TIP works

I bet they're looking for a hall monitor at the local high school too.

I'd like to hear what that is supposed to mean. I am 100% for being the whistle blower when it comes to stealing from all of us. It is "OUR" natural resourse.

Did you get caught doing something wrong?

As a land owner in SD, I've had 10 times more problems with game wardens and our GFandP than I ever have with anyone poaching a deer or fishing. They've never persued a single trespass or gate left open. All they do is shut down our predator control options, limit the deer licenses causing overpopulation and distruction of my property, and then offer a pittance for someone to turn someone in for revenue to build their burocracy. Oh and by the way no I haven't been caught doing something wrong. I just provide the land, grass, water, and feed for how BDR put it "our natural resource" for free.

Is your land posted or unposted? Whats worked on my family and friends land to keep the critters away is to hunt the krap out of it. Nothing keeps the animals out like good old fashioned pressure. However, I do understand your feelings if you are having idi0ts leaving gates open, maybe you just need a higher class of hunter? Start charging people to hunt, nothing brings them in like making them pay for it!

Sounds like Waterbeater is a tad disgruntled, instead of [PoorWordUsage]ing on someone for doing the right thing and playing your violin for all of us to hear, do something about it. What predator options did they take away, poisoning?

I see someone break a game and fish law. I will turn them in, reward or not. It is those kind of people that not only take from law-abiding folks, but give all hunters bad names, provide fuel for the anti-hunting agenda's and cause land owners to allow less and less access to their properties. Look at the bigger picture man, not just the one in your little world.

I just received my reward check from a TIP call I made on the deer opener. It was nice to get money but not as nice as seeing people get caught breaking the law.

I did not even know that they sent a reward. Nice to know that the call that you made was followed up and resulted in prosecution! I have always stayed within the rules and always left a place cleaner than it was when I got there. Sorry to hear that you are having problems on your land waterbeater… hope that works out for you. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

I am 100% behind our DNR department and letting them know if there has been a violation of law with hunting/fishing. We've had great success with our TIP program in Minnesota. To bad there aren't enough officer's in the field to stop all the other stuff we don't know about that is going on.

Thanks for those that report into the DNR or pay attention to the small details when others are telling 'fishy' tales. Helping our resources is much appreciated!

Waterbeater, so your bad experience justifies a "whinney" response about a TIP call actually working? What are you doing to get some changes made that will help your cause? I guess this is the best thing you could come up with huh.

The purpose of the TIP program is to get fellow sportsmen involved in helping protect the resources by having more eye's and ears out there, sounds like a pretty good option to me.

Easy boys. Waterbeater's perception is his reality. Just like ours. The state very often does not make it easy on land owners (especially if they have a slight anti-establishment attitude to them) but by the same token, land owners rarely have to hunt over trampled state land, frequently used by morons that the TIP program is designed to bust. And if they do, they don't care; they've got their own lot. Land owners expect to be the master of their property, and here comes a warden of the state walking along their property with license to go virtually anywhere at any time. Kind of lame, you must admit. But by the same token, owners of big spreads of land (and often small ones) lose scope of what it takes to manage our resources in a way that is equitable to everyone. Waterbeater sounds like maybe his axe isn't quite yet ground down to the fine edge, but the experience of landowners can be radically different than those of the rest of us.

/Wildly pro-DNR by the way.

I love it when tip is called as a matter of fact ive called them on a few(allot)of illegal walleye poachers in Prescott sometimes I will go out there just to see if the criminals are active. but besides the fact.... as a sportsman I could NEVER except a reward regardless its just more money taken away from the resource im trying to protect so a $$$amount handed to me would just feel like a failure in the system..

just my 2 pennies

Chances are that these guys went back to Indiana and no one there even knows that they are poachers! Maybe we should all send a copy of the DNR news release to their local newspaper! The Columbus IN paper is called The Republic.

Greetings everyone!

I kind of sit on both sides of the fence here. While I completely agree with TIP programs and such and support them 100%, I also have called in a few people and have been told that there are no CO's in the area. Minnesota is lucky to have the vast amounts of natural resources that we do. Living in northern IL for a while I know what it's like to have a lack thereof. Funding is a big problem and when state budgets are consistently being cut, Law enforcement seems to get the axe. Where we hunt, we have a very good relationship with the CO's and encourage them to make their safety checks and compliance checks with our group. Seems to keep everyone happy that we like having contact with CO and encourage patrol in our area. We know that they can't be there all the time and handle everything as it comes in just due to lack of numbers. As far as the state management of game and wildlife goes, I am not even close to qualified to comment on that stuff. There are people making way more money than I that make those determinations. If for some reason their decisions are not working for you then I'd suggest calling them and offering an alternate solution. Complaints get you nowhere especially when dealing in politics. But noting a problem and offering a solution doesn't come across as griping, but rather you come across as a concerned citizen with a possible solution to an area specific problem.

Remember that CO's have a different kind of enforcement than your standard cop. EVERYONE they deal with during season carries a gun.

Straight shootin, and FISH ON boys

And because they cannot always run to the location, please get as much information as you can when you call in a tip. License number, description of truck, exact location, number of people involved, etc. The DNR will have a lot more to work with when they get a chance to follow up on the TIP.
