$250 for a pair of pants?

Dave1

Question

Can someone tell me what makes a pair of snow pants worth 250 bucks?

Saw some at a local sporting goods warehouse. A thin layer of foam rubber for insulation, basic nylon shell, a couple straps.....I couldn't figure out what they were supposed to do. 250 bucks.

Anyone know who makes a low cost alternative and where I can get them?

Thanks.

If they were Gore-tex then they might not be that far out of line. Still a bit high but if done with all top notch materials I could see it. Or they might just have some trendy name on them too, waiting for some Volvo driving soccer mom to pick them up.

Cabelas sell some great GorTex bibs a lot cheaper!

Carhart bibs are also great for fishing and hunting and will last you for years!

If you are looking for ski type snow pants, check out Mills Clothing. My wife picked up a pair of very well made bibs there for me on sale for only $22.00 !! grin.gif

Now wait a minute Cliff!! When you pop for a new suit for work or play, it's gonna knock ya back $800-$1500 bucks right? So...there ya go. If you buy a low end gray pinstripe/shadow, for about $800, a cheap one like a guide would wear, its gonna work out to $600 for the coat and $250 for the pants. And thats just a start.Toss in $75 for a dress shirt and probably $50 for a decent tie. Add another $250 for a pair of Allan Edmonds wing tips and you see where all those big tips from clients go!

Its all in how you look at these things. Since its twenty below at my cabin down here I'm guessing its thirty below along the lake there.

You can call me cheap Ufatz, but I would never spend the amount of money you suggest for a suit , shirt, tie and shoes. that amount of Dollars, when you add it up would make a good dent in the price of a 4-wheeler or a second car. 1500, 250, 75 and 50, you forgot the matching socks, 15 = 1890 dollars. wink.gifwink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

Yeah, you're right. It would pay for half of a decent side-by-side 20 guage. Or one nice Leonard 7' fly rod. Or a new 8-hp Yamaha kicket. You guys wanna talk nonsense....what is it with $3000 kicker motors!? HA!

It all depends how important it is to you. I would have no problem paying that or more if they were something I valued. I am a skier. I wear the gear a lot. I have skis that run 1200 bucks. Boots 600. Poles 100, etc... I also have expensive bibs. There is cheaper gear available. When you spend good money on a nice rod/reel set-up...(often more than one)well, you could get the Rapala combo featured in the Sunday paper, right? (My ski-buddies certainly would say this) And no, you cant go skiing in Carhartt bibs! (But they are awesome for other things)

By the way, Gore-tex is a waste of money folks! But that is a whole 'nother ball of wax...

Actually, I used to wear a Carhartt hunting jacket as a warm-up before the races!

My favorite sight is after the Stock Show in Denver. Steamboat Resort offers free skiing to the guys if they wear their chaps and ten-gallons. Quite a sight.
