Article by Greg Wilczynski

If you haven't had a chance to read the article on the FM homepage by Greg Wilczynski then I highly recommend it. Greg has really mastered the art of finesse fishing for panfish and he has developed a darn nice technique for icing more fish...

Greg Wilczynski's Article

I've had the privilege of meeting and fishing with Greg and he is truly a genuine guy. He's worked hard at making fishing easier and he has done just that.

Good Fishin,

Matt, Talk about deja vu. I'm reading Greg's article while enjoying a coffee with my wife at a coffee shop here in Brainerd. Part way thru the article I comment to Pat (my wife) "hey Pat here's an article on spring bobbers, that's what I started using a couple of weeeks back to catch those blue gills we've been eating".

Well, as I continue reading the article some of his comments prompt me to move the curser down to the end of the article. Lo and behold I've got three of the St. Croix Legend Rod/spring bobber combos he's developed! They have proven to be everything Greg states. I've been a dentist for 35 years and consider my "tactile" touch to be be quite good. Well, detecting subtle bluegill bites with my normally acute tactile touch didn't hold a candle to bite detection with the Legend Rod/spring bobber combination. Thank for bringing the article to the top of the forum.

This was a great article. I have yet to buy one but I think I will have to run out and try and find one of these. I know that many times this year I tried detecting the bite with my finger on the line but still missed fish. If I can't find any now I will definitely get my hands on one of these rods next winter. grin.gifgrin.gif

Greg was at the Backwater Brawl with Bob Horn ( or vice versa, whatever) and he was a treat to meet. He did little fishing that I saw, but was very active in meeting with everyone. As Matt has said, he is a genuine product. And his rods are state of the art!

In addition to the article here on FM, there is a nice article on Greg and the legend rod in the Rochester Post-Bulletin tonight including a pic that i beleive was taken at last months backwater brawl. If I can find a link to the story online i will add it to this post.

If this is the paper that I think it is, the guy came out onto the ice and started asking Greg a couple of questions. We were prefishing for the Brawl. The guy took pictures of Greg and Greg gave him a demo on how to fish the rod. It was just a fluke that we were there. smile.gif

I was able to meet greg first hand today. man what a great experience, being able to meet him to see his technique and use this rod was a wonderful oppurtunity. i know that when the stores open sat. morning, i will definitely be going to find one if not two of these rods. the quality and sensitivity of the rod/spring bobber are outstanding! the article had me sold but after using this rod firsthand, there's no way i won't have one in my arsenal. grin.gif

hey, bhorn-nice to have met you today as well.

Greg was up shooting some film for promotional material. We hit a few different lakes and ended up with some nice footage. Crappies, perch, and bluegills, as well as some largemouth and pike.

ivegottabite is right, Greg is a class act, and one of the best finesse fisherman I've ever seen. He would set his Vexilar to the side and spank us on numbers using only the Legend Ice Rod, it was amazing.

Here are some pics from the trip...

Greg also has a good sense of humor...

I also had the pleasure of fishing with Greg along with Bob Horn and Mike McNett here on Chequamegon Bay today... They all had the pleasure of catching a few fish and getting some good footage.... The St. Croix Legend rod along with it's spring bobber is a fantastic tool for any ice fishermans arsenal.. All three of these guys are class acts and good sticks out on the ice... It was a pleasure to share such a windy day with all of them on the big lake...

So to all of those who have seen these rod set-ups and thought they were a gimick, trust me they will increase your hook up precentages out there on the ice.. they are the real deal in all around ice applications....

I don't believe I am stepping on any toes here as I have not seen the St Croix Legend rods advertised anyplace on FM. I just saw three of these rods with the spring bobber at a local sporting goods store. I am buying one and the other two are for sale for $29.95 + tax. These are new in the round plastic package. One Lite and one Med Lite. If anyone is interested.....? $30 + $1.80 + actual shipping. Not making a penny on this.

That was fast. Both gone to local ND boys. If they don't buy them by noon tomorrow, I would again offer them. Hint store starts with letter "S"

Thought I would post a few pics of fish that were caught during Greg Bob and Mike's visit...

All of these fish and others were caught on the St. Croix Legend spring bobber rod rigged with light line and a good reel to match... Their rigs performed flawlessly to land these hard fighting fish...

Been using spring bobbers as long as I've been ice fishing. Wouldn't be without them. All year I've been kicking guys butts all around me that fish with just a spinning combo and their finger for strike detection. For some reason I've experienced a particularly light bite this winter and if it weren't for the springy I'd have caught half as many fish.
