I heard from the rumor mills that Shimano is going to stop making the Curados. People are saying that the replacement will have a new name and be about $30-$40 more. Some folks say that they are stocking up on what remaining Curados they can find, just in case they don't like the new one. Has anyone else heard this? Deitz?

HT- I have not heard this. I'll do some digging and find out for you. If you think about it, they have not redesigned the curado for as long as I can remember. Maybe time for a face lift?.. then again, why mess with the #1 selling baitcaster?

I'll dig and get back to you.

I would doubt they would change them, to good of a reputation and they would never sell as many at a higher price point. $120 for a Curado is stretching it for most guys. Like Deitz said, best selling baitcaster and to many tournament fisherman using them to quit making them.

I hope not.. I just bought one three weeks ago. My first baitcasting reel, I think it is a really great reel. So smooth and quiet. Thinking about getting another one. Great reel for newbie.

Nothing yet capt.. I have sent quite a few e-mails and have had nothing in return yet... maybe because this is the down time in the fishing industry!.. they are all done with the show season... and this is their vacation time. I really hope this is just a nasty rumor!

seriuosly, I wouldn't be surprised if they did change the Curado. They have changed their whole line of spinning reels, the chronarchs, and calais. I can honestly say that I would cry myself to sleep for a couple months. I own over a dozen and never have broken one. If they do change them, i doubt they would increase the price. They already have a super-free for 149.99 and a 100 size for 129.99

They changed their Calcuttas and they were one of the highest regarded reels among muskie fisherman. They would be about the exact same as the Curados are for bass guys, and they still change them.

It was unveiled yesterday at the icast show. Here's a review:

Curado D: Before the show word had already gotten out that Shimano would be redoing a number of their most popular baitcasters, including the top selling Curado. What most anglers didn't know is what these new reels would look like. The Curado D has been the go to mainstream reel for countless anglers for nearly 15 years, and this major redesign was quite an undertaking. The Curado D will please anglers that are fans of the Chronarch MG/Scorpion. Two sizes will be available a 100 and 101 (left hand retrieve), and a 200. Left handed reels in the 200 size will be available in spring 06. The 100 series reels are identical in profile to the Chronarch50Mg, while the 200D is longer.

The most exciting thing about the new Curado is HEG (High Efficiency Gearing), a system that uses much larger gears to provide more leverage and fish moving power. Here's where it gets really interesting for power fisherman. The implementation of HEG enabled Shimano to offer one model, the CU201DHSV (Spring 06') with a blistering fast 7.0:1 gear ratio that pulls in 30-inches of line per crank, and still have the power to pull a fish out of heavy cover. The new Curado D's now offer premium level performance, and will bear a new price of $199.99 per copy.

Well, I got it from the top... The Old Curado is officially discontinued... The new one will have a higher price tag but will share its name with the old one.. the Curado D... Many of you will notice that your curado is a curado 200B... the B only stands for it being the second version A being #1.. b..ect.. i am assuming they made a C that they never put on the market.. For those with the Stradic spinning reels they are 2500FH... F is for front drag.. H is for the version they are on..the 8th stradic they have made...

So, the Curado D does have a higher pricetag, but all will be Super Free technology, have the HEG gears, and the ARB barings...

Sorry to all that loved the 200B.... The new is comming!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
