Rod holder recommendations

92python

Question

I am looking to get new rod holders on my boat. Currently use the top mount Berkley models. They work OK most of the time but the plastic gets brittle when it gets cold (I use my boat 9 or 10 months out of the year) and I end up breaking the bases. They also mess up the cork handles of the rods quite a bit.

I don't want flush mounts and would like to stick with top mounts if possible. Something strong that I can adjust vertically and horizontally.

Any recommendations?

I use Scotty or Cabelas rod holders and they are tough.

The quick draw models are good for spinning rods and the HT 360's are good holders for rods with a thick but section like cat rods or bait casters. Both models can be adjusted like the Berkely models you have but are much more durable. They also don't get brittle in the cold. I use my River Pro from March into January in some years.

I have a couple that are over 5 years old on my boat now. They have had some big cats hanging on them! grin.gif

I have to agree with Dennis. I have tried all the different brands as I wanted to find what worked for my first boat. The Scotty/Cabelas are built to last. They do cost a bit more but I found out why and have been replacing the others. They just seem to have come across the right variations and options. You need to get what works best for you but for me it's Scotty/Cabelas.

I installed side rails from Cabelas and use Scotty's rail mounted rob holders. They are adjustable in all directions now and work great. I was too scared to screw mount the holders on my brand new Crestliner without knowing exactly where I wanted them. The rails solved that problem and a few others. Great place to attach the bait bucket...

Ill second the Rams. They work great even on big Salmon in the Big Water. Running dipsey divers really puts a lot of tork on your holders and I havent had one fail me yet.

I also run flush mounts but have friends who have them on the rails of their Rangers and they all like them.

I really like the track system I have on the inside edge of my Explorer. You can mount your holders in that track and not have to drill any holes. Plus they can go anywhere on your boat. Didnt even know they had this till after I bought the boat with the flush mounts. I think the new Mr. Pike has the track system and would assume more Lunds have it.

I'm with Northlander RAM has a great mount,I have 2 with the Ram mount and 4 that mount on the rails of my boat. the ones that mount on the rails work great for trolling because they sit up a little higher than most models and are very tough. They also come with alifetime warranty.
