buzzsaw
One more thing.....................Despite the Vikings best efforts to completely tank the season, the Purple Warriors have made good on Tice's 3 year plan to return to the playoffs. No matter if we "backed in" as many are calling it; look each Packer fan dead in the eye and ask, "What? Why, you showed us the way last year. Thank you very much."Okay enough of me, somebody else's turn.
JIvers
I read today in Bob Sansevere's column that Mike Tice cancelled outdoor practice for the Vikings today, "because there was no point in practicing on a frozen field", even though the Vikings will be playing at Lambeau this coming Sunday. Tice does hope to get the Vikings outside a "couple times" this week before they go to Green Bay. I will not give my own thoughts on this matter, as I think the facts stand for themselves. Icerookie
Hey fellas........heres a possibility - the Vike's get up on the pack by 10 - 14 points early...take the crowd out - the pack is already playing "not to lose"....the pressure mounts for the pack...I mean, they're supposed to win...they already beat the vikes twice (barely) and they're favorites to win this one....meanwhile, the vikes play "all out" football cause they have nothing to lose...and the vikes win going away.....like the lottery says......"it could happen"
Stratosman
I heard a portion of a Tice press conference tonight and Tice actually said after watching tapes of the last few games he thinks that the offense should shoulder the blame for the losses rather than the defense. What? What planet is this guy from? and that statement pretty much proves to me that he will do nothing in the offseason to improve the defense the way it should be, I mean, blame the offense, does he just not want to talk about how bad the defense really is, heck, the last two packer games were lost because of lack of crunch time defense, who wants to guess the outcome of Sunday's game? Just not a big fan of this clown.
tyler97
Then there was Randy Moss on the news badmouthin' Tice, and even saying "I may do it again, you never know!" when asked if he would walk off the field again. Players like this need to be traded if you want a good team. Sorry to say, the Vikes WILL be true to form and WILL lose on Sunday.GO PACK!
buzzsaw
A little history for you guys.....Over the last 40 years, the Minnesota Vikings have consistently been at the top of their division. During this same period, only the Dallas Cowboys have made more playoff appearances. In addition, only four teams have played in more Super Bowls than Minnesota, who participated in Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX, and XI.Perhaps no team in history ever had a more spectacular debut than the Vikings. During the franchises first game on September 17, 1961, rookie Fran Tarketon came off the bench to toss 4 touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Vikings to a 37-13 victory over the Chicago Bears. 25 years later in 1986, Fran Tarketon became the first Viking player to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The success of the Vikings over the next two decades always will be highlighted by the image of the stone-faced Grant on the sidelines of the frozen field at old Metropolitan Stadium. In only their second year under Grant, the Vikings began a stretch of 11 division titles in 13 years. They won the NFL championship in 1969 and NFC titles in 1973, 1974 and 1976. He first retired in 1983 but came back for a year in 1985 before making his retirement permanent. Grant's 168-108-5 record makes him the eighth winningest coach of all time. pikehunter
Eyehunter, The way your post is written, I think you might be slightly misled. There's a little more to it than what you stated.Tice said he didn't want to practice on a frozed field, and rightly so. There's no point to it. NO football fields are frozen when you play on them anymore. Lambeau has a heating mechanism under the grass that keeps the field at a steady temp.Tice wanted to practice outside, but only AFTER having the field thawed. Vikings higher ups didn't want to spend the cash on it, so they stayed largely inside. Tice should be blamed for alot of stuff, but not this one. JIvers
Maybe there is no point to practicing on a literally frozen field...but there sure as heck is a point to practicing out of doors when you have a playoff game at Lambeau in January. I doubt very much if a couple of practices outside this week will have the Vikings ready to play four quarters outside in Green Bay. That is only one of many reasons I give the Vikings little hope tomorrow. For the record, if the Vikings do pull off an upset tomorrow, it will be because Ahman Green loses a couple of fumbles, and/or Favre puts up two or three stupid passes that the Vikings are able to take advantage of. If the Packers play reasonably mistake-free football tomorrow, I just can't see any way Tice's band of poorly coached underachievers and gutless wonders can win under these conditions, and it really burns my butt to say that, especially when the Vikings are playing the Packers. buzzsaw
It was the great setup!! The Vikes back into the playoffs... get swept in their season series against the cheese wiz, Randy Moss comes up short against Washington... yup everybody is picking the packers in a blowout right (except Dan Marino) you see marino knew that the great setup was in play and that the Vikes were setting up the rocket scientists in GB up for a VERY disapointing loss... how could the high flying packers who were winners of 9 of the last 11 games possibly lose, let alone get spanked like a red headed stepchild on the hallowed grounds of Lambeau field to a team that was 3-7 in their last 10 games?? I guess the pre-game Reggie White ceremony helped the wrong team??!! Maybe Brett Favre was forshadowing his quiting since thats what he did down by the goal line when he didn't lunge forward ( Elway tried to teach him in SB against packers).. instead he sorta sprinted across the line of scrimmage and tossed the ball at his receiver knowing he was past the line of scrimmage!! I'm sure he has had to tweek his retirement speech since I'm sure he didn't dream it would all end so badly! P.S. Favre is way past his prime, you packer fans should really come to grips with this fact! If you look at the great QB's and what they do, you will see a huge difference. yeah, yeah deny it because your a packer fan and thats what packer fans do.. or admit it and show some dignity. Did I mention the score I predicted earlier on this thread??? NICE!!
96trigger
Buzzsaw, I read your post predicting the score last week, right on man. It doesn't get any better than that. The Packer fans should be licking their wounds. All week I have been hearing about how much Moss sucks and how bad the Vikes are. The Vikings just outplayed the Packers. Once again, it was the Packers who self destructed. The Packers need to seriously start looking for a good young quarterback to be an understudy to Favre. Last year, Favres last pass of the season was a wounded duck that was picked off. Lets also remember the embarassing 4th and 20+ yards. I am now sure what these Packers fans are talking about when last year it was the Pack who embarassed the NFC. Had any other quarterback in the league made a bone head play like flipping the ball to a receiver in end zone after crossing the line of scrimmage, they would have been crucified. Yet it was hilarious because it was Brett Favre. That right there was one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen. He could have at least slid, if not dove into the end zone. Moss does a mock moon and everyone is a critic. Randy Moss's attitude was greatly improved this year, he is still an immature kid, maybe when he is Thirty he will be a legitimate leader. MJR
John Kerry was campaining in WI and was talking about how the bad the packers were playing over in Lambert Field. What a game!!! Best game the vikes have played all year and beating the 1967, 1968 and 1996 Super Bowl champions just makes it that much sweeter. Or wait I guess packer fans are really the only ones who care about that and I am sure that is about the only thing they can say after a whooping like that to end the season. This is the kind of team I think a lot of us thought we had to begin the season but they just didn't play like it when it didn't matter. The packer fans keep telling everyone how classy the team and the fans are but every packer game I have seen I really havn't seen it. For instance......It started early, during the moment of "silence" for Reggie White at the beginning of the game, it sure was loud. That is far from classy. All of the signs saying how bad the vikes and moss are instead of signs rooting for your team. That is not classy.Bubba Franks one the most often claimed to be classy packers, down by 14 or 21 scores a td and gets up breakdancing. That is not classy, all other teams do it but the pack claim they are better than that. Your not.Al Harris not jawing at moss after every play was classy but it was only because Harris knew he was severly outclassed by Moss.I loved Moss wiping his rear on the goalpost! That was classic. The only thing I was dissapointed in was I didn't hear any booing. Oh well I am sure to hear plenty of that next year from the "Classiest org in football" when they start playing again. If we play Philly like we did this weekend we are going to do to philly what philly did to the pack. nolte
First, I'd like to congratulate the vikes on their big win. I will have to agree there seems to be a little more posting going on now with the vikes winning one. I had a gut feeling the Pack was gonna stumble they were about due to mess up. You can't have two teams that closely matched and expect to sweep three games. A coach once told me to be humble when you lose and more humble when you win. Good rule to follow. You can't be at the top forever. Sorry to get in this thread late, Inet was down. Didn't want you guys to think I wasn't posting just cause we lost. MJR
My intention was not to gloat about the win, the vikings have had more seasons like the pack had this year than I would care to remember. Unless the vikes win the superbowl I do not think there is much for us to gloat about. I was disputing the cliams of the packer nation that they are so much classier than that of the vikings and all other teams. You can say it all you want but if the actions of your team and fans do not show it it just doesn't make sense.

MJR
I am not going to let it bother me.I did read my first long post and I was gloating, but that was the only post I believe I did it in.I picked the pack to beat the vikes by 10+ and I do not even want to guess how bad the Eagles should beat us by.But you never know. otto_man
tell ya what, if the vikes play like last week they have a good chance to win this weekend. no owens and they haven't really played in a month, the eagles might be ripe for the picking. fishyguy
The Vikes fans are excited. It was a completely unexpected win from a team that was in a free fall. Pack and Vikes fans have been going at it since 1961. I would think we would be allowed to continue that tradition. We have been hearing about your success in the Super Bowls for how many years? You would think we would be allowed a week. There may have been some statements that have stung over the last few days, but, overall, I don't think things have been over the top. muskybuck
MJR, I was just funning with you man. I like your enthusiasm. There is nothing in this football forum that should be taken too serious. I did not think the pack could win that game and after the first series I knew they wouldn't. The pack have been a hurting unit since the super bowl year. There is no way I would ever take them serious either.
