Nils Master results

With the hard water season winding down I'm looking around for sales on a new auger. Two of my friends have the Nils and experienced a ton of trouble with them this winter. Mostly starting and keeping them running. Any thoughts or comments?

Only comment I have is I love my Nils! Runs great and is fast and super light.

If your friends have problems have them contact J.P. at Nilsmaster and he will take care of them. J.P. is great to work with and does what he can to cure whatever illness your Nils may have.

I couldn't agree with Northlander more. I have run a Nils the last two seasons and never once did I have an issues with the motor.

I bought a Nils this year and love it! A bunch of friends have tried it and can't believe how fast and light it is. The thing I have noticed is that it needs to be warm for it to run properly. When I bought mine, I ran a tank of gas through it before I hit the ice. I am on my second tank and every time it runs, it gets faster. This is on a 50:1 oil, I will be trying the Amsoil Sabre next year. The blades are very sharp and need to be treated carefully, but it was money well spent in my book. Good luck.

I think the nils is the best auger out there. I had an issue with mine not cutting properly, however it was discovered that somehow the shute got bent in shipping. My fault as I should have checked that first, as the box had a big crush mark on it. JP sent out a new shute and that thing cutts through 24 inches of ice lightning fast. Starts and runs better than any auger I have owned. 1 pull to pop and 1 pull to start. My buddies love using it. Hell, half the time they don't even bring there augers. LOL

Just an added note: Like budda said, it does need to warm up for 20-30 seconds jsut like most augers, plus I have used about 4 tanks of fuel "thats a lot of holes" and it just keeps getting faster and stronger. I am running amsoil so very little smoke. O, did I mention how light it is? Can ya tell I like Nils.

all I know is this... I have a Jiffy.. and let me first say.. I love my Jiffy.. LOVE IT!.. starts great, drills great. ect.. Paul W. and I fished a few days together last week... We had a few auger races.. and he put a woopin on me... one handed he wooped up on me. Nothing wrong with my jiff.. but that nills is something else.

I went with a strikemaster and was also very happy with the 10 year old jiffy I was using. Nils does have a very good auger. Adam

The thing about the FM staff is they use the products and test them. So they have first hand knowledge of the product not just what someone has told them, read, or they over heard.

First: Having engine starting & running problems with a Tanaka engine sounds like operator problem to me. I have a friend in the construction business that uses a lot of gas engine powered tools and loves Tanaka engines. They are built to much stricter and tighter tolerances than others, but they need to be broken in before using them. I ran a tank of fuel before using.

Second: I have also seen and heard of problems with the other 2 brands. Does that make them a poor auger.I think not. It's just the nils has some definite advantages over the others.

Third: I am not a staff member and have no reason what so ever to endorse what I believe to be a superior auger.

Fourth: I had a damaged shute due to shipping and I can tell you that JP was as quick on service as any one could have been , no questions asked. Didn't even charge me for the new chute while waiting for his damaged one to be returned. Great service in my book.

ALthough Nils is not local their service is excellant and very quick. My power head got cracked during shipping. New one was on it's way the next day. No cost to me and no hassles at all.

I also thought I had a problem with my Nils. However, after running a couple tanks of gas through it I wouldn't trade it for anything because I do a lot of run-n-gun ice fishing.

Their motor is a commercial model not a consumer model like all the others and designed to more exacting standards. Very tight tolerances and a little longer break in period is needed.

They are very light, cut a ton of holes per tank of gas and do it faster than any other standard model out there that I've seen. They do cost more as well.

If a product is not good I won't say anything. If it's good I will let you know, sponsor or not. Just like Jiffy and Strikemaster make excellant choices for augers as well. They all have their place where they shine above the other.

You just have to decide which one fits how you ice fish the best.

What is the total weight for a Nilsmaster?

My Strikemaster Lazer mag Express is 24lbs, looks like it will get sold next season for a Nils, I need to shave all the weight I can.

Another nice thing about the Nils is that the shaft is 5-6 inches longer than Jiffy or Strikemaster. I have never had to put an extension on mine

I have never had to use a extention either.

Anyone who may question if we get things free and then post about how good they are need not worry. I paid for my auger as I do all my equipment. I will post about things I believe in and Nils happens to be one of them.

Its the lightest, fastest, longest auger out there. In the long run I think it all just about evens out. Money saved not needing a extension, great fuel economy and the blades go for a long long time. 2 Seasons on my 1st set and I drill a ton of holes.

I love my Jiffy's but I might have to lay it down next year for a Nils. They are a great looking auger. I probably would already have one if the had it in a 9" or bigger hole. I like fishing larger holes so Jiffy has been the way for me but that Nils might get me to change I have yet to hear anyone bad mouth them so the have to be pretty darn good.

I own a 6" and 8" nils hand auger and absolutely love them. My buddy has a 8" nils power auger and that thing is jsut insane. Its deffiently my next big purchase Item

Based on all the good things I read here about the Nils, I sprung for one this year. Just like everyone says, it cuts fast runs great, is very light, converts to a hand auger. What more could you ask for?
