Favre-ofobia

Until I started reading this football forum I had absolutely no idea how much Favre bothers the Viking fans. Its just not natural for one man to influence so many this way. Its a Favre-ofobia for sure. They rant a rave about how he is washed up and should retire. I would think if he is that bad and over the hill they would want him around for a long, long time. Don'tcha think?? The funny thing is he is going to go down as probably the best QB that ever played. Maybe that's what they can't stand.

Judging by his playoff performance when we ended your season I hope he keeps playing for years to come!

Best ever??? PLEASE!!!!!! We've trashed that stupid idea on here many times.

By the way, do you not notice how you Pack fans foam at the mouth over Moss????? Pot...meet Kettle, you'll note its black too!!!!!! smirk.gif

Everyone has there own criterias when determining best ever at certain position and given the different eras of play it is very difficult to do. I do agree that he is ONE of the greatest to have ever played the position, but I would not completely disagree with someone who says he IS the greatest QB to ever play the game as I don't think its a far fetched statement. When all is said and done and Favre does in fact retire and you compare his career numbers, etc with other QB's I think a very solid argument COULD be made to say that Favre is the greatest ever to play the game at QB.

On the Moss note, I think a lot of things he does gets blown way out of proportion by the media and becomes a bigger issue than it has to be. Unfortunately, Moss's history has influenced it. Even though I am a Packer fan first, I live in MN, I do follow the Vikings and like to see them win(other than when they play the Packers of course) and I think it would be a mistake for the Vikings to trade away Moss. Personally, I hope he stays.

Down to Earth,

You are correct, everyone has their own criteria. He is in the discussion I just don't think he is there at the end of the discussion.

As far as Farveophobia goes...For me it is not a fear, hate or distaste for the man himself, it is a hate and distaste for the a$$ kissing media and fans of his. Example...playoff game 2004 vs. Vikes, Farve takes a silly, obvious illegal pass penalty instead of diving for the first down at a critical juncture of the game. He laughs and the announcers talk about how much fun he has playing the game. Any other QB they would have discussed poor decision making, lack of desire or care. In my case that is why I cringe when I hear his name. I hate listening to Madden, Theisman, et al, wetting themselves at his presence on the field. Great player, great warrior, great leader in his day but he has been treated and worshipped at a level that has never been seen in sports except maybe Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods. He is not on a level with those three.

My thoughts anyways. No intention of taking away from his career.

Could you imagine what they would have said if Moss had thrown an ileagal pass and then laughed it off?

I agree, its not a phobia of Favra, its the fact we are so sick of hearing all these anouncers gush all over every time he plays. Sure he's great, sure he has fun playing the game, but he has been coddled by the media more than anyone should. Greatest of all time? Not even close.

if the vikings would have been smart enough to trade for favre like the packers did their fans would have him the greatest qb by now. but they don't have him, they're bitter and until he's gone they'll always be bitter.

instead they're trading for hershal walker! nice move...

Lets see....

At the time of the trade, walker was one of the best backs in football. He was not used in the way he should have been, hence is poor performance as a Viking.

GB traded for Favra out of desperation and he turned out to be what he is...a total stroke of luck on GB's part.

We're not bitter, especially when he throws a game away for us like he did last month!!

Who cares, if we all lived in the past we'd still all be riding buggies and using a willow branch and twine string to catch fish too, what has he done for you lately? I admit he was awesome in his prime, so was Marino, Montana, Elway, Young and the list goes on. You all can't stop talking about him because you're scared as hell about what the future holds. Too funny!

He's done!!

He forces so much that it must just frustrate his coaches who probably have a hard time telling him not to do that.

The media needs to find a new darling... I suspect it will be Tom Brady since he's a winner, multiple super bowl champ, has a super model girlfriend to bounce around, went to a big time university (Michigan), never says or does anything to get in trouble, I hate to say this part but he's white... he's got to be the next poster boy for the NFL. Buh Bye favre.

P.S. The Packers are such a great organization, heck they just put Majik man Majowski in their hall of fame... [PoorWordUsage]???

Good call on Brady, but I think Manning will at least give him some competition, even though he can't beat the Patriots.

As you pointed out the media always needs some one like this. In football the past 10+ years it has been Favre, just like it was Jordan for a while in basketball and I think now it will be James.

Otto,

Why do you participate in these discussions? It seems you will believe what you want and we couldn't ever convince you otherwise. Good discussions go like this: you talk, I listen and respond, you listen and respond, etc... So the Vikes blew the Walker trade, the Pack drafted Mandarich. The Pack picked up Farve for a draft choice, the Vikes picked up Chris Carter for $100. Good and bad moves are made everyday. As always you make a point about Pack superiority, somebody points out the Pack has a failure in their history and the cirle begins until the ever present "At least we won the Super Bowl" comes into play.

Don't forget MN-Underwood and GB-Buckley.

I agree in that Packer fans use the Super Bowl "Trump" card way too often. Most likely when they can't think of anything else. If your having a Super Bowl discussion/debate then go ahead use it, but if not then leave it out of the picture.

I guess we go back in history with these discussions also. I was referring to this thread and if you look at the point you made your statement the worst anyone had said about Farve was they did not believe he was the best ever. It may not be everyones belief but certainly a understandable one. I believe Tom Herman and I were in fact complimentary of number 4. I may have taken issue with his treatment by the media on one particular play but I don't believe that is ripping on him. I know both sides do it and we all fall into the trap but it gets old after a while and this one started out above that. Sorry if I was too strong with my response but it just doesn't ever seem to get across that we do not have a inferiority complex, jealousy, or subconcious desire to be Pack fans, despite the whole traumatic 1961 theory of yours that makes us all wonder how the State of Minnesota even survived after that.

Farve is a toothless, inbred, Mississippian hick. He is NOT one of the best QB's ever. PERIOD. There are ATLEAST 10-15 QB's that are/were better then that Drunkin' Hunyuck. Packer fans love him and that is understandable, He's their QB, but some of you(not all of you) viking fans out there should be ashamed of yourselves for giving that pill popping drugie so much respect. HES FROM THE SOUTH!!!!!!

I thought they were pretty good, also. For those that did not see them they went like this:

First billboard: Mooning the Packer Fans $10,000

Second billboard: Squirting the ref with a water bottle $25,000

Third billboard: Moss without a Super Bowl ring Priceless

Good humor but it kind of does prove the earlier point by lawdog, which was, I quote: By the way, do you not notice how you Pack fans foam at the mouth over Moss????? Pot...meet Kettle, you'll note its black too!!!!!!

Well that clears things up. Your problem with Favre isn't that he plays for the Packers its that he's from the South. Do you have the same feelings for the Southerners playing for the Vikes? You know I think the Civil War ended quite some time ago.

Here are a few things about Brett Favre. I like you to give me the 10-15 other QB's you would put ahead of Favre.

Career Passing Yards: #3 all time

Career Passing Attempts: #3 all time

Career Completions: #2 all time

Career TD Passes: #2 all time

Career Wins: #3 all time

Consecutive Games Started: #7 all time (regardless of pos.)

#1 all time QB's

Consecutive Games with a TD Pass: #2 all time

- Most seasons with at least 30 TD passes

- 1st QB in NFL History to have 10 consecutive 3000+ passing yards in a season

- 3 straight NFL MVP awards

- 1 Super Bowl Win

- I believe he holds the NFC record for most TD passes in a season at 39.

The "hes from the south" comment is sarcasm. Along with most of the rest of my post. The reson I dont like him is he play's for the packers. IMO... The Packers have never had a good player on thier team. I do kinda like Javon walker though... he helped me in my Fantasy league this year.

in no particular order...

Montana

Elway

Kelly

Brady

Cullpepper

Young

Bradshaw

Marino

Tark

Aikman

Mcnabb

Cunningham

Manning x2(NOT the younger brother)

There are some old timers that also deserve to be on this list, but Im tired today and in the time that I am writing this post they are slipping my mind.

Farve would be some where in the 20-25 rank.

IMO

Big Island,

I will not be ashamed for respecting the accomplishments of a great player. I can hope for Farve to fall on his face every Sunday because I want the Purple to have more success than the Pack, but that does not mean I need to be ashamed for applauding his accomplishments regardless of where he is from. Culpepper, Campbell, Chavous, Davis, Dorsey, Spence Johnson, Mixon, Moore, Moss, Nattiel, Newman, Offord, Owens, Robinson, Scott, D. Thomas, Moe Williams, Brian Williams, K. Williams, K. Irvin are all from the south and all have their teeth. In fact one of them is from Mississippi and 10 I didn't mention went to school in the south. I have a feeling our Purple would be in trouble, and so would our Gophers if not for players from the south. I will take with teeth, without or drunk if they win games. Tommy Kramer was the biggest drunk southener to ever play football but he won some games for us.
