Lighting for portable

To all that helped. Thanks. I used 2 pin connectors from a computer store. I put 3 lights on the left of my Otter, 9 on the right and 12 on the front wind brace. Turned them on at 9:00pm and at 8:am were still working. Enough light to read the fine print on a contract. WOW! If I have reason to do this again, I will pay closer attention to the mfg could have had it all, but all's well that ends well. Gonna try it this weekend. Will be nice to not have to "baby" the lanturn.

CaptKev,

The only way to find them that I found was to use this for a search: Bicycle 28-LED ROTATE BIKE HEADLAMP TORCH It just showed there were just 4 items as of 4a.m. I am not sure if these will be easier to get later or not. When I got mine you could "buy it now" but they seem to not be doing that anymore. It looked to me that the main company was selling them now instead of the one that was doing it before. Well good luck.

I'm still not sold on the idea of AA or AAA bateries, I still like 12 volt, if I had to buy batteries all the time, I'd be looking into how much money was going down the tubes. I'm still useing the origonal batt. that came with my Vex and I'm fishing the 5th season on it, and it still lasts for more hours than I can fish without a recharge.

I talked with the main LED light sales rep today and picked his brain for more info, this might shed some light on the old 1157 bulb idea (not the 1157LED's)...

He told me that one 1157 bulb draws 10amps, and the little 15 LED unit like I have draws 100 mili amps, I could run 10 15LED units like mine to draw the same amps as one 1157...

thats 150 Light Emitting Diodes to one 1157. you could light your garage with that many. shocked.gif

I think you where mislead captkev.

An 1157 bulb draws approximately 2 amps for the high (brake) side and approximately 1/2 an amp on the low(running/ tail light).

If they did draw 10 amps you would need 100 of your led lights to equal 10 amps at .100amp draw for each. 10 would only be a draw of 1 amp.

So now that we have the math thing straightened out, to equal the 2 amp draw of a standard 1157 bulb you would need 20 of the 1157 led bulbs (20 x .100amp = 2amps)

Airjer, THANK YOU FOR CLEARING THAT UP wink.gif Notes have been made and your input is greatley appreaciated, I'll be sure to throw this at the rep, do you have anymore of that knolage to add to this topic, I'm still getting questions like... How many watts do 15 LEDs put out? I'm not sure if they are in the same scale but I think they are trying to compare the light output to a bulb you would use around the house. can you help with that one please. confused.gif

Maybe what he was reading from was 1.0 and not 10...?

A more accurate rating of the light output is measured in lumens , but many manufacturers don't rate their bulbs. I don't know if they are hiding something or it's expensive or what but that is the only way to compare apples to apples when you are talking about light. Watts are a measurement of power consumed, not light output (V x I=W). I can have a lightbulb that consumes 100 watts with a very dark glass that would put out less light than another lamp consuming 10 watts with very high quality clear glass.

My point being don't get hung up on the watts, as electric heaters are also rated in watts and they don't put out much light either.

I suppose a guy could rate them yourself if you had a photographers light meter?

Thank you guys a bunch, I've tryed to track down a electrical engenier but have had no luck, I'd like to pick someones brain for awhile and realy learn a little more about this topic, I don't have time to go back to school right now, too busy working smirk.gif so if I can find someone who would like to enLIGHTen me on this topic great.

once again thank you all.

IF a guy could come up with a lightmeter you could conduct your own fairly accurate test. One light in a dark room, record the reading off the meter and repeat at the same distance with a different style light. A guy could even change the angle of the lights to get an overall reading. I believe most of the LED's are more of a spot rather than a flood, right?

Quick question on power for the Light ropes by USL, I know they state to run a vex battery(or similar) but what about a battery from a lawn tractor? I know they are heavier but would it give a longer life then the 48hrs or so that they claim on the package?

I don't think you would have any trouble running off a lawn mower batter / heck any 12v battery would work...

They may run longer... I believe a vex batter is 7 or 7.5 amp hours... find out how many amps the light draw, divide the amp hour capacity of the battery by that number and that'll give you the estimated run time of your lights...

Deephole--

Thanks for sharing your lighting solution. I installed the Maxxima #42450 in my Fish Trap Pro, and it works great! Once I had the parts, it took about 10 mintues to setup. It was a bit spendy, but worth the $ for the quality and ease of setup.

The lights Captkev has work great. I've got three of them in my 10'x18' hard house and they're are plenty bright. I'm running them off a 750amp implement battery. I also have the 1157 type lamps set up at each hole, set up on a homemade set up that allows me to swing them out of the way which also turns them off. Takes to long to explain for the time I have this morning. I can expound if someone is interested.

I bought the house used so I don't know the exact part# of the LED's but I'm headed there today and will check them out. You can also get 12volt track lighting that uses the 1157 type and similar lamp types at most electrical wholesale houses such as Viking Elec., MN Elec. Supply, etc. JUNO is one brand that I've used in the past. They are a little spendy but they give you many options as far as how long you want the track and how many fixtures you can put on them. The fixtures are small and you can usually get the replacement lamps at any auto supply store. Sorry I don't have better names and parts #. I'll try to look through the files and display them here if anyone is interested.

I'm off to try my new St.Croix rod on the Dead Sea right now!!

Biffer: My brother gave me ($50) complete, his Maxxima light and it does work great smile.gif Super idea and fast easy set up huh !!

He got two of the oval forty five led instead. Mounting each one on a pice of wood like 4" X 6" and put a clamp on the back of each one to snap on the poles above at any angle.

They were like wall clamps from Wally world that you use for like brooms or shovels. Just push the pole in to it.

He wants to switch back cause his is rather bright (lol)

with almost (100) leds burning.

Fishing is hot-

Do a search on HSOList motors. type in maxxima or LED back-up lights. You should find some. You can get them at your local Peterbilt dealer too. The dealer is where I got my flange kit. The set up is super fast and easy once you have all the parts. I have yet to use mine since I got it all set up, but hope to change that this weekend. They are kind of spendy, but if you can find them right on HSOList you can reduce the cost some.

Fishing is hot-

I bought my Maxxima light at the Peterbuilt dealer in S. St. Paul (same place as Deephole) -- I didn't want to shop around or wait for something on hsolist. I considered the smaller 45 LED oval light, but they were on backorder and were the same price. I spent $62 for the light, grommet, pigtail and mounting bracket. I picked up some lamp cord, 12V 7A battery, crimper kit w/ connectors and zip ties at Fleet Farm.

I brought Deephole's pictures with me to the dealer, and all the mechanics were gathering around offering advice and testing the light. They got a kick out of the idea.

fmc3,

did you get your "aquariam" lights set up? i am having trouble getting mine. apparently the payment adress hsolist had for the seller was incorrect, and my payment seems to be lost somewhere.

just trying to decide if its worth waiting or if i should tell the mto forget it and find an alternative.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
