Motor Oil worm

Wayne Ek

Recommended Posts

This is kind of a survey. Deitz and I fished together for 2 days this week. When we would rig, I would fish a 7" Berkley motor oil worm, sickle tail. Now I got lots of fish on that worm, but lots of flack grin.gif from the Deitz man. So I was wondering who else uses motor oil worms. Or am I the odd man out.

Sluggo's absolutely right on that one.

Motor Oil down south is like Red Shad here. I have Motor oil colors in my box, but I rarely throw them. That and Purple or Grape were the primary colors when I grew up in Georgia. We used to use them exclusively at night on Reserviors like Westpoint, Weiss, and Seminole.

I have a few bags of the Berkley Powerworms in motor oil. It's been awhile since I used that color, but I have had decent results using motor oil as compared to using pumpkinseed, or purple/black, which have always worked well for me.

This was quite the topic the last few days between Wayne and I... While he was throwing MotorOil.. I was throwing Green Pumpkin(a color I think is pretty near) Or junebug, or redshad...

To be honest, I do not own a motoroil piece of plastic, and never have... However, I do see they catch fish!... If you woule like to see Waynes and my trip..

Motor oil is one of my favorites. I was just up in the Woman Lake Area from Sunday through today and caught a bunch of bass on 7 inch motor oil worms. I ended up running out of the color and will have to buy more before I go back up. My box hasn't been void of motor oil for many years! It has been the best morning and daytime color for me over the past few years with tequila sunrise or purple being my evening and nighttime choice.

I'll have to back you on your choice of color completely.

Maybe its an alex area thing, but i throw motor oil worms all the time on those lakes both t-rigged and on a jigworm. went through 2 bags of them last weekend alone. I also like the motor oil tubes.

I use both the Berkley 7" motor oil worm and Productos 7" tournement worms. The Producto works great hooked weedless and used like a jerkbait. Motor oil worms are my goto bait.

I agree with Doufish2. The Producto motor oil worms have been a favorite of mine since the mid-eighties. It's a great bulky but soft worm.

Doufish2, yes I still hit the Wen and Tues night leagues. But with all the quide trips and bigger tournaments I only make about half of the nights. Sorry for the late reply, I was up on Pokagama for the BassMasters Series... I donated again frown.gif

I like the change they made going to different lakes instead of just the chain. Too many ppl thought that a certain area was their spot on the chain and you better not be in it. Have not fished it for a couple of years but it was a good league to fish in. I see that Putty is back in town.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
