Lighting for portable

I cut small slits in the reflectex corresponding with the Velcro straps that attach the cover to the poles. I disconnected all the Velcro straps and then slid the reflectex between the poles and cover. You then pull the Velcro straps through all the slits and reattach them to the poles. I would suggest doing a pre-fit so you can mark the pole locations on the reflectex with a permanent marker. Pull the reflectex out and lay it on the floor and then measure and cut the slits. Also, you may want to reinforce each slit with a piece of duct tape on both sides, just to prevent any tearing.

I have a lighted disco ball that would look great in that shak. Although, I have no idea how long it would last on a vexilar battery. I also have a string of the clam LED RED lights if your interested, they don't put out any light at all but it will give your icehouse more of the "viper room" feel.

I attached it just like Metrojoe said. It's nice to have all the light at times to help me get the hooks out of the 6" perch I keep catching! The three rope lights come on with the switch but all the other lights have their own switches. When I put the push/pull light switch in I accidentally put it in so when the shack is collapsed it turns the lights off by pushing the switch down. I'd like to say I planned it that way but it was mearly a great accident.

I don't think a single 54 LED vs. two 15 LED makes much difference

Should you actually compare just the two sets ups for greater light, you would find a major difference.

LEDS cant be compared equal as they are not. The enclosure, chip, lens all play a great part in the intensity of the light, its illumination angle and such.

Just by logic if you have "twice" the illumination capacity in (1) enclosure then another equal in size and in the same test area, you undoubtedly will have greater light.

If the one light throws a larger angle area and has a magnified lens configuration like the back up light, then you are fighting not only less LED capability but its itensity as well.

Adding (1) 15 bulb LED fixture after another makes no sense

if (54) compared to (30) in your opinion makes no difference. Not to mention the hassle and lights everwhere that add up the same $$$ to get equal light to a (54) unit Maxxima.

As mentioned in earlier posts from others, these Maxxima lights throw a beam wall to wall. I can tie lines with it and can see through out the entire house very well.

With the windows covers down the light it throws outside allows you to see good outside the house as well.

I hate to say it but I got that fan at Walmart in the camping section. I was around $12 or so. It originally was designed to work on 6 D cell (9 volts) but I took the batteries out and wired in a two prong plug in and it now runs off of my space flasher battery. I don't know how much it draws but I did leave on my three rope lights and the fan on low overnight and the battery still had 12.1 volts in it after 14 hours. I think it works pretty well.

Exactly my point, it is not necessarily the number of LED's that determines how the house is illuminated. The two lights I installed light the fishing area but do not light the back of the tub unless I point them there. From your post I take it the Maxxima light illuminates the entire shack without adjustment, like a lantern hanging from the ceiling? Do you have pictures to post showing how bright it is?

A valid point is made in this topic, and that is choice.

Some like it like Las Vegas in there and others like just enough to barely see the work area, myself I prefer the brightness of a spot light when chaging or baiting a hook, but yet I find at times too much light will spook fish in Gin clear shallow water, I like to see what I'm doing, and then just reach up and direct the light so its not shining down the holes. The way I like to fish compared to the next guy is going to be different in most cases, a few of my close friends(after fishing with me) decided that one of my lights was plenty, and others thought they would like more, so the bottom line is what your personal preferance is, if you fish mainly stained water or for crappies, mega light, but when I'm after them clear shallow water, spooky walleye, I prefer it to be a little more dim, so I simply just move the light away from the holes, having a light that will fill my house from wall to wall and potentialy spook fish from me just simply will not work. All just a matter of preferance.

I can only speak for mine as I have in earlier posts.

But others have described the out put as well that have the same light

I have no pictures but it is set up just like the pics Deephole provided.

Mine sits above my head at the tubs edge and throws a rather intense lighted cone from the tubs edge, between my holes, and to the front door. Has a much wider angle degree because of it purpose then what most seem to be posting.

The actual light it provides crawls up the walls front, back & side. If a guy was to actualy put it on the front supports (faceing) you, it would be even better I would think but I dont like light directed towards me.

Mentioned earlier the design is to illuminate light for a truck driver to see the path behind the tractor at least eight feet and side to side when backing up !!

Mabe some of the others can jump in and better describe or explain they're thoughts.

My brothers (2) 45 LED ovals for a trailer or box are incredibly bright and give a clean white light to the entire house.

Captkev is right... This thread was offering up lighting options. Everyones needs and personal desires are different and each lighting system will or will not meet some or any of those needs. Some want light like a days sun, some want light to meet their fishing habits, portability, price & function. My permanent is getting these in it so I don't have to switch it out. (lol)

This thread opened alot of new good offerings to all and I think started a entire new direction to lighting.

When you got your 54 LED Maxxima, did it come with three wire leads? If so, did you figure out what the 3rd wire is for? I was expecting just a pos. and neg. wire.

You should have a black (-) a red (+) and a white, which is your ground. You need to connect the white to the black in order for the light to work since there is nothing else to ground to. I did this by using a snap connector that pushes a metal tab through both wires. I put this on pretty close to the plug end and then cut off the rest of the white wire. You can get these snap connectors where ever they sell trailer light stuff. Then just connect the black and red to thier proper posts.

Let me say again that these that these lights are the ticket. There are more money, but if you read through this post and one other that was stared about some other 24 LED lights you will see that nobody has had a problem with the Maxxima lights. Now that the season is almost over, start watching HSOList for them. They are really easy to install and I am getting 18-20 hours off one charge on a vex battery.

Barracuda, my light was already set up from my brother.

Looking at the back of the light you can see the three inputs for the plug labeled. Ground, Tail, & Stop/Turn.

I'm not sure but I would think the stop/turn is not needed.

Mine is all sealed in conduit and taped so I cant tell you which one is not used. Just hook up the ground to white and the + to tail and see what goes. smile.gif

If anyone would like to see my lights in action, I'm going to be fishing neer the wyoming area this saturday and sunday, I'll be driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Red with a Red topper... This one...

TRKwindbreak.jpg

If you see it, give me a Honk or see me on the lake, drop on by and take a look at the lights, or just B.S. for a while. I've never fished the area, but you might be able to narrow down my location by looking at this topic...

Hello,i not sure but i think the turn/stop circuit on the light will be a tad bit brighter than the tail/run circuit........just thinking out loud

Its not an option on the Maxxima lights. The plug on the pigtail fit right into the back of the light. There are three wire and you need to wire it just as I have posted above.

What would be cool is if a bunch of these different ideas could meet at one time and light up the lake to see each others ideas and how well they work, side by side, I'm happy with mine, I know they are not as bright as the Maxximas, but I know they are better than any of the rope lights I've seen, and other that some other homemade units that took 40 to 50 hours to set up, I like the fact that I didnt have to buy anything but the lights and some wire and connectors, it took about 30 min. and I was done. too simple.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
