Anyone else try those toads that different companies are making now like zoom and sizmic(sp?)

I tried them for a little bit last week up north and I really liked them. Those little legs sure do give off a good wake. Then give them a pause and bam! It was fun grin.gif

Well, I used this hot tip to get myself embarrased by the bass tonight. Was having difficulty finding bass, catching a pike and a couple panfish before finding the bass in a shallow bay(sounds familiar if you read my last post). They were feeding on the surface, so I busted out the scum frog and went to work, And boy was it frustrating. I am usually pretty successful using the frogs, but it was off tonight. I had a bunch of different fish blow up on it, and about half of them hit a second or third time. It took them 2 or 3 to finally get the thing, and when I set the hook I had my frog flying back at me. Didn't manage to land one fish, and with time escaping me I decided to try and pick up a few gills for a meal, so I slowly made my way back to the access fishing a bobber and worm and ended up catching my only two bass using that. One dink, and one about 15". As I said, I think the fish were just trying to embarrass me! But the definitley were liking the scum frog.

Frogs - Yup. Many years ago there was a bait called

'Plummers Super-frog'. Had a foam rubber body & a

weedless hook, flat rubber legs. Looked pretty dumb,

but the bass absolutely loved it - it always lands

with a soft 'plotch' noise, just like you would expect

a real frog to sound like. And the bass thought so, too.

Never had such a fun bait at dusk - too bad they

discontinued it. When I found out they were doing so,

I went and bought 2 dozen of 'em, and now only have about

3 left. Northerns like them too at times, I guess.

Still, a great bait in its' day!

Are frogs ever used in deeper water over weeds? Like 6-10ft? On just close to shore with pads, docks, etc... I've never used one and would like to try... but the lake I like to fish has no pad areas.. only docks.

Yes you can use frogs over deep weeds. I've had bass come up from a deep weed edge to hit them. I like using the popper scum frogs for the deeper water cause they give off more sound and the bass can find them easier.

No pads and deep water off docks? sounds like Zara Spook country to me..Was on the St Louis river shore fishing and took the woods back to the truck last night, Frogs everywhere, grass to high to catch any or maybe it is because I don't bend down so low any more....

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
