So much for the White Sox Collapse

Commanche Jim

Recommended Posts

Well, looks like the "Inevitable" White Sox collapse, as Walkdrave, Rubberneck, Out on Mars, Buzzkill,RailroadBridge, Lots of Bad Luck,Pork Sticka, Vikings Schkwank, and the rest of you predicted, so confidently, will not happen.

Boys, we are going to the playoffs.............and I'll tell you what..........if our pitching keeps up, we will have a World Series Champion in Chicago for the first time since 1917.

I have 4 playoff tickets thru out the playoffs, and I will enjoy a rarely seen event in Chicago. I really hope they clinch it on our home field, especially if we clinch it against our beloved Twins!!!!!!!

The brief Twins run is over. Watch out for our White Sox for the next 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't they still collapse in the playoffs?? I mean they had the best record in baseball for a long time, doesn't that make you feel like anything short of a WS victory would be a collapse?? I do. What do you think Mad Jim?

I will be the 1st to say congrats on the Sox winning the division, they should go far into the playoff's if their pitching holds true. I will actually be at the Sox game tomorrow night against the Angels, sitting sec 117 row 3.

Whats even better is the pitching match-up, Buehrle vs Washburn. Cant wait to see this stadium.

Why do you say that, Rubberneck? I didn't know you were an A's fan? I thought you were a Twins fan...

Buzzkill, I don't think by not getting to the World Series would be a collapse. It's the team who wins a 5 game or a 7 game series that moves on. Losing 4 games to 3 against another team in the playoffs is not a collapse. How many wild card teams have won the world series recently? Does that mean all the divisional winners collapsed? No.

Many of you were counting on the Sox REGULAR SEASON COLLAPSE. It never came. Would losing 4 straight after winning the first 3 games (Red Sox/Yankees) be a collapse? Yes.

You're too cocky. No wonder why noone likes sox fans. Didn't hear you in here the last few years when the Twins were handing the Sox their punkers.

The Sox may have it this year, congrats. smirk.gif

I'm still counting on them as one and done in the playoffs though.

Hey Jim,

I have already come out and said to stick a fork in the twins, and said let the smack begin and I/we would take our licks.

Also I just need to add one last comment, there is a certain word I am looking for here....MODEST, yeah modesty look it up in the dictionary.

Heres an analogy for you:

CNYTim roots for the cardinals, they have the best record in baseball, and he simply states how they played, in a professional manner, and moves on, no mud slinging at all. I truely respect him for that, and when he comes on and posts how the cards did, great baseball talk. Not to mention he actually uses this site for what it was intended for...fishing and the outdoors.

You on the other hand, come on here, call us all out indvidually and brag about season tickets this, we beat you that, look at you now, blah blah blah. You know its great to an extent but give me a break. Show some class. How often do you come on this site and actually ofter some fishing advice, or even share some photos of the many fish you have caught.

Again congrats to the sox for winning the central division. Your right it is a rarely seen event, sox in the playoffs, somebody alert the press. To bad your still not the favorite team in chicago, regardless of how good the sox are. I will be looking forward to next season, but will be looking forward to a sox loss in playoffs, considering they cant beat anyone in the AL west.

Rundrave,

It's payback time. All the smack talk we took earlier is coming back at ya.

And if you go to the Cass Lake site, I have contributed quite a bit over the years.

And by the way, thanks for the congrats on winning the division.......And thanks for looking forward to the Sox losing! That's Class. In fact, every year the Twins have won the division, I have rooted for them in the playoffs. Why? Because it makes our division look good, and it makes the other teams look good.

And I have shared fishing pics. Unfortunately, I struggle with posting them.

Ok then, but you don't have to make 7 posts to say it! crazy.gif

I'm not gonna go back and look at all the posts, but I would be willing to bet noone started talking collapse until after you and Windy were mouthing off in the first place.

Go back and look, Willy.........I can't speak for Windy, but you won't see any start-up bashing from me (until recently)

Go back to the July and June posts:

One Word (Sledneck)

Pretty Quiet on the Board (Sledneck)

Ha Ha Freddie (Sledneck)

Hey Windy is this the real Pale Hose? (fishpepin)

John Garlands bubble just burst (Buzzsaw)

Sox's Carl Everett embarrasses Self, Baseball again (pierbridge)

White Sox' Ron Kittle speaks out on Bonds (buzzsaw)

The 2005 Chicago White Sox will...(we'll call it the league of losers!....Buzzsaw)

sox about on a 3 game skid, garland gets lit up! (rundrave)

Steroids and the White Sox (fishyguy)

Devil Rays looking for Brooms for White Sox (codydog)

These were posts created to egg us on, correct? Digs on the White Sox, forcing Sox fans to defend their team.

Now in my defense, I only started 1 confrontational post prior to the end of August. (Six and a half out, and Cleveland Knocking on the door June 19) That was it. We've been in 1st place since the first day of the season.

Go back and look more, but I did most of the work for you. This is all in fun, and I no faults with any of you. I argue with my best friends about baseball something fierce. One of my best friends is a Cub fan, and we have a $10 per game bet with each other, and it gets ugly.

But if you guys want to dish it out, be prepared to get it thrown back at ya.

I'm with your there Jim. Though going on history I predicted a second half collapse by the Sox back in June. Unfortunately as a Twins fan it didn't happen. But come playoff time I will be rooting for the Division rep. Heck I even root for the Vikings when ever they aren't playing the Pack.

Not so much time for fishing with the new restaurant eh?

And I respectfully disagree that the Sox have not collapsed they have shown they are just a mediocre team at best and will be the worst overall team in the playoffs "both leagues" and in my opinion they have ZERO chance to win their first world series since 1624. grin.gif

The only way for the Sox to quiet the anti-Sox fans is to win it all. They will get the chance at least-while my NSide Cubbies are on winter break.

As to the Sox chances, well, one of the papers (that also owns the Cubs) had an article in it today about some new type of ranking that the writer made up - it listed the A's first and the Sox were 3rd or 4th I think. The Sox pitchers better come through for them to have a chance. But that is true of all the playoff teams I guess.

As to the second favorite team in Chicago: I guess you can only look at attendance figures. The 1st-pl-all-year Sox are drawing about 13,000 against KC this week. Not exactly a big matchup, but only 13k for a 1st pl team? Ozzie says he looks around and wonders why there are so many empty blue seats? Not much support, that's why. And my theory on why goes like this: a boring team in a less than inviting neighborhood with some poor broadcasters-not to mention players with names like Pablo, Timo, Juan, Tadahito....but I digress. What I mean is a relative bunch of no-names who always find somebody diff to come through - and play pretty steady. I'm sure they'll fill the seats for the playoff games though. But I bet they won't have many Sox fans in the seats for the road games like the Cubbies did a few yrs ago.

Geno,

I got to take you to the wood shed on the attendance debate. The Sox Marketing people had targeted this series as a clunker for months. You have to consider the fact that school has just started and the record of the Royals into the mix. I remember back in the late 60's and early 70's when your Cubbies played during the day and after school was back in session the attendance dropped as well. Those were the "lean" years for the Cubbies. When Jack Brickhouse was "hey hey" ing and you could call the box office the day of the game and ask them when the game started and they would say, "When can you get here?" (sorry, it's an old one). The Cubbies have been the sole benifactors of the hype of "boys town" and they have rode that horse for 20 years now. Granted, the neighborhood around "The Cell" is nothing compared to "boys town" but you got to admit that the quality of play is second to none. You guys are getting cheated for your 100 million dollar payroll but the "mind numbed, Kool-Aid drinking" Wrigley fans will keep coming, year after year like the swallows returning to Capistrano. My self, if I go to a restaurant and don't like the my meal, I don't go back. Cubs fans will eat whatever is shoveled to them and beg for more...go figure!

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Windy

Here we go again: Windy, windy, very windy.

You did note the "lean" years for the Cubs and that was a good one about "when can you get here". But once again, I think you are mixing oil and vinegar or is it the old if you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullsh**!

First of all I acknowledged it was KC-not a big draw. Second of all, these are night games not day games. Third of all, the past is no indication of the present. Fourth, I do admit that winning is better than losing but it doesn't take away from the boredom of those "no-names" on the Sox or their poor announcers. Fifth, what kind of lousy marketing geniuses do they have in the Sox office (you don't work there do you)? 20 yrs and still 2nd banana? Despite how many bad seasons the Cubs have had? I guess the Sox marketing geniuses forgot to tell Ozzie not to expect any more fans to show up no matter who they play or what place they are in because smart people know enough not to pay for poor entertainment. Winning doesn't equate with entertaining.

So, we can leave the woodshed now. Hope your ego isn't too bruised. And thanks for confirming the Sox are Chicago's second favorite team. Nothing wrong with being for the winning team-no matter how few of you there are. Or being for the losing team despite their higher payroll. Ours are underachieving and yours are over-wait till next year, the Cubbie mantra you know.

the twins just don't have it this year, but the sox better watch out for them indians. I think its down to like 7 games, and they have 6 head to head games yet to be played. Its not likely to happen, but the sox could miss the playoffs all together, if the indians win the division, it will be the darned yanks or oakland as the wildcard.

the wildcard team has won the last 3 world series.

Well Knoppers, with the Sox being swept (Windy - did you get a good deal on those brooms you sold in LA?), and Cleveland with a huge lead on the Twins as I write, looks like you might be onto something there.

Windy, Supertramp is warming up a little "Just Another Nervous Wreck" for you.

Jim, maybe you better get rid of those playoff tix while you can still make a profit-but you'll have to find a taker from out of town I'm afraid.

This could be a bigger collapse than the Cubs pulled in '69-that would really help the Sox pr dept-NOT!

I think the biggest collapse was in 1964 and the Phillies had 6.5 game lead on the Cards with 12 games to go when the Phillies lost 10 straight and won there last 2 games but it was to late the damage was done. Tim Kurkjian (ESPN) said it will happen about once every century so you guys wanting to see the Palo's collapse... probably are not going to see this happen although the Indians could make things interesting. I'm pulling for the Indians to make it as a wild card cause they remind me of the way the game should be played there hard nosed young players that can pitch and rake, not overpriced like the sludge filled Yankees. Whoopie!!! Randy Johnson was lights out?? Where the heck was that all year? Kevin Brown should split his over paid salary and give Aaron Small and Chacon the money, they worked for it. Watching the Red Sox and Yankees series this weekend was an education on how to play chitty defense, pathetic.
