Making the switch - AMSOIL

After dealing long enough with different mixes on my 2 stroke motors I am really considering making the switch to AMSOIL and going with 100:1 on everything. Anyone had any problems that have done this? Is there a specific kind of AMSOIL I'll need?

There is only one you can mix 100:1 I think it is Sabor oil or something like that. I use it at a 80:1 mix just because I do not want to rune a $300 auger or a $400 lawn mower. But it seems to work good.

It's the Saber Professional. I've used it for about a year now on all of my 2 strokes. It's nice to just have one can for everything. I run it at 100:1, but everything was broken in using it's normal ratio (40:1 etc.). I've noticed a lot less smoke/smell, but just enough so you still know it's a 2 stroke

Here's my take, and you can take it for what it's worth.

I've been running a lawn maintenance business for 18 years now.

My dad's a HUGE Amzoil guy, always has been.

This year I went back to OEM oil, because I was always burning up my trimmers. I'd get about a year out of them, and that'd be it. Either it'd burn up, or the screen on the exhaust would plug up, seemed like I was always fine tuning the mixture.

Anyways, I'll put about 1000 hours on a mower in the summer, roughly 500-600 on a trimmer. Yes, that's 1600 hours of time, not including drive time or rain days in a season that lasts about 24 weeks, you do the math.

Anyways, most guys, will probably run a 2 stroke trimmer or other motor MAYBE 1 hour / week, so at that rate, your trimmer will last about 20 years.

Now, we also ran Amzoil in our '86 Suzuki 85hp on the boat. We NEVER had any problems, and with the hours that I work in the summer, hardly ever did it get a chance to be winterized.

We never have had a problems with pistons being stuck, bad rings, lack of starting, NOTHING in 20 years, so.... good.

I also switched away from Amsoil. Used to use it in an EFI outboard until a couple mechanics talked me out of it. I never had any problems with it, but I also never noticed any benefit from it either. Now I have an Opti and I use oil specifically made for DFI motors.

No chance I'm running 100-1 on anything.......my Amsoil dealer runs 50-1 in his Outboard......

the outboard oils from Amsoil aren't mixed at 100:1 if I remember right. That is their sabre mix for small 2 stroke motors. There are specific oils from Amsoil for each and every different kind of motor. You have to make sure you are applying the right oil to the right motor at the recommended ratio. I used the Amsoil injection oil in my last outboard for many years and the motor injected it at the same rate as any other oil... just a better grade. Better mileage, less smoke, better idling, easier starting... those were the reasons I went to Amsoil. Never had a problem. Remember 100:1 with a synthetic is a whole different bear than 40:1 with an petroleum based oil... apples and oranges and not comparable.

I also keep a gallon or two around of the 100:1 mix for all my small equipment... never had a problem with any of those either...

I run the sabre in all my small equipment and the 4 stroke marine in my 4 stroke yamaha and I havent had any troubles at all. I know my auger and mowers run a lot cleaner with it than my friends who dont use amsoil.

I also run amsoil in my lower unit. I know guys who race sleds and bikes and they swear by Amsoil. If its good enough for the abuse they put it threw its good enough for me.

ATO Saber Outboard 100:1 Pre-Mix

I have been running this mix (100:1) for the second year in my outboard. (75 h.p. Evinrude) I have not had any problems. I cannot recall how many tanks of gas with this mix went through the motor.

I also have been running the saber professional at 100:1 in my other 2 strokes as well, that is two stihl chainsaws, strikemaster auger, and generator. I have been running these for the second year, also. Made the switch at the same time.

I am very happy with the performance.

I use AMSOIL in all 2 strokes and 4 stroke oil in my ATV. I especially like it in my 175 efi Mercury (HP injector) and snowmobiles (Power valve injector).

Expensive oil, but it performs so much better (NO fouling, carbon build up, easy starting, idling, less smoke, etc...)

I've torn into sled engines that had used conventional oil compared to one with Amsoil, and it's an amazing difference in how clean and less wear the engine had with the Amsoil synthetics. I'm no expert, just my experience and observations.

However, I can't bring myself to 100:1 if it requires a richer mixture.

Red Rooster Auto Parts stores, I switched over and am much happier now that there aren't black oil lines on the fish house walls and a 10 min. smokeout time in the house. Blowers and chainsaws run better too, and only 1 mix for them all; easy!

I have run Amsoil HP injector oil in my 2001 Evenrude 75 ficht from the 50 hr mark till now. Not sure the hours on it now but it has over 3000 miles on it. It doesn;t smoke and I just filled the resevoir with the 5th gallon of oil in 4.5 years. My motors never get "winterized" as I go down to La Crosse and fish walleyes with my Dad in the winter months. No problems yet. Although its an injected engine, if it were premix, I'd still stick with the MFG recommended mix ratios, I just think Amsoil is better oil.

BTW, I use it in my trucks too.

Please understand I am not trying to be offensive here. The Amsoil products we are talking about, are recommended to be mixed at 100:1. otherwise it would not say 100:1 (Saber professional, and Amsoil outboard). That is fine if you think that it needs to be mixed at the Equipment MFG rate this is your opinion, I will stick to the facts. My point is Amsoil, makes the product, obviously, they have tested this theory and made it possible to run it so lean, they would not be in business if everybodies machines were blowing up.

No worries, you have to try harder to get under my skin. Its your equipemnt, run it as you seefit. You asked for opinions, I gave you mine. I do believe in Amsoil and think it is an outstanding product, I am not ready to trust their testing in my motors and go 100:1. I just run their synthetic 2 cycle oil that matches the mixture for my MFG recommendations.
