New Coach

Definitely someone from outside the organization, and I think ideally someone with at least some HEAD coaching experience. We also need a good O' coordinator here too. I didn't even like Linnehan all that much, but I'd take him back in a minute over what we have now (not as a head coach though as O-Coordinator again).

Stay away from Martz! That would tick me off. I'd be OK with Mariucci, or maybe Williams if we could pry him away from Washington. Beyond that, I'm not sure of any candidates I'd like to have...

Billick was given another year with the Ravens, so we don't need to worry about that over-rated poser getting the job here.

Jimmy Johnson has said he has no plans to return to coaching, and he just turned down the Texans job. He has two Super Bowl rings, a college national championship, and a cushy job on FOX, so I can believe him when he says he is done coaching.

The ESPN NFL crew thinks Jim Fassel will end up in Oakland, as he worked there in the past, and is a favorite of Al Davis. That is fine by me, as the highlight of Fassel's tenure with the Giants was beating the Vikings in the NFC championship game, and beating Denny Green in a big game does not require being a great coach.

I have not heard anyone mention Mike Martz (yet), but I am worried about that possibility. Martz reminds me way too much of Denny Green, in that both can organize an offense as well as anyone, but they can't make good game-time decisions, and have bloated egos.

Check this thread out, the third response, Martz is brought up.

Seriously, though like you, I have not heard much in the national media about Martz coming to Minnesota. In fact, one article I read had him headed more towards an offensive coordinator position than another head coaching job.

I'm courious on opions on who the vickes should look at for a new head coach?

i think one of the things people seem to forget is the assistants out there also. Gregg Williams, d cordinator out in washington, eagles offensive cordinator is anouther. bears defensive cordinator.

star and trib has a short little article kind of from players stating that a disciplinarian would be a better choice for a new coach..

i personaly would like to see a disciplinarian defensive minded coach. if you look at the good teams in the playoffs, all have coaches that where previous defensive cordinators. then they can go after a good offensive cordinator.

Williams is definately off of the market. He will be getting a good head coaches salary for being a coordinator.

I really hope we don't get Mooch. He tanked the 49'ers and the Lions. I don't know how much Martz will be coaching with his health the way it is.

Word in the Windy, is that Ron Rivera, defensive coach of the "soon to be" 2005 Championship Bears and player on the 1985 Championship Bears is looking to head up north for a ride on the "love boat". Hate to lose a quality guy like that if he goes but you have to let good coaches snag the top spots and there are plenty of those around now.

Let Ron win his second ring and then fit him for a purple and gold golf shirt though he will always bleed orange and blue as a "Monster of The Midway" kind of like Mike Singletary is doing now with the 49ers.

GO BEARS!

The more I think about the Williams deal, I willing to bet that they wrapped him up in Washington with the intention of him taking over once Gibbs decides to hang the coaching hat up again.

Windy, I think you meant to say 2006 Championship Bears. Its an easy mistake to make, as I usually go about a month writing 2005 on my checks, though now with automatic withdraw I don't have to write as many now. I think with Grossman back and if they bring in the defense completely healthy I think they may have a chance to get to the Super Bowl.

Rivera is definately a hot name out there as I've heard his name associated with more than 1 opening.

Nooooooooo!!! blush.gif ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that Mike Martz is one of the two top candidates for the Vikings head coaching job! mad.gif Why? Why? Why? Why? confused.gif This guy has a horrible game-management record, total contempt and indifference to special teams, little interest in defense, and a massive ego that led him to be forced out of St. Louis because he spent too much time fighting with the front office over control of football operations. Martz is very good at designing an offense, but he doesn't do so well when placed in charge of a team during a game. If this is what the Wilfs want, they should just re-hire Denny Green and be done with it.

Clayton doesn't know what he is talking about.

If he was a top candidate why wasn't he one of the first 2-3 guys interviewed?

I haven't heard anywhere else that he is getting an interview.

I bet he is just stating his opinion as a fact. Alot of sports guys do that.

What a perfect fit.. All MN fans want to see is the scoreboard light up. That was the key to the Moss era just outscore everyone and then when you can't score .. O well the D sucks and we have no O line and where are the special teams. I hope they can do better then that. I hope Wilf spends more time searching for a coach then in the time it took to fire Tice. And no I don't have anyone better in mind, but then I am just a fan and it's not my job smirk.gif

Found this on the KARE 11 HSOforum:

Several media outlets are reporting that the Minnesota Vikings are in contract talks with Brad Childress. The Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator met with Vikings officials on Tuesday and was scheduled to meet with the Packers on Wednesday, but his agent says that meeting didn't take place.

The Vikings will reportedly make an official announcement about their new coach on Friday.

Windy I am going to enjoy watching the Bears get bounced out of the play offs in their first and last game. Then we won't hear from you till open day of baseball, the only day your team will be in first place.... ooo.gifsmile.gifcool.gif

Bobby Bass,

What kind of boat do you have?

Would you like to put your boat where your mouth is on that prediction of the Sox being in first place on opening day only? Or maybe we could bet on number of wins next season for the Sox vs. the Twinks? Think about it and get back to me, you know, after the Bears get bounced out of the playoffs in their first game and before opening day on April 2nd, when you won't be hearing from me, you know, that time.

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

Ditto Bobby B,

Most forum moderators on the sports forums know that we are just big kids "havin some fun". We are all kids at heart and we go back to the smack talkin of our youth when we would argue for hours about one team or another. Here in the Windy, we had a built in arguement in baseball with the Northside Cubbies and the Southside Sox. Anyway, believe it or not I do have a boat and it is a walleye whacking machine. It is an 18 foot Lund with a 40 hp 4 stroke tiller. You have to admit, that is a Minnesota special! No gas guzzling cigar boat in this garage. I used to have a 24 foot tri-toon pontoon boat with a 90 hp but traded it in for the Lund. Anyway, I guess I have to say GO BEARS to counteract your curse you put on my beloved!!! LOL

I guess the proof is in the pudding and the somebody's pudding will be cooked on Sunday, only time will tell.

Later, Windy
