Does anyone own an Ice Armor Suit?

I have this suit purchased this year, the pants are comfortable and mobile, the padded knees are nice when playing on the ice( many times I just kneel over the hole) they are extremely warm and have ample storage. the jacket gets warm when layered ( I usually wear long john shirt,t-shirt, hooded sweatshirt.) If I am on the ice on a cold day I stay warm, inside the flipover I take the jacket off.

Hope that helps, I picked mine up for $250

I just got one and I LOVE it! Finally someone made a suit for ice fishing. Padded knees and seat, lot's of D rings and cargo pockets, hand warming pockets in both the bibs and jacket, waterproof, etc....

I liked my Carhartt bibs, but they are not even in the same legue as these suits.

Two thumbs up.

As a long-time owner of Lindy Tackle who treats quite a number of high profile fishing personalities as patients, I get a fair amount of "insider" info on various "tools" of the fishing industry.

I am very pleased with my retail purchase of the Ice Armor fishing suit. To date, it has exceeded my outside fishing expectations.

I have to agree with the previous posts, this Jacket/Bib combo is just plain great for an ice fishing enthusiast. Well worth the money. And just as these clothes has done for Dr. Kehr, it has done the same for myself. Being on the ice 5 or more days a week, I fish in comfort in this blue suit!!! grin.gif

I also have the Suit and really like it. Yesterday I spent alot of time on my knees Ice Fishing - going from hole to hole. They have padded knees and are really warm when you kneel on them. The rest of the suit is perfect. Lots of pockets, etc. I wear fleece underneath in layers and also have a neck gaitor on when it's cooler outside. The neck gaitor really keeps the heat trapped inside your body. The Ice Armor is well worth the money. The Ice Armor gloves work well to. I grabbed into the water for a few walleyes and they never leaked. Bruce Mosher

I also have a the Ice Armor outfit and have been VERY happy I got them. The question is, "How comfortable do you want to be on the ice when you are dealing with freezing temps and windy conditions?"

This outfit will stand up to both of those tests.

We are always willing to shell out extra $$ to have the best augers, flashers, houses, heaters on the market but when a company puts out an excellent product, like the Ice Armor suit, we are hestitate to buy it.

As I (and you) read more posts about the suit, it is gaining popularity not because of it's color but because of it's functionality and features (many pockets, warmth, padded knees and seat to name a few)!

SO don't be afraid of a price tag. I guarentee you'll be happy you spent the money... where you ever disappointed when you spent the extra $$$ on that auger or depth finder or fish house grin.gif

Great suits no doubt. I just wish I could get it in another color. I dont want to be fishing with Jim on the big lake and look like a tall and short smurf out there. grin.gifgrin.gif

Black and Red would be hot! If they do come out with different colors I may think about putting the Carhart Extremes to rest but not until then.

I wish they would make a hybrid suit. Say an Ice Armor suit with either a Stearn Float Coat or Mustang Survival Coat protection. It seems to me that if you are going to make an ice suit, it ought to have some type of floatation in it for protection. I do hear these are good suits.

Northlander,

I don't think you will see them in different colors. I'm sure Clam put a LOT of money into brand recognition which goes along with the blue color.

I did not like the thought of looking like the other guys on the ice, but I got to thinking that sometimes blending in has some advantages. grin.gif "Hey...let's go fish by Northlander. Which one is Northlander?" smirk.gif

They are semi-insulated, but are designed more so for a layering process. Eliminates the bulkiness that some extreme winter jackets and bibs are known for. Usually, I layer with a fleece pullover and a mid weight base and a fleece pants and a mid weight base. If the temps are extreme, my base layer will be silk weight along with a expedition weight top and bottom topped with the fleece then the Ice Armor. With either of the two set-ups, a person could fish in any eliminate and be comfortable.

The material used is called Tactel that is a nylon oxford shell similar to GoreTex. Also, Ice Armor is windproof, waterproof, and has a great lining!!

I think I know the answer as to why you can't get an ice fishing jacket with a built in life preserver. The certification process (from whatever agency grants it) is difficult at best. I once toured the Stearns Manufacturing facility in Sauk Rapids and was surprised by the amount of red tape required to get a life jacket certified.

I suspect that all this red tape is probably the biggest reason why the various fishing / hunting clothing manufacturer's do not offer a life preserver option.

So that being the case, I wear a full jacket style Stearns life preserver year round when fishing. It is surprisingly warm, too, but doesn't have the other nice features of Ice Armour.

You can get some good deals on them. Thorne Bros. has 10% off all their ice armor right now. You can also wait until the end of the year. I have seen them as low as $199.99. I have one, but have yet to use it with no ice in my area.

I have yet to even pull the house out of the truck. While guiding I set clients up in their house and I stay outside working over holes to find the next hot spot. I have even been kneeling in slush the last couple of times out and still don't get wet and cold knees. They have become as important as electronics to me during ice fishing. I can't imagine going without them.

Also, I used mine last open water tournament season in the spring and fall tournaments. Not just for ice fishing. They cut that early spring wind and rain way out of your fishing. And a friend of mine wore his bibs in the deer stand two years ago.

I also own one of these suits, and love it. the only problem with it is, is that I took my wife fishing last weekend and let her use it, and I used the old carharts. Needless to say after a few fish my knees were wet and she was warm and dry. Now I might not get it back if she goes again. I may have to purchase another one just so I can wear it.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
