Dotch
OK BB, I'll donate. Got up this AM and did chores and listened to the goose music as they fed in the field where the neighbors chopped their silage. Think the geese were picking at the manure they spread but I digress. Checked the garden to see how hard it froze; killed the tomatoes, pumpkins and squash. Fortunately we picked as many as we could before the first frost. Kicked up three roosters that had been feeding on the leftover sweet corn. Picked apples for an hour or so, all the while enjoying the bright sunshine and crisp autumn air. Bluebirds, house finches, blue jays and goldfinches were on the wires, at the feeders and in the trees adding to the beauty of the morning. The sheep got donations as the squirrels and blackbirds had ruined about a bushel of apples. Put out more rat bait in the bait boxes as the vermin are really starting to move in. Picked off several sparrows with the BB gun in the barn. Tossed some tomatoes over the fence that had expired and hauled the apples up to the house where I can make some pies this afternoon. My guess is the pie will be followed by a nap. Need to clean out a friend's spare wagon as he might need it for corn harvest. Should mow the lawn hopefully for the last time and then it will be time to do chores again. Time to be careful when feeding the brood ewes as I can end up in a heap if I get between Mr. Ram and a ewe in estrus.
Bobby Bass
Keeping to my word of not watching football I took the daughter out fishing this afternoon. Very very slow. just 2 bass and lost another two but the one that I lost was a hawg, had her on for about 3 seconds before she turn away from me and just snaped my 10# line like it was nothing.. Made a note that we would return to the same dock and fish it before we left the lake. That was at about 2:30 by 5:30 I was back on that side of the lake ready to do battle, but while I was gone the home owner had pulled up his dock!! Now is that luck or what O well we fished a little while till I could not feel my thumb and called it a day. Didn't make it a mile from the landing when my daughter started to razz me.. Going to be a long winter..... Water temp 56 down from 65 just 5 days ago on the same lake. Rain really cooled it off..
Captain B.R.K
What can I add here I was out at the land I bow/gun hunt each season and worked on clearing out some trees overhanging the trails. Came across one trail that had a scrap line that went about 30 yards. Each 10 yrds there was another scrape. Planning on hunting this weekend and hoping for some results! ZapBranigan
Hey I am always one to donate. If anyone didn't get out Sunday I feel for them what a beautiful day. Tom Linderholm
Bobby Bass- Its only a matter of time before we meet up on the ice, keep the posts/threads coming as they make great reading material. My posts have been slim in nature latetly as work has been pure He!!. Leaves will fall soon and then it is time to catch up on all the forgotten tasks of the summer while I made time for the almighty! (FISHING) Duckslayer-Its great to see that you still put out thoughts for those that have moved on. I am sorry to hear your loss. You always will have the memories to look back upon, and my hopes that they will be many. Family is everything and its those little traits that the young ones pick up that will carry the legacy for ever. Nearly 3am has anyone seen my pillow....ohh leave watchers, they have all hit the ground I am ready for some 40 hour weeks again...
polarsusd81
Cheffrey - I was up there last weekend and got some nice shots of some of the leaves up on the North Shore. Had a blast up there. I guess I dropped my two cents so now I am done for a while. I can't wait for first ice. Tom
Bobby Bass
I'm out here working in the yard, got the boat batteries on the charger and even after a very slow day on the water yesterday I am thinking about hitching up and heading out. I know the days are getting shorter and I don't think it is going to get much warmer but.... I got apple's to pick and the greenhouse needs to get cleaned out and there are enough leaves down so I should run the mower across. Might be time to put some of the deck stuff away but you know the wind ain't to bad out and I could get a few hours in before the wife gets home... do ya think she would know if I went fishin? heheheh
rosspj59
I am thinking about changing professions to be a weather person. What a job, be off on the wind speeds by 15mph and still get paid. I am not talking about a day in advance either. Saturday night was wet and wild with the nice southeast wind we had on mille lacs. The predicted wind speed of 5 mph was a little off . Luckily we still caught some fish. Fishing is only going to get better, I think, maybe the catching too.
rundrave
well its monday, I am at work.I guess I can compare this week, "South Dakota pheasant opener is this weekend the 15th", to the fishing opener in Minnesota. My mind will be somewhere else this whole week, as I write code and process data, thinking of flushing roosters, and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.Aww I feel better already, I am now 15 seconds closer to noon this saturdy. Please keep donating, as it will help the week go by a little faster, and keep my productivity that much lower. As for marketing this site, I no longer live in the state, but read just about every section on here several times a day, reading about my old favorite lakes, that I am now 250 miles away from. Eric Wettschreck
I'll add a couple pennies to the kitty. This weekend was my duck opener and although we didn't shoot a limit (I never do) we sure had a good time. Saw plenty of birds, dog crapped in the boat, kid fell in the water, neighbor shot a decoy and a duck at the same time, I reached out and grabbed a teal that swam right past me, I discovered a hole in my boat, I missed geese that were like 2 inches away and dropped one at 35 yards.....typical duck hunting fun. New Yankee
Hilarious Boiler! Sounds like one of my outings I borrowed a friends pressure washer this Saturday. Got a little over zealous under the hood of the truck and shorted the wiper motor out, took it to a door jamb on the house and peeled the paint off, so Sunday was wiper motor replacement and paint... Did get my grill cleaned up good, but thumbs aren't made to withstand 2500 PSI - cut a good gash when my aim holding a part to wash was off. Never said I was a bright one
ZOKU
My two cents...Bought a really cool SureFire flashlight today from Gander Mountain. Wanted one for awhile and finally got it. Just a G2 Nitrolon model but it's five times brighter than a 4-D cell flashlight. i.e., MagLites are dump. Saying this thing is bright would be an enormous understatement. Umm... yeah, I'm very impressed. Best purchase in a long time. Also picked up a really cool Gerber pocket knife. And I don't hafta be back at work 'til Wednesday at 4 p.m.! woo hoo!!! icehousebob
I've been trying to organize the moving of the rest of my oldest son's posessions. Before being sent to Afghanistan, he had set up a great blacksmith and heavy timber carpentry shop. His wife blindsided him with a surprise divorce demand. She met a California guy on the internet and wants to divorce him, sell the house, and move to California before he gets home. Never trust redheads. And the base closings cost him his civilian job, so he gets to come home to no wife, no home, and no job. I,m guessing this isn't the best contribution to theis list. IFallsRon
CHECK YOUR NUT!We spent a week at Itasca in July. When disconnecting the trailer at the campsite after a 150-mile drive, I discovered that the nut and cotter key had come off my hitch ball. Don't have a clue how it happened.CHECK YOU NUT!
