mistermom
Over the last couple of days I have been doing some angling in my father-in-law's spear shack. What a hoot! (Yes. There is no spear in the house while I do this. I'm being legal.) Watching the fish come in and investigate or just slam a lure is FUN! I've caught a bass, a bunch of northerns, and a 6 lb walleye. Also missed a lot of fish too. But I got some good ideas watching the fish react to things. The chubby darter has been a real good lure for me. But i'm thinking I need to put some bigger trebles on it because of missed strikes. Also the reactions fish have to how a minnow is hooked or a color you're using is very interesting. I'm definetly going to do some more of this type of fishing!mm
psegriz
It is very interesting and can be very helpful in learning. That is how I started icin is through a spearhole. One downfall ya need clear water and daylight.
Mark Christianson
Spear house fishing is the cats meow for sure. Its nice when someone else has the spear house, and takes care of that big ole hole.
Sasquatch
For different reactions see what happens with various amounts of noise like bumps & thumps. Watch what happens with a radio on the floor, bench or suspended.
stick
I've always wanted to try this, but aren't you limited to a 12" hole for traditional angling?
NINETOE
You can angle in a spear house, however, you cannot have any spear gear in the house while you fish. Your either spearing or fishing.
Uncle Grump
This weekend, one of my BIL's was telling me about a spear house they had seen that was 8x8'. The spear hole was 4x8'.You could almost troll in that hummer.....UG
fishing41
I've fished from spear houses many many times. It's just one more reason I like to use a 10" auger. Sometimes I'll drill 2 or 3 connected holes so I have a better view!
Duffer
i thought i remember reading in the dnr book that you were not alowd to fish while spearing.
mistermom
Hey Psegriz!Yep! There isn't a whole lot of advantage when you can't see. You can still keep fishing, however. You just need to keep the light in the house low to avoid spookage.mm
psegriz
DufferNo you can't spear and angle at the same time. If your spear is out side you can then angle through your same spearhole. To who it was that asked, I believe that it's any hole over 12" needs to be marked while not in use. To keep people from driving into or walking into etc.
