nofishfisherman
We had 4th down with 2 yards to go and what is the play call? A deep pass into double coverage...What were they thinking. Johnson hasn't thrown a good deep ball yet this year. They are all off target with alot of air under them. When the game is on the line I don't want them to be throwing into double coverage when all they need is 2 yards. The vikes did the same thing in week 1, only that time it was a deep ball to Klienssaser on a short 3rd down play. They missed on that play as well and had to punt.I want to know if this was a Brad Johnson decision or a Childress decision. All I know is one of them blew it and they are both supposed to be smart guys that don't make mistakes but thats atleast one.
fisherman
Forgot to mention the run on 3rd and 7-8 Vikes D looks great. Offense is absolutely dreadful. Thought Childress would be better with the O... I'm not a fan of Brad C. from what I've seen so far.
buzzsaw
Quote:What were they thinking. Johnson hasn't thrown a good deep ball yet this year Sorry, you must have been taking a leak when he lobbed that 36 yard pass down the sideline to Chester taylor on their first drive of the game.... 36 yards qualifies right? I get your point though, not many deep connections... better bring in the trouble maker Porter to stretch the field.
ozzie
Would you rather have Tice back??? Childress gives us a chance at least......The offense does not have a star on the squad to dominate for them. This will be a problem all year but good defenses have won championships with so-so offenses....Maybe our offense will get to that so-so status!!!! nofishfisherman
The vikes have connected on the odd long ball here or there but even a blind dog find a bone on occasion.I don't have a huge problem with them not being able to throw the deeper balls but I have a problem trying to when the game is on the line and when there is double coverage. The old vikes made the deep ball a high percentage play with these vikes its as low percentage as you can get. I'd rather see Longwell line up for a 65 yard field goal then see johnson throw a 40 yd pass into two defenders when you know if you miss it the game is over. buzzsaw
I wasn't overly happy with that call either, but if it hits... man are we all happy! And Childress and Johnson are heroes! I'm past this loss already, we have been criticizing our offense, but remember the incredible defenses that we've played.... we have some less than great defenses coming around soon enough, wait a few months and then pass judgement... I'm pretty sure SF, GB, AZ, DET, NYJ and the Rams won't be able to hold us to under 20 points.
nofishfisherman
I don't mind scoring fewer points, one point more then the defense allows will be plenty. I just want the team to make good decisions and there have been a few bad ones.
eyepatrol
I hated the decision that was made, no matter which person decided it. Two yards to get a first down....all you need is a fieldgoal to tie, which in their situation was another 30 yards or so. Get the first down. I think they even had a timeout left if I remember (didn't get to watch too closely).
nofishfisherman
yeah they had one timeout left.
Stratosman
Stupid call sure..But is sure nice to see defense again in MN. I am a big fan so far of the new coaching staff, I will take defense over offense more times than not. If it were not for that fumble, it's a Mn victory.Pass defense needs a bit of work though it seems. I'll hold back further comments on the coaching staff until a bit later in the season, but so far, I like.
96trigger
Not sure how to reply withoug sounding cynical. First off, the strib explains that it was Chili's call for the deep ball if Williamson was single covered. He was, but the ball floated so long that the safety was able to make it over. I have mixed feelings about the coaches. Defense is awesome. Love Tomlin, he's doing a pretty good job. The offense is not as good, we should be concerned. I think the offensive line looks absolutely horrible for the amount of money that we are paying for it. McKinney is really stinking up the place. Don't believe me? On any series watch, him, or better yet, when the other teams D makes a big play, see who's guy makes the tackle. It must have been his 8 to 10 times against the bears. I know that they are going to get beat sometimes, but come on, not to mention last weeks failure to adjust to J. Peppers. Don't get me wrong, not a band wagoner, but the offense really looks bad. I like the way Childress keeps his word and is focused on getting wins from good people, but I'm not sold on his play calling. I'm sure thats what we all want, but for how long if the team still fails to produce? Go Vikings
buzzsaw
I was at the game and was watching the bears lining up wide on McKinnie and it was all he could do to get outside and block the DE. He is having a very so so year at best.
bottomdweller
Man Im still feeling sick from the loss!!!!! The fourth and two was bad, but I think the third and eight run was just a pathetic call. You have to try for a first down and the percentage of eight yard runs are not good against the bears. I thought denny was still coaching for a minute. The D was good but they choked when the game was on the line. Im sorry the bears offense is not that great so we still have room for improvement especially on passing coverage. I still think we will make the playoffs though. And it is Childresses first year. Hopefully we will take the bears at theyre stadium and even it up.
Stratosman
I agree McKinnie is a total bust....I was watching him pretty close and a fast d-end on him is no match without help from the backfield. I'd think he'd be better suited as a guard or tackle. Not at the most critical position on the O-line...
greebs
I'd also throw in that with the game on the line, Williamson is not the receiver to throw to. He's still too green and drops too many to be counted on in that situation.
