No wonder I broke off...

Both I Da Man & Fisher Dave watched me snap 50lb Power Pro last summer on 2 different flattie runs on the same night. FD later caught one of them and it had my hook, line, and swivel in its mouth. That flattie went 35lbs.

Anyhow, I was cruising the bass forum (don't ask please) and found this recommendation from Deitz on rod & reel combos...

Slop Rods All baitcasting

7’ MH 50lb Power Pro, Scum frog rod.

7’ MH 50lb Power Pro, Deitz Rig(I’ll explain some other time), Jig and Pig sometimes

7’6” Flipping stick, 65lb power pro, Jig and pig rod.

Again, multiple of these rods…

For crying out loud, the bass guys are using 50-65lb PP to catch 4-6lb fish. No wonder that 35lb flattie snapped 50lb PP. grin.gifwink.gif

(Disclaimer: Settle down ya'll. Just meant in good fun!!!)

Ripp'en on the bass guys Hanson!!! I love it!

Now just pick on the golfers a bit and we'll be BEST friends for life!!!!

(how do you make an Instant Graemlin that shows you're just having fun with the bass guys and the golfers?)

I'm not trying to be an idiot or anything. grin.gif

Remember...a 4-6 lb bass wrapped up in 27 lbs of milfoil is pretty tough to lift over the side of the ol Ranger. Can't blame the bass boys for trying to fit a power pro patch on the shirt toook.gif

LOL @ you guys.. you crack me up!!!! grin.gif

Here is the deal with the braid line, you fish it for its diam, not its actual strenght. If you use a lighter lb braid it will cut into itself and you end up backlashing. Now you kitty cat boys wouldnt know much about that becuase you only cast 3-4 times a night. blush.gif

Dark- Patches?, we dont need no stinking Patches!!!!!

I dont like patches, they scratch my skin.. Embroidery all the way! wink.gif

Ummmm....YOU fish it for it's diam...I fish it for it's strenght! smirk.gif

Personally, I'm getting better at fishing...and try not to cast that many times. There was a time with I did cast that much.

My sister took me out for dinner once (she was buttering me up for something). It was on the west coast and Sea Bass was the special. I figured I could get over the name and enjoy it...but....

When it came it looked like a largemouth in a bed of milfoil.

Don't worry, although it looked like a largemouth, it tasted good. blush.gif

I'm just learning from the best! grin.gif

I must be doing something right to get Deitz to pop into the cat forum.

hanson.. you give these bass guys way too much credit.. 4-6 pounds? I think I seen that show too.. it was a lake in Florida that started with an *O*. Once in a while these guys get a big one here.. but most of those things are comperable to our bait.

Now the comment on casting 4 times per outing and not worrying about a backlash? These guys have never fished around me. I could probably cast their *best casting* bass rig 70 yards with pinpoint accuracy.. not to mention rip a fish out of that hole with the same line, or even less than what they are using.

I think that same swow they were fishing for *Brim* with ultralight gear.. 8 lb test with 2000 series reels and medium action rods.

Its hard to believe, but cat gear can be way more specialized than bass gear. The terminal tackle is no where near as demanding(and cheaper).. but if you think you can go out and efficiently catch fish on any pool cue with a string attatched.. you are going to be dissapointed.

Bass are too easy.

Jeez dont hurt your arm patting yourself on the back there That Guy..... grin.gif

Besides us river Bassers catch your lowly bottom feeding catfish blush.gifgrin.gif by mistake everyonce ina while and I dont think there that tough....... the 30+ pound flatties taste wonderful steamed with butter anyway blush.gifgrin.gif And it only takes one a week to feed the whole family..... 52 weeks a year.... well you do the math blush.gifblush.gifblush.gifgrin.gif

Sorry I had to

Hanson, I thought you knew!? Deitz is a closet catman!

River Rat, I've never cooked a 30 lbs flatty. Is it true that the mercury make the fins pop out when it's done? shocked.gif

I should have put a disclaimer in there that I was just horsing around for the casual cat forum browser. It's easy to forget that other people read my talk too and think I'm serious. smirk.gif

I told a couple guys a joke today and I "think" they thought it was truth rather than just a funny. Awe shucks, this is the cat forum...here's the joke.

After dinner last night, my wife told me to take out the garbage. I looked at her and said "you cooked it, you take it out."

They both got kinda quiet for a moment... Had I really said that to my wife, I would have a brand new cast iron hat today! grin.gif

You ought to try those lake bred largemouth for cutbait, I couldnt decide between those and walleye for a better cutbait blush.gif

And I dont know what fishhead is talking about we've all seen him Bassin on the Miss on numerous occassions, shoot last time he was out he was talking to KT about a lopro with purty carpet and all, blush.gif so he could chase a true gamefish in style grin.gif

And I DA we know this is all in good fun I would never take offense to something you cat men would say anyway, after all your brains have been clouded with years and years of stinkbaits, chicken livers and what ever else it is you feed those god awful kitties blush.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

By the way Im really bored and its winter so lets all have a little fun grin.gif

RR- I think your on to something there, years and years of sniffen stick bait can really mess some people up! Then add to that the brain cells that were lost do to adult beverage cunsumption waiting for a bite.

Its all starting to add up!

we bass dudes only have one problem... we spend way to dang much moolah chasing a fish that we never keep!

That Guy- Do I smell a casting contest?

Ok I stumbled into this but I need to put in my two cents.

Some of you know I have gained a new respect and desire for catting but I think these bass guys are secretly musky hunters trying to come out of their shell.

Musky sized rod with Musky sized line casting under docks where they seen Musky?

bass guy ~ "Oh those dang musky, hooked into one today that about ripped my arm off" " I REALLY HATE THOSE THINGS" Then they show you all the pictures they took holding the Musky with a big smile. It's ok, if I can admit I like catfishing they can admit they like Musky. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Jon Jon Jon..... where do I begin, just because we catch the occasional trash fish ex. Musky, Cat, Walleye does not mean we enjoy it, and just because I caught a musky on Sugar lake while fishing for another trash fish (walleye) and have been back to Sugar lake 6 times looking for........ errrrrrrr...... Bass yeah thats what I was fishing for, DOESN'T mean I enjoyed it, in fact I would have been way better off not ever catching that stupid Musky, smirk.gif

thats my 2 cents

And if Fishhead ever tries to lie about me trying to hookup with him this last fall on a guide trip for Flatties on the Minnesota, its a flat out lie blush.gifgrin.gif

Wait a minute. I was talking about a Low Pro withOUT carpet.

A boat with carpet is a pleasure craft, not a fishing boat! wink.gif

Don't you know they put the carpet in the boat, just so the wife will let you buy it!

And while it may be true that I don't mind the smell of rotting fish, and it may have gone to my head over the years,

I still know there is a big difference between a green carp and a bronze bull! grin.gif

You guys are waaaayyyy too narrow minded!

I'm a cat guy, just two years old by trade...but still a cat guy. However I don't mind Mushies, bass or walleye...'cause bait shops don't always have 12 inch suckers for fathead bait.

Dennis, did you ever get that mooneye out from under your pickup seat last year?

(note to friendly CO, I was JUST KIDDING!)

Any day of the week with our *every day* fishing rods.

You sure you want to hang your head in shame when a $35 glow in the dark piece of fiberglass makes your loomis look insignificant?

Anyone that can outcast me in overall distance, or accuracy at great distance.. I am more than happy to stoop to your level for a day and fish for a specie of choice in your place of choice.

If you lose.. you can come fish in my boat for an evening and see what your missing in the world of these illusive bottom dwellers.

I'll be fishing open water by the end of March.. better make sure your rigs are ready to go.

Hey I Da Man.. you still have that jar of stink bait laying around?

That Guy- I would dangle a line with you even if I did win... As I Da said, I am a bit off a closet cat dude... I have never targeted flatties...

However, I would be willing to hang my head if I lost a casting contest... I would consider myself more of an accuracy dude than a distance dude. But as Dennis knows, I am always up to a contest!

Ohh and FYI, I am a shimano dude.. not Loomis! grin.gif
