If I were you I'd do it. If you read up on it, it says even if you move out of state they will honor it!! If someone has kids it is a really good deal. I Just bought one and have no regrets. Mike

Too bad a person still has to go get a new copy of their license each year. It seems like it would make more sense if they'd just send you a license that was a hard plastic like your driver's license, or make a notation on your d.l. when you'd get it renewed. Guess that'd be too simple though. Then if you lost it, charge $15 for a new one, instead of $3 or whatever it is now.

Make it much simpler, I'd think.

You do get a hard plastic license. I bought a sports license the year they came out, and it is no big deal to renew. I do it over the internet and pay the "convenience fee", which is semi-convenient.

They did send me this silly coin. What is a person supposed to do with that?

I'm not so sure it's a great buy. The fishing season could be shortened to one week and limit might go to zero. Or you might have to buy stamps for each species plus your license. Or posibly an annual fee for using the public landings. Time will tell. I will buy each year.

I do agree though that it would be nice if it was like a drivers license or something. But I can live with renewing it every year.

It should be noted that there is no cost for renewing unless you do it online. And since you probably have to buy bait, tackle, or gas before you go fishing the first time each year it only takes a minute to renew (again - for free!). I bought a lifetime sportsman license the first year they were offered and love it. I also bought my 3 year old son the same last year. The comments about the stamps are true, but I heard rumblings in the DNR news a while back that they were thinking of increasing license costs and eliminating state stamps. We'll see. If nothing else, I hope my commitment to a lifetime license shows up in a statistic on hunting/fishing political survey as to what is important to Minnesotans.

Huskiesplayer - it will most likely be paid off long before you're 38 if you figure the increases in fees every few years.

I bought one when I turned 51 and have no regrets.

My only concern is the state mismanaging the up front money, but my guess is it may not be a very popular option so as to give them that opportunity.

FYI: I just called the DNR and I was concerned about the 3 week waiting period for getting a license (as I need it now for fishing) and they said you can come to their office and they can issue the license right there on the spot!

I'm buying a sports license! I'm 26 and at $613 it will be paid for in 20 years at the current prices. And if it even goes up one dollar a year, it will be paid off in around 17 years, even sooner at the $2 a year increase we have seen for the past couple of years.
