jigging pole

What is a good jigging pole that I can buy that is under $100. I now have a lightning rod, and it had worked pretty good for a cheap rod. I am maybe looking at Fenwick. What is the difference between IM6 IM7 and IM8 graphite fibers?

IM6-7-8 is the grade of graphite. The higher the number better the rod. Fenwick makes a nice rod, but I think you get more for your money if you go with a gander mountain guide series (Ultima). Just put both rods in your hand and you can see and feel the difference? St Croix premier is a nice rod in that price range. Good luck

How much does the GM series run? Also, What type of reel would you suggest putting on it? I have been kind of fond of Shimano, and I was looking at the new sidestab with the rear drag. Would this be an alright reel to put on?

Boy, that Lightning Rod is a great rod for the money. I have several rods in different lengths and they work fantastic! If I was going to try and upgrade from the Lightning Rod I would go to a Fenwick HMG 6'6" Medium one peice. These rods go for around 100.00 and are made from Carbon Veil and they have the Concept guides that will last a long time. If you want a little cheaper rod then check out the HMX rods.

Good Luck,

Corey Bechtold

My favorite rod for the money would have to be the IM8 Tournament Rod in Scheels. It bears the scheels name, but it is a St. Croix Premier blank. I believe I picked it up for $79.99.

I bought the rod 2 years ago. At that time the Scheels guy told me it was a St.Croix. They may gave changed to Hagen blanks since then. If they did, that would be okay. Hagen is an outstanding rod company. They are based out of Mitchell, SD.

It is my understanding that hagen's builds rods for Scheel's. And the rods are made out of either St.Croix or G. Loomis blanks.

In my opinion Hagen's rods are excellent rods for the money. I do prefer the higher end St. Croixs for their lifetime warranty.

Yep... I get rods from Hagens all the time. They used to make their rods out of a Loomis blank and then they switched over to St.Croix. I dont know exactly why, but they did.

So I do know Scheel's gets some of their rods from Hagens. Not all of them, only a few certain kinds. They normally have a "Made in the USA" tag on them.

They(Scheels/Hagens) also support lifetime warranty on all of them rods.

I love Fenwicks myself. I'm not sure how many I have 6-8. I have probably 3 HMG's & 3 HMX's & a couple of older ones. I like the both & think they feel about the same the HMG, just has a better warranty. They stand behind they're products. I've had several rods replaced over the years. I do think my next rod maybe a St. Croix or one of those from Scheels just to try them, but I don't anticipate the need or the budget allowing for a new rod anytime soon.

I got two IM8's from gander this year and they feel just the same as St Croix rods. The best part is they were 49.99. I also think there reels are just as good as any other one and they olny cost 20-40 bucks. Just cant beat it for the price grin.gif. I have been using there spin cast equipment for 4 years now and its not going to change with as good as the stuff is getting.
