Evinrude E-tech

Fishinglund

Question

Hello all!

I have recently heard a lot about these motors, I am curious if anybody has any experience...good or bad... with these motors? I am considering the 75HP model in a tiller. I have a lund 1675 Explorer with a 60hp 4-STROKE EFI Mercury, and the motor is great but with the boat fully loaded it is a lot for the 60HP to handle. (with a 12 pitch I get between 5800-6000 RPMs) The 75HP four strokes are a lot heavier than the 60HP so that is why I have been looking at the E-tech.

Thanks for any replies!

Hey fishinglund, I had a 2004 75hp E-tech and it was extremely awesome for me. It is really quite for a 2 stoke and never had any problems with it. Also when you want to winterize it all you have to do is push this lever or button and it winterizes itself, very convenient. I never knew about that until i was talking with a boat dealer guy that told me after i got rid of my boat. They are easy on gas and oil. I would recomend getting one well worth the money to buy one. Good luck with your new boat motor purchase.

Personally, if I were to buy a new boat this would be the motor on the back! Faster, lighter, hardly any maintenance, and excellent fuel economy? Speaks for itself to me. Check out the performance charts on their HSOforum.

I haven't heard one bad thing about these motors, but they are relatively new on the market.

I totally agree, I saw some data on how much faster and more effecient/quiet they are than other motors and was very surprised.

I may get a new boat next year and I will be getting an e-tec.

i too am convinced. how are they priced compared to normal 2 strokes and 4 strokes??

also, a buddy of mine called evinrude to ask when they'll have the 115-140ish h.p.'s available and they told him about 8 months.

Count me in the same boat. It would definitely be my motor of choice. Great fuel efficience, cleaner than a 4 stroke, very little maintainence, quite and great power. Plus it's runs down to 500 rpms for trolling.

I guess I will reserve judgment on the E-Tec for now.

These are all of the same talking points we heard about the Johnson/Evinrude Ficht outboards which of course put OMC into bankruptcy and left a sour taste in many Ficht owners mouths.

Maybe Bombardier "who now owns OMC" has come up with something here I personally will not be burned again by believing hype or propaganda.

One thing to remember is that the E-Tec, according to every article / review that I've read does not use any portion of the FICHT injection system.... the E-Tec is supposedly a "clean sheet" design.

Bombardier has made that very clear in all of the reviews I've read.

It's new, but everything I've heard sounds like it'll be a strong performer.

Personally, I'll take a engine that gets a bath with oil.

These engines that are suppose to burn oil, but burn hardly any worry me. Ficht, Opti have not impressed me in the past. Maybe they have it all worked out, but my money is in a 4 stroke.

My parents just bought a new pontoon with a 50hp e-tec. They will have it in 3 weeks. I can let ya know more once it's in the lake, but sounds like a great engine from the research I have done.

Had never heard about it until their search for a new pontoon a month or two ago.

Well these motors have been around for awhile already. This is the first year with full production of pretty nuch a full line. They've been available for at least 2 years. I'm still waiting to hear a bad report from anyone who's been using one. Although I know what you mean about wait and see. I hate to buy stuff when it first comes out. Let someone else deal with the early bugs. I just haven't heard of any significant ones with this motor yet. Time will tell.
