like it, in the morning, when I can see my pins, its time to pick up my bow and get ready, in the evening, when I can't see the pins, its DARK!!! The other night, some deer had me pinned in my stand, they were feeding about 50 yards away, by the time I climbed down, I could still see my pins but had my doubts whether I could see a deer good enough to shoot, even if they had come right under my stand.

You can also buy a tiny blue light to illuminate the sight pin. I hunt mostly in the woods and when the leaves are on the trees, this can give me 10-15 more minutes of shooting time (within legal shooting time of course) than I would otherwise have. I won't take a shot if it's no longer legal shooting time and I can no longer clearly make out the outline of the deer through the peep.

BTW, this light works very nicely when in low-light conditions from the inside of a ground blind. I also find its best to have the shoot-through mesh in a ground blind pulled down for the last half hour and first half hour of shooting time. If you are camoed well enough, it shouldn't matter in such lowlight and you will see the deer much more clearly.

well last night I hit Gander and they had the tru glo on sale with the the little blue/purple light add on.....I tried it out at dusk to see what I could see and the sights were ok but you add that little light and you could shoot at midnight (if it were legal of course). If I new that sights had changed this much I would have changed a long time ago....thanks for the info everyone.

Really? I mean, I would never do that and know you said you wouldn't. But I have trouble seeing the outline of the deer through the peep in the minutes before legal shooting time ends. No matter how bright the pin is.

My problem is i hunt the edge of a field and my portable is about 10 yards in the woods so it gets darker around me faster than in the open field....I can see the deer fine but not my pins.....I had the old little single wire (1") fiber optic sights and they just weren't good in any low light.

I feel your pain. I was just referring to the fact that when it was midnight or so, the brightest sight pin in the world wouldn't help you. : ) And again, not that either of us would ever consider doing that.

Chucker, you should think about getting a peep with a bigger hole, it will allow more light through. I have the Cobra Sidewinder with SureLoc and it is amazing. Quick to sight in to deadly accurate and the pins are bright as can be. Make sure to get the smallest diameter ones. Can't remember the exact specs on those at the moment.

My peep works great until legal shooting light ends so I'll probably just stick with the same one. My point was that no peep will help you see a deer clearly when its too dark to at least see the outline of the deer clearly with your two eyes.

That's why I switched to the NO-PEEP. It took some time to get used to and set up, but now I can see well enough

(under 30 yards) to shoot till closing (or later with targets).

The peep is more of a factor than the pins.

I am considering of getting a better sight though. I like the Cobra pins.

Iagree with chucker that the limiting factor for my is being able to see the deer through the peep sight in low light situations. I just got a 1/4" peep and that has helped alot, but there's only so much you can see through the peep.

I wonder if some of you that have the sidewinder have a different one orhave that coil cover on it, because there are times when the pins are too bright and they almost merge together with mine. I dont know what would cause the difference.

I have the Extreme RT-900 with .19 pins. The lighting system is great on this site. Usually the light shines on the pins but this system the light shins directly on the fiber in the back of the sight. Great sight....

I had this problem two years ago. I attached a little tru glo light to my sight. I have a pendulum sight so I drilled a hole in the plastic and the tru glo light screwed right in. I usually keep it on at dusk.

As for the peep. I got rid of the peep problem by doing a lot of practicing with both eyes open. At first you see two sights and its confusing (basically you are crossing your eyes and seeing double) but after awhile you begin to naturally focus on the correct pin and the other one doesn't bother you anymore. With enough practice and a consistent anchor point you can increase accuracy and still see the outline of the deer at dusk, especially if its in the field. Try it practice shooting, open both eyes, you should then see the whole target pretty clearly. If you are already doing this, then maybe its time for a new peep.
