shamalex72
Has anyone else noticed the amount of advertising in this magazine? Out of 128 pages of the copy I received today, at least 70 of them had an advertisement on it. Most of which were full page ads. I know they need to put them in there, but why so many? Bass_Bully
Yeah, I hear ya. I cancelled mine a couple of years ago and got a new subscription for Christmas this past year. Plus, a lot of the info doesn't relate to MN fishing.
LEECH21
You must be talking about the multi-species issue. I noticed this trend starting a few years back now with In-fish. They still have awesome info but all the adds do get old. Check out North American Fisherman Magazine. It too is based out of Minnesota. I like this mag even better than In-fish. NEANGLER
Also the price of the magazine has gone up but the information and the THICKNESS(amount of info) has drasticially reduced over the years. Goes along with their fishing show as Angling edge has only 2 segements in their show and go more in depth than IF plus IF seems to go out with guides more often and promote them and the gear a whole lot more. CrappieJohn
Crappie magazine is one that really lays it on heavy in the southern states. Would it be fun to see those boys up here. The advertising in this rag gets ridiculous as well. Get a copy home, open it up upside down by the two covers and shake over the round file, then you are ready to read it. Another problem in some of these mags is the very general content of the articles. Seems more and more it is the same old, same old , just re-written. At least some of the pics change. Down Deep
All the fishing magazines seem to have gone the same direction. Currently I don't subscribe to any of them. FM and a couple of other fishing related sites I visit provide just about all the information I need. It's amazing the amount of collective information that exist here. FM_Mike
I believe that most of these issues started when the Linders sold there interest in the magazine to Prime Media a few years back. Now the issues seem to be less detailed and as said above filled with more advertising than articles. I believe that this is why the Linders have started there own show now know as the Edge. Although I still learn great information from both the show and the Magazine there is much less information than there was 6 or 7 years ago. I guess all things go the way of the Dollar. eyepatrol
I'd have to agree pretty much with what's being said here. I get IF at home and it's flat out chuck-full of advertisements. The bad thing is...I sometimes find myself more interested in the ad's than I do the articles. A mag should be more about the articles than the ads. The IF show is getting to be more of an ad too, and it does seem that they more often than not are using guides on their trips. I see less and less walleye and pannie fishing shows on IF now days than when the Lindners were there. That's why I prefer to watch the Edge. Al, Ron, James and the boys still keep on telling you the situations, tactics, locations, etc. just like they did all those years past, and THAT'S what I'm looking for. I'll probably be canceling my IF subscription pretty soon. I just don't pick it up and read it as very few items interest me anymore.
ewirz
After the Linder's were bought out a few years back, I really didn't like the direct the magazine went. Way too many ads.
porterhouse
I agree!!! To many ads and very little new info. I stop getting in-fish 2 years ago.Brian

zelek
All I know is that if Doug Stange ever leaves this publication I'd probably be gone as well. I've enjoyed and learned much from his articles over the years. The ads don't bother me too much. I have considered cancelling my subscription, but I guess it's really not that expensive so I'll keep getting them. I'd hate to miss out on one of those really good articles I refer back to often--feature writer Bruce Carlson comes to mind.
snatcher20
Two points1. It's easy reading while taking care of business in the bathroom. Plus there is only so much you can write about catching walleyes.2. I think my subscription costs about $12/year. Take out the ads and each issue would cost $12. It's cheap entertainment. Kevin Turner
I might be a bit biased, but I enjoy scanning the ads. Helps me learn what's going on the fishn' world.
OldBear
I keep telling my self don't renew. The magazine would be really thin if the ads were taken out. Well after my last chance issue they sent an offer of $20 for two years which I took. At that price I won't complain. Steve
TurnUpTheFishing
Im gonna go the other direction and say I love In-fisherman, adds and all. It sounds like some of the people expect In-fisherman to send them a book each month. I also get several magazines that apply to other hobbies and Ive heard people complaining about the adds in them, too. It seems to be the direction most magazines are going. It costs money to make magazines, they dont make there profits from the $15 subscription, its from the advertisments.Infisherman usually puts an article that applies to each major specie in each issue and unless Im seriously out of the loop, most contain great information. NEANGLER
I think the magazine has become like the T.V. show - short with not near as much info as before. The magazine used to be a lot more informative more articles than it does now - just like the show. More ads for guides and gear, just like the show. Both are still good but ever since the Linders were no longer involved it has taken a downward slide. Look at Angling Edge - much more info than IF and better produced. I will still get the magazine though since it is the best still going compared to others.
hip_hop_fisherman
$12 a year to keep up to date with new products, and even get some good fishing info, I'm not going to complain. EVERYTHING is advertisments now a days. It used to get me PO'd but I've become used to it now.

Tony Boshold
It seems to me they are still at the leading edge of the In-formation for fisherman. They have way more indepth new info that comes form biologist types with real credibility. The thing I also don't like that has been eluded to here is that they seem to try to divert your attention to "learn more check out our video or book with all the details." They are trying to sell you their library which has some of the best info you can get. They really have done all the homework and let it all hang out for us all to enjoy and take advantage of. The best part is the fish have not read the books or seen the videos so they don't know where they are supposed to be. But they are always where they are supposed to be, the books and videos don't lie. They have positioned themselves as the authority on freshwater fishing. I don't think they are selling anyone short. They always come thru with breakthru technology that you read about in all the other magazines and websites over the following year. I cancelled all the others to keep them. I really don't mind the adds they keep the magazine afloat. If you really want to get to them, cancel your subscriptions. They get more $ for advertising because of the gauranteed # of copies getting into the hands of people who want the info. Without subscriptions they won't get the advertisers like they do now. Even though some of the articles are rehashes of "old hand" to some of us, the other publications are all playing catch up and trying to emulate IN-Fisherman. The rahashed articles might remind some of us of tactics we "forgot" about. Not to mention they are reaching many anglers for the first time. They use a system for writing their articles and videoes that always makes sense out of it. F(fish)+L(location)+P(presentation)=S(sucess). Many outdoor writers adapt this style into their own because it works. In-Fisherman starts with "fundamentals" and continues thru to "critical concepts". I for one have learned alot from them since those early days. May not be like it used to but still some great info. They are more like finding gems in the rough now. The one thing I can't stand hearing is someone complain that they read it and don't learn anything (know it all). Knowing something and using it to our advantage are two different things.
