Use a bungie tie-down... Loop it trough the latern handle and then attach the hooks to one of your middle support tubbing hanging directly above you... Just watch your head when standing up in a hurry! Lots of other 'Jimmy' Rigs possible, this is just the one that I use, I am sure there is probably something out on the market you could use as a hanger as well.

Take care!

Get some of those cheap carabiners from Walmart (aluminum). I had to thread one of them onto the top rod (fairly easy to do - even while setup). Clip a 2nd carabiner to the 1st. I also have 2 large split rings chained together on my lantern.

Just clip the top split ring to the bottom carabiner (it is not going to slide off).

As long as your lantern isnt within a couple inches of your house your ok. I hang mine with a thick cotton rope and it hangs about 8" from the roof of my house and its always been ok. Those FishBrights are awesome for putting your lantern light down by your holes and so you can tie knots.

If your interested check them out at www.soderbloom.com

Is it just me that does this .....?

I always carry 2 or 3 pieces of heavy insulated copper wire in my bucket or gear bag. 3 or 4 feet long each. You'd be surprised how many things it can be used for.

-hanging a lantern from

-tieing support poles together at the joint when it's really windy and the d^%$ things keep coming apart and landing on my head crazy.gif

-tieing the portable to the wheeler to keep it from blowing away when you need to get out

-I even spliced a couple together once and ran from by buddys vex battery, to my vex after my battery went dead.(forgot to recharge it the night before) frown.gif We actually ran both vexilars for 3 more hours after that off his battery.

The list goes on...... it ties and holds without knots, comes undone easily, and is quickly adjusted to any length.

You can roll it up and throw it in your bucket and it doesn't take up any space. ....and if you lose it ..... get another piece, it's cheap !

I recently saw all the other posts on this lantern/portable lighting subject and went to the super bright leds HSOforum and bought the 12 inch led bar and couldn't be happier with it. I encased it in clear plastic tubing and put the black plastic clips on each end and hang it from the top conduit bar in the portable. When I first tested it, I ran it off of a 5 year old vex battery that was pretty much junk, but the led went for 16 hours with absolutely no dimming at all. The 12" bar is plenty to light up the portable.

I like to use my lantern for heat on these warmer days, so i think I will stay away from the LED, I looked at those too but I don't think that is possible right now

Okay< Just ordered my fish bright lantern cover and some snakor anchors for my voyager......man with my 20 pound tank in the sled, I don't know I will be able to use my voyager as a 1 man now, it's just gonna weigh to much to pick up and sling into the back of my truck.........or I just need to stop being such a wimp.

Northlander, I put in a plug for you as well, since I have a feeling your posts have contributed to their sales as well.

Maybe they should hire you as a saleman on the side

Picksbigwagon thank you for the kind words. If you look on his HSOforum you will see that I "Endorce" Jays FishBrights. Wich just means I like the product and help him try to get the good word out. Jay is a great guy and helps me out with new props, prop repair and lower unit type stuff in the summers. He also makes great docks and does canvas repair. He is a jack of all trades type. Wich you know if you have been on his site. www.soderbloom.com

Again thanks for the kind words I apreciate it greatly!

I added another crossmember and then drill a small hole in in to put a metal shower curtain ring [like some one else mentioned] through it lantern snaps secured and its on the angle of the roof more over the holes. and yes northlander I do have fish brites and love them.

I keep a heavy piece of wire in my Otter. It is similar in diameter to metal cyclone fencing. Put a hook on each end, one for the lantern and one for the cross member and you're done. Sometimes I have thawed out a few adult beverages by hanging them this was in a ziploc bag.

I myself don't think it is necessary to drill a hole. Just snap the curtain ring on a crossmember and that way you can reposition as needed. If you need more space between your lantern and the tent, add another ring.
