Accessorize Your Boat

Mad Lake Bomber

Question

Just wondering what you guys consider "must haves" or even "nice to haves" on a walleye boat? You can omit the obvious options like GPS, depth finders, and trolling motors unless there is something the majority doesn't know. Just bought a boat and looking for some accessories to make it more useful.

Thanks!

1. Good rod holders. I picked up the Scotty's and they are holding up well.

2. A decent anchor. I don't use anchors all that often so I have one that stores small.

3. Leech and minnow tamer bags.

4. Install extra lights, get a headlamp, and a spotlight for night fishing.

5. On board charger.

6. Hook removers needle nose pliers.

7. Marine band radio (if you fish big lakes or with freinds that have them on their boats.)

8. Rulers for measuring fish.

9. Drift sock.

10. Planer boards.

Besides whats listed I would toss in GOOD seats, markers, extendable net, tossable PFD and plenty of water to drink. The older I get the more I find I need plenty of water and less pop or beer. Not that I drink in the boat.

Also a Marine Band Radio is a great plus if the cell battery dies or falls over. More and More I carry my digital camera. So many options and no running to develope film.

I think I'll just add some support to preveously mentioned items. I absolutely love my minnow/leech tamer. I'd say it's an absolute must have. No more pulling up the rope of the flow troll, just lift the cover to the livewell and your golden. The heaviest anchor you can get thats not too bad of an overkill. I went with a 28lb in the sailboat spike style for my 18 footer. It has held everytime even on Mille Lacs. I'd get 75 ft+ of rope to ensure you have enough slack to let out when the waves are really bad. The lakemaster chip is also the best $100 I've ever spent. I've expanded my fishing so much since I got it, that it's really hard for me to fish without it.
