Days YOU would take off for the RUT?

Recommended Posts

Looks like I'll be able to pick and choose about 5 days off from work to hunt the rut. Am looking for some opinions - should I go with the typical first week to 10 days in Nov or later as the moon people predict around the 16th for things to start heating up?

speaking of the moon, i usually do better deer hunting during the new moon, that is Novenber 2nd. the second weekend gets you pretty close to the full moon (the 16th)I think the deer feed and run around at night if they can see. BUT it's not like Boone and Crocket want my face for thier HSOforum. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

In northern Minnesota I'd go with the first week of November, with southern MN I'd go end of October, I took a week to hunt bow hunt before the MN opener in Northern MN and it was dead, my cousin down by Iowa said the bucks were running crazy.

First week of November always has produced for me Cooter!! Nov 3rd actually has been a date I harvested three of my largest bucks. I will be off Oct 31 until Nov 9th... Hopefully another northern WI brute will find a home with his brothers in the other room... wink.gif

My choice is the week before gun hunting starts, I have Oct. 31 - Nov 4 blocked off this year. The bucks are cruising and I get to hunt before they get too riled up from the gun hunters. I'm also taking Nov 10/11 off, the rut will be really picking up and the deer have 'settled down' after the gun hunters weekend (in zone 4).

That's the good thing about Zone 4..4A is only two days long, quicker that the deer can settle back down for all the bowhunters. Then 4B is only 4 days. I plan on taking like 4 or five days right after Halloween off to hunt all day, then evening hunts until opener. Should be fun.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I ended up taking Nov 2&3 off as well as Nov 8-10. Also have the weekends off so hopefully I'll hit it right a couple of them days. Will be zone T hunting near Drummond end of Oct and am sure like always I'll see bucks galore.

Oh and another thing... during this time... I have had most of my success around the 2PM time frame... The reason I really like the first part of Nov is the fact the bucks are really cruising, ready for action, and hoping to find at least one hot to trot doe. I always try to sit all day as the deer can come at anytime!!!
