hanson
What are your goals for this upcoming hardwater season? We've got a month (maybe two) to go until the lakes are frozen. What do you wish to accomplish this winter?Usually, I have a huge list of goals and you can search the archives here at IceLeaders.com to find my posting history. This winter, I hope for 2 things.1) To share my love of the ice with friends.2) Catch another 20lb pike.I've been working on goal #1 for awhile now. I've got a few friends committed to trips to URL but I want to get other friends & coworkers out onto local metro lakes (Medicine Lk) and experience some ice fishing.Goal #2 may be difficult. Trophy pike fishing to me is like playing the lottery. You can position yourself best you can but it is ultimately up to luck as well as other factors to determine your success. 2 lakes I plan to concentrate on this winter are Devil's Lake, ND & Lake of the Woods. Both have trophy pike that are willing to bite. There are times of the year that improve your odds. After that, you wait for the man up high to trip a flag for you. Trophy tip-up pike fishing seams very simple but is very complex and detail oriented at the same time. I always say the little details will kill you if you don't pay attention to them and that is definitely the truth. This is no different from flathead cat fishing in the summer. You may wait an entire day for 1 fish to take your bait and you don't want any screw ups to occur at that moment. Hey! Been there. Done that many times now! I really, really don't want to make a mistake again. What are your goals for this winter?
Jeremy airjer W
I have two goals. 1. Get out on the ice. No brainer there! 2. Take my boys out with me. They just turned three and have just about mastered (as well as can be expected) the art of freshwater fishing. The third time out they where casting 10 - 15 feet with there snoopy poles and realing in there own fish. They also like to get the waxworms out of the container for me to put on the hook. I even had them lipping crappies for photo's. Ice fishing will be a whole new challenge for them and a bigger one for me luckily I have a half dozen consistant panfish lakes within 15 minutes of home. No trophies but lots of fun, and thats what its all about!!
hawkeye43
airjer, you will never forget the times you take your boys out icefishing. the first sunfish, them helping clean out holes (good-by dipper) and the time when he gets a walleye bigger than your personal best, Priceless. goodyy7
Well, my wife is due with our first Jan 28, so that puts a big halt in my ice fishing for a while. I plan to get out twice as much for early ice to make up for it though and have a mid/late februry trip planned to make up for it as well. Goals typcially are to introduce one more person to the ice, put one hour more on the ice than I did the year before, and fish at least 2 "new to me" bodies of water through the ice.goody

Animal
1. To return safely from all trips and not to read about another tragic ice related accident this year. 2. To have a great year at LOW and have good ice house nighbors again this year. 3. To finally figure out a fool proof lighting system for my portable that can take the rigors and pounding of being towed over the Canadian Trout Lakes. 4. Catch enough to say the fishing was awsome and eat just enough to feel full. 5. To finally fish the Manitou in southern Ontario. Three years in a row our trip got cancelled. 2003 - Cold Weather -40's; 2004 - Slush; 2005 - Resort closed due to owner's accident. 2006 - I hope so. Dietz - If you want to catch a laker, let me know and I'll shoot you an email on where to go for some awsome laker fishing.
