Hyfax runners?

Bought mine for my Otter Lodge it was $50.00 at Gander a couple of years ago. I thought that was steep for a few strips of plastic. I heard someone bought standard hifax from Dennis Kirk and cut em off to size. Otter really gets you for accessories, $50-hifax $50-Tow Hitch $50-travel cover(Must if you tow w/Snowmobile) $70-per seat x2 and then I put a greentreat floor in my Otter sled about $25 for plywood and stainless bolts & nuts. Add it all up and you have small fortune into your portable, just so you can be mobile. confused.gif I maintain a permanant fishhouse on LOW as well so when the wind blows or its butt cold out I dont use my portable.

I've had a different experience with skis.

Last season I pulled my Trap II all over Shag and Burntside and various portages behind my sled with XC skis mounted under the Trap (youth skis are just the right length). It tracked perfectly. That being said, hyfax is still COMPLETELY the way to go if you can afford it. I wore out a pair of skis in less than one season, and hyfax will track great and wear far, far longer.

I don't know if Fisher Ed still has some hyfax runners, but I told him what I needed for length and width and paid about 1/2 the amount of the store-bought runners. I'm very pleased with them.

Fisher Ed, you out there?

I got some grain elevator lining (used) and cut it into 2" strips and put on my voyager last week. Hope this works as the price was right, FREE laugh.gif I couldn't believe how much my sled was wearing. I will post how it works later.

Hyfax are just about a must have for any type of tub style sled. Even if you don't care about the tracking aspect while pulling with a wheeler or a sled, they PROTECT the bottom of your fish house sled. Even pulling them over a few gravel rocks by hand will put some nice gouges in the bottom of sled. Hyfax takes 99% of the beating and if the ever wear out, just get a new set. Cheap insurance compared to the cost of a new sled.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to send me an email at ed j wendt at juno .com (no spaces) and I'll get back to you.

I'm with Fisher Ed on this one. My Trap II is eight years old, and the only reason it's still in the game is that I put something between the tub and the snow/ice/rocks/gravel. I'll have hyfax on it before long. Have been making do with skis, but they wear out too fast, so I'm going to hyfax. The tent has more than its share of stitching, stick-on patches and hot glue mends, but the tub is as strong as the day I bought it. grin.gif

P.S. -- Anybody got an old Trap II canvas tent in good shape they want to get rid of??? If not, I may have to break down and buy an OTTER! smirk.gif
